1. Automatic log-out, in what context? Account expiry? Password expiry? Activation? Inactive? something else? 2. You need to edit "C:\boot.ini" for this purpose.
-
hehe... good heads-up! Knew of it, but did not use it till now, so now I will use it.
-
Or look in winlogon.exe... And I got to say here, that any changes you make and save would not be used. Because of the SystemFileProtection, and restore features of XP.
-
You can install Service Pack 2 directly. SP2 has all that SP1 contained, and more. But if you have an unlicensed winXP, the service packs will not install. Please read forum's rules -

I think you need to use an INI for that. But personally, I just copy out the installed folder, and copy it into the new install. And then apply the registry keys from the install. And create shortcuts in start-menu for it.

Hey, I'd say have atleast 3 partitions on each hard-disk. Other than that, just remember that drive-letter allotments are not done manually (*CAN* be done manually if you want, but why do you want to complicate things!). That's perfect. Try to do it that way.@Ctwizzy Ha ha... about the frequent re-formatting, I don't mean to say I do it for the entire HD. Its only the system-partition (C:) which gets re-formatted. So yeah, the benefit is that no junk is there to slow down the performance. Also, keep in mind that actually it ends up being very pain-less. I have about 3.5 GB of data in all, that is transferred to C: from CD during uA. That consists of OS, updates/hotfixes, drivers, applications, system tools, office suite, registry tweaks (for app/system/user settings), registration info (for giving serial key to every licensed app I use), and games. All of this is installed from a CD, and finishes within 28 minutes - I wake up, put the CD in and start install, and even before I've finished with morning coffee and break-fast, my PC is clean and back to "normal" top-speed. The key to remember, is that you should save any required files (documents, save-games, downloads, songs, programming projects) on D: or somewhere.... so that when your C: is formatted, you don't lose anything. Also, don't let Autopartition=1 & Repartition=1 in winnt.sif, because its easier if you do the partitioning atleast by yourself (you don't want to lose your data to a fickle setup that doesn't know the value of your files, do you?). Right. That's what it started out as, for me. Then, I thought why not do the same for my home comp as well, considering that it is such a quick process. What you need: 1. The uA guide 2. A weekend to start with reading and understanding and doing what the guide says. 3. Lot of patience, and politeness on the forums (which you can use to improve your uA install) 4. Some more time, every month or so, to update the CD with newer versions. 5. Willingness to use your knowledge to test your setups in VMware or VirtualPC. And yes, remember since we all are humans, we do have our obsessions and things we like to talk about... check out the rest of the MSFN forum, you might like it. And since humans do explode sometimes, don't mind it if somebody hate/flames you (which is a very rare occurrence in itself). That is all. And always remember, we all were newbies once. We are always willing to help you out, just post whatever you want help with! All the best, and happy new year!

How can this bug which crashes winamp be fixed? (steps to re-produce the crash) 1. Log in as a non-privileged user (normal user) 2. Run winamp (it doesn't matter if it is in classic/modern skin) 3. It clouds over, with the window decorations changing to winxp style. 4. AND THEN A CRASH (exits). Running it as a powerUser/Administrators doesn't show up that bug. Due to the above problem, winamp is next to useless, if you want to make it default player for non-Administrators. Background: I have been having this crash right since the days of winamp5 alphas, still happens even with <v5.08>. Winamp2/3 are perfectly fine, with no crashes. I'm getting really bugged-up with this crash problem. I've tested this bug on WinXP, on my PC and on others as well, with the same crash resulting everytime. Others who also have this problem, please post here, so that we can have a wider sampling of test environment. Possible cause: http://www.winamp.com/player/version_history.php I see that now the manifest has been embedded into the EXE itself. Could this have something to do with the winamp being forcibly being XP-skinned, and so crashing? Please post with your findings.... this bug is very annoying.

I already found out what controls this feature... Check out this topic and this topic.

Nice thinking Crispy! A brief characters list, of people seen in the Matrix - http://www.briandemilio.com/matrix.html Also, more things that have me wondering.... As things stand at the end of the 3rd part ("Revolutions"), there's a truce between humans and machines. Now let's say the machines don't have unlimited desires in the way humans do - that leaves the door open for a part4! I mean, humans in Zion would want control over other regions on earth that the machines presently control. Smith says: I liked the below quotes too. Morpheus to Neo: Now that reminds the words spoken by Cypher This one sounds eerily true. To the extent, that the more you think about it, the less probable it feels, that you are living in a real world. They can keep on improving the matrix, to reach the point where humans suffer as much within the matrix, as in the real world. Also, so many things happen all the time...... for which there seems no explanation other than that you're living in the matrix world. Yup, this movie series is the perfect topic to discuss among friends who are also fans of the movie. Its not an "alternate track" movie, its not an obsession.... it is an explanation of life itself... @Bi0haZarD GRRRR! About the web-site link, its not like I don't know to google.... I have read all I could find on the topic. In fact, I have a 400 MB RAR (saved-web-pages archive, all related to Matrix). But still there's a deep feeling of un-satisfiedness.... Its like the more you hear about it, the more you *WANT* to hear about it! (I know, it sounds crazy, but that's how it is)

works! I had to create a "menu" folder though, in my profile.

Nice discussion happening .... I just had 2 points to add here: 1. From what ctwizzy says, making a uA install is not really top priority. The only reason uA is relevant to him is because of the winnt.sif file being able to specify alternate locations for ProgFiles and Docs&Settings. So yeah, don't worry too much about uA stuff found on this site, just make all the partitions you want, install XP from the uA CD and enjoy! I am mainly seeing partition talk and such stuff here.... From what he says, windows install is very much a one-time occurrence (probably first-time!) on the PC. Whereas, uA installs are mainly of interest to people who pretty much keep re-formatting and installing the OS every second day. 2. Keep in mind, that having Docs&Settings on a different partition can complicate things. When you re-install windows, the old profiles *CANNOT* be used. Your MyDocuments, etc. would all be in the old profiles. Windows will leave alone E:\Documents and Settings\ctwizzy and instead when you create a new user called ctwizzy, that will be placed in E:\Documents and Settings\ctwizzy.000 So I recommend that you just keep all the required files elsewhere by yourself. For example, when you *KNOW* that some word documents in MyDocuments folder are needed, just go and put it in some folder (Eg: E:\importantDocu) yourself. Personally, I leave Docs&Settings folder on C: itself, and follow a policy of moving any required files to partitions other than <C:>. And any temporary files that I'm working with at the moment, I leave it on MyDocs or anywhere else on C: (like, some game which wasn't particularly nice and I'd be too lazy to uninstall it). So that way, when I next format C: (two days later ), no precious data is lost and all the junk is washed away. I hope I was able to put the above in words that make sense... If you have any questions, just ask! Cartoonite's doing a great job (longest posts I've seen)!

One clue there, is it has to be something to do with your OS files for sure. Your CDshell seems fine. Check if txtsetup.sif and setupldr.bin are edited properly. Also see if the boot-sector (pro1.dat) is edited properly, and whether CD idents are placed properly.

PartitionMagic and Acronis also have the features BootIT-NG has - in fact, more features than BOOTIT.

@Shotgun That's fantastic man! I'm an opera addict. Can you post your modified file here, and tell us what to do? Thanks

lol, yeah! And I do know some people who got saved because they saw it coming and ran in.

Right. The start menu folders won't be opened when installing silently before the explorer shell loads.

Hey un4given1 I don't mean to gloat, but yes, I do see that both of us try to help people, and ask them to search when its relevant! (pun intended... I'm referring to what you'd said about too many people responding with "search" instead of the answer) -
Just use nLite to strip out 16-bit support. Then, use only NTFS partitions. Then, use these regtweaks: ;----- ;----- These NTFS tweaks improve file system performance (Speed up NTFS) ;----- Note: these have been reported to cause non-compatibility with DOS/Win9x-based apps/games ;----- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem] "NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation"=dword:00000001 "NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate"=dword:00000001 "Win95TruncatedExtensions"=dword:00000001 "Win31FileSystem"=dword:00000000That's all. You now have system faster by 10% atleast, on average.

Next, I want to know what really is the position of the Oracle. Is she the mother of the matrix? Is she for real, acting out of free will? Or is she placed there at the behest of the architect? And then, at the final end (after Matrix Revolutions) - what's happening? Man and machine at peace? Or is it "for now" as the architect says? If its just a temporary truce, why did Neo/Trinity have to make such a big sacrifice? If there were 6 Neo's in all, have there been multiple Morpheus'es as well? And then, since we now know that Zion has been destroyed and re-built 6 times, I wonder *WHO* built it? Were the humans who started life there, literally at stone age level? If so, how is it that by 2251 AD, they have already 6 times reached the stage where they could think of confronting the power of the machines? (coz development of civilisation takes thousands of years atleast).
