Well, I guess I'd rather set some skin actually... Full mode looks okay as it is, but if you use it a lot its ugly - the nVidia skin for me!

ooh, I'm talking to Agent Smith? I don't want to remember nothing. Nothing. You understand? And I want to be rich. You know, someone important, like an actor.

Slipstreaming Windows Media Player 10
prathapml replied to Obliviator's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
The guide is still needed of course. Because most of us like to do things ourselves, and also non-English localized versions of XP will definitely not be able to use the uploaded file. -
@beaumar These consolidated threads that you speak of.... Why not make them yourself, and I make it a sticky? Most of the time we do keep trying to collect all the info in one place, but there just isn't enough time. Its easy to say, that we SHOULD do this and SHOULD do that, which will improve the experience for newcomers... But remember, we have jobs and real life to attend to, as well. If you'd like to contribute, then that's really nice.

It crashes regardless of what skin is on at that time. It doesn't stay up, actually. When winamp is run, after some time it stops responding, clouds over with XP-style look, and exits. This happens regardless of whether some song/video is playing or not, and regardless of which skin is chosen.

I think you don't need the OEM string in the key. This itself should work: /k "xxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx"

Well, don't believe the news papers. What THEY want is spice and heat to splash on front page. Fact is, earth is long overdue for many disasters - tsunami, earthquakes, volcanoes, ice-ages, global warming...... But it doesn't all happen at once! Humans have survived so many millennia, we'll continue to do so (that is if we don't decide to self-destruct with nukes ).

Acronis is easiest to use and has max features. (the fact that both partitionmagic and disk-director need a key to install, makes me say they are not very easy to install)
-
Now, this is just a clue... Try checking if your desired file has been compressed. Many authors do that so that people don't meddle with the resources, like you're trying to do. There's various methods of EXE compression, the most popular being UPX and ASpack compressors (google for more info on it). You can use the same to uncompress it, and then you can easily peek into it. Do post back with your results.

Instructions to log on as Default User. LOST!
prathapml replied to LevT's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
He means to say seen that info elsewhere on the net.... (and sadly google is not very economical with what it throws up) @LeVt Are you, by any chance, referring that WinPE logs you in as default user? -
Yes, in fact the instructions are applicable all the way from win2k (with no SP) to win2kSP4, and winXP/SP1/SP2, and Svr2k3.
-
That's a good addition... Thanks for sharing the info

Yep, I get what you mean. I'll put out a basic idea here, Alanoll knows this sort of a thing better.... The "CD" command will echo back the full path of where you are. There's some way to select only desired characters from the output (as in where you do "CD ~0,1" to select only the drive letter). So there has to be some way, to select only characters that start from the last position of slash, and pipe the output to a variable. After that, you can use that variable as your label (Eg: -l"%dirname%").

@DL Someone will customize the matrix story for me? ha ha.... thanks but I like it the way it is (so FANTASTICALLY murky and mysterious, Something for the mind to chew on!). How did neo control the machines even OUTSIDE the matrix? "The One"s power extends far beyond the matrix itself. That fundamental imbalance in the equation gives him power over "The Source" itself (think of it as a REAL source-code for a running program). Now you should remember that since the source is the root of the matrix itself, "the One" effectively has power over everything in the matrix. The machine city is also controlled by the source, therefore Neo has power over the machines. Now, you will recall that Neo had combined with Smith towards the end of the first part, so part of his power in some way gets "rubbed off" on Agent Smith (who's no longer an agent in later sequels, he's a virus himself! ). So that explains those 2 phenomena. Hmm.... that reminds me... I also want to hear more in detail about The Source and the architect. Those are still concepts I'm not clear about. What is The Source, really? And is the Architect a real being, or a program (like the agents) conjured by the matrix to interact with Neo? I also want to know why its so imperative for humans that the imbalance in the equation be balanced. (if you remember, the emergence of "The One" is because of that imbalance, and thereafter his acts lead to more and more instability in the virtual world). What is the need for the system to be purged/cleansed as far as humans are concerned? The instability caused by the imbalance and then the actions of the The One was a problem only to the Matrix. The humans (and Neo) could have just let the matrix and all its systems collapse, and thereafter those in Zion city could have gone and rescued/freed the people enslaved in the bionic capsules in Machine city. One thing I must say though. That I was sad the original lady who played "Oracle" died. (I'm referring to the fact that "the oracle" was played by some other lady in "Matrix Revolutions"). And hey SiMoNsAyS, you got me tempted.... Yes, there was that 10 DVD package I'd read about.... Yet to see what exactly is in them! I somehow think I was lucky. Because I saw all the relevant parts of the story at the right time and in the sequence the Wachowski brothers intended us to see it - so I knew enough to not be stupefied and got addicted enough to keep thinking about it all the time. Saw the first part ("The Matrix") in 2000, then saw Re-loaded and Revolutions in (2003 or 2004, I'm not sure). In between, I managed to read up on a lot of web-sites and matrix fan forums, then played "Enter The Matrix" (that game is supposed to show the story-line that happened between the 1st part and 2nd part, Niobe makes an appearance). Then, many web-pages had a vague description of what happens in "The Animatrix", read that too at around that time (before seeing "Reloaded"). On a side-note, I remember reading somewhere that the Wachowskis were carpenters or something.... That they managed to come up with something like this, speaks volumes about one of the below: a. Their intelligence, and the legendary "enabling environment" of the US (as in, today's trucker can become tomorrow's business magnate). ---OR--- b. Their laziness on the job, and therefore their fantasy trips (mentally) to find excuses for days-off or being late

How to silently install Yahoo Messenger 6
prathapml replied to MachManX's topic in Application Installs
Hmm.... I don't know why you people are having so many problems with ymesg... Its simple enough, no extras needed, just standard XP/2k CD and batch-files (or WPI or whatever) is all that's required. Straight (direct download) link to latest build of yahoo messenger 6 (this is the same one I use): http://download.yahoo.com/dl/installs/ymsgr/ymsgr_1750.exe (4.5 MB) Just install it with "/s" switch for silent install, that's all! (don't forget the taskkill for killing ymessenger when it starts up after the install). -
help for search And then, see whether you are using the google search field (on top) or the forum's own search function. For most purposes, the forum's search is extremely powerful (which incidentally, no one can do a THING about, since its Invision software, and all boards running on IPB will have the same search ). If you take 5 mins to figure out how the "advanced search" works, you'll find it much more helpful. In most cases, using Invision search is just like google's search, with the difference that searching for multiple terms is a bit more intricate to learn.

OOOoops, Deleted Partition, Need Data Recovery
prathapml replied to Slip400's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@Slip400 Easy Recovery Pro v6.04 That's the name of the saviour. How you'd get it is up to you, and its pretty easily available, if you get what that means. Acronis has a few tools too (specifically, disk director suite 9) to recover deleted partition tables. Note: Do not use the HD from which you intend to recover data. And when you recover files from it using any of the above tools, have a second HD connected to the system, for storing recovered files. -
@Yzöwl No offence meant, but the better thing to do would be to take down your *REAL* .txt file from the above post. Atleast then, diesel can have a single point of source. Otherwise, when he updates his post, people will still be downloading from YOUR post, and start complaining. @diesel_98a Nice effort! It would be excellent, if as the others said, you could rename the file attached in your post as .RTF so it won't open with Notepad (since its formatted for wordpoad and such editors).

Source: Wired.com Was an interesting read.... Click above link to read full article.

True, I did not say you were wrong... I just tell the other possibilities (that might be easier). @jamesas Do not post such huge lots of code, attaching it is a better option. Preferably, host larger files elsewhere and link to it instead of attaching to post. In this case, the extra code has been removed directly, since its already been discussed (search would have told you how to delete the reg keys).
-
Oh no.... Not *YET* again! This is a topic been discussed any number of times in the past. Take a look at the "Software Hangout" section of MSFN forum for your answer. *thread closed

As Asta says above, you can use reg delete /? at command-line. Or if you use .REG files, you can delete those reg keys in this way: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ShellNew] "Bitmap Image"=-That is, you have a "dash" as the value, to clear out that key.

Royale Update Pack
prathapml replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Instead of using anyone else's modified pack, you can do it yourself (link). All reqd info there. One down-side to editing that theme: That theme is exciting precisely because its the first real theme to add to XP, which is officially signed by MS. Editing will remove that USP, and you'll end up having to use the hacked uxtheme.dll -
Hello niteman, welcome to MSFN forums! If you are willing to take the time and efforts to find a solution, its a joy to help you out! Now, some pointers I can give are (probably others can add on to what I've posted here): 1. download and apply your skin. 2. Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\RANDOM.default" folder and open "prefs.js". 3. Note this line. In my case, it is: user_pref("extensions.lastSelectedSkin", "nauticalTb");4. Your skin should be in "C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Thunderbird\chrome" 5. Note down what other changes the skin install makes to the registry/config files. 6. Then, we want to modify the default user profile to use the theme we want (so that all users created will have the skin). Go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Thunderbird\defaults\profile Over there, add the desired lines to "prefs.js" (add whatever you had found to be relevant, during steps 3 and 4). 7. That's all. Now when your thunderbird folder is copied/extracted to the desired location, the skin is already pre-set. You might like to take a look at configure mozilla ff/tb path-independantly, and set sticky on start menu. Happy 2005! Please note that this topic is being moved for posting in wrong section! This is more related to "Application Switches". So similarly, post any further questions you have after deciding on the most suitable section to post in.

Tell me when you find out how to do it I also want to disable live-update silently. Other than that, you have posted this topic in the wrong section... Should have been in Application Switches forum!
