  1. The direct link works fine here too. Thanks for the heads-up.
  2. Deleting threads is not much benefit. Hmm... so what was the key to be pressed, anyway?
  3. How to get a multi-boot DVD up and working? And what else can you put in to increase your disk's usefulness on the whole? look here Take a look at this page, for your need to have I386 on the the installed computer (i.e., called making a local flat available). link to topic Enjoy the New Year!
  4. T minus twelve, is the time-point in setup - it refers to the stage where XP setup shows "12 minutes remaining". what you can do at T-12 - link 3). Yes, that is for classic theme and start menu. It just uses standard classic color, so it has to be the "correct" one probably. Do try it and tell if that's the one. About whether you can remove the classic CPL tweak, I think you still need to apply that. About CurrentControlSet001, yes there are some tweaks that need to applied to the "001" key - those will then come into effect from next reboot. But most don't need to go into the "001" key. Just see what works and use it accordingly..... its up to you! I would strongly say don't use the settings that you're not sure of. If you don't know what some tweak does, don't use it - there can be lot of harm with unknown tweaks.Another thing to know, to prevent messes, is to not use tweaks that are ANYWAY only the defaults. I mean.... if the default value for a key is "1" and you are applying that key again from your regtweaks, then that can cause some unexpected problems later on. Apply a regtweak only when what you are applying is going to be different from the default. I'll give an example - in InternetExplorer, the default number of "days to keep" history is 20 days. So there's no need for you to again have a tweak that will set history to 20 days - tweak it only if you are going to set it to something other than 20 days. When you go to any key that has lot of settings (like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main) and export it to a .reg file, for use in your unattended install, you should delete the keys that you don't intend to change. I hope I explained it in understandable form....
  5. Do you mean to make bootable floppies for use to start the install, or do you mean to make your CD bootable?
  6. Right. But that breaks functionality. Whereas the intention of the pack is simply to have it pre-updated. As for myself, I do the files moving when needed, through batch-files - so that when I want to do a normal install, it stays normal.
  7. @solfog Yes... it will work fine.
  8. Check out comprehensive pre-configuration of IE6 in XP's uA for those IE specific tweaks.
  9. 1. The tweak for enable Quick Launch which is in the regtweaks at start of this thread, works properly. You need to apply it at T-12, that's the only time it will "stick", otherwise it loses the changes applied. 2. That setting is in the tool-bar key. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\ITBarLayoutSet the toolbar to how you want, then export that key. Needs to be applied at T-12, or else it won't stick. 3. Your "time for monitor" and other power settings are here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PowerSet it to how you want, reboot, then export that key. 4. Maybe this: ; small icons in start menu [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "Start_LargeMFUIcons"=dword:00000000 "Start_MinMFU"=dword:0000000a 5. Don't use registry tweaks for classic theme. You need to have the below section in winnt.sif instead: [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff=Yes DefaultThemesOff=Yes
  10. What you need to do, is to somehow get rid of the HAL for your mainboard (get it to use a generic one) before SysPrep-ing it. How to do it, has been outlined for win2k. But it seems to be not working with winxp.
  11. Don't post such huge lots of code! Small chunks of code = use tags.large chunks = attach.
  12. Right-click, "view page info" will tell you those details.
  13. @Cartoonite The 5 minute time wasting, and the hours of time wasted to install, is simply too bad - VPC is ridiculous. VMware is the way to go for speed. My uA install takes 28 mins on real machine, and 30 mins in VM (and this is WITH an immense lot of apps installed - 4 GB, but I did various optmizations to cut down time of install).
  14. If compiled with the freeware tool I have, no CMD window is shown. I don't know for sure about QBFC - I heard of it only recently, I haven't tested with it (but since its commercial, gotta be for a good reason ).
  15. Happens very rarely - that too on a windows install that has crossed its 2nd month (too old, collecting junk). By that point, everytime windows boots up it needs voracious amounts of membory and so resizes the page file. But if you use the Admin VBscript method to set the page-file on a fresh install, it will work just fine (atleast until you have too much junk loading at startup).
  16. This really is the fourth such thread in the last two weeks. Forgot to search, eh? Anyways, you have bat2com, (free) and QuickBatchFileCompiler (paid).
  17. The above choices weren't "kinds" of OSes. They were the category's specimens itself, right there. And if you meant to ask "version" actually, there's lots of such topics already - approx 30 me thinks.
  18. rofl, How to get a life No offense towards anyone, the urge to post the above funny was just irrepressible.
  19. It's never easy to overcome innate nerdity, a serious Internet addiction, or a hard-core computer gaming habit, but trying usually isn't as painful as kidney stones. Here's how: Let go of the mouse. Turn off the computer. Play a game of solitaire with a real deck of cards. Eat something other than taco chips. Fart without recording it and putting it up your Web page. Get some sleep in bed rather than on your keyboard. Next time you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, don't tell everyone on your ICQ list about it. Open a window without turning your computer back on (yes, it is possible). Very gradually expose your eyes to increasingly bright light so as to avoid damage or permanent sun blindness. When you feel prepared for a massive dose of non-CRT radiation, put on welding goggles and go outside. If you see someone, say "Hi" to them instead of trying to make the modem connect sound. Visit a friend that you haven't spoken to in years because they don't have an email address. Have ".com" officially removed from behind your name. Go on a date with someone you didn't meet in a chat room.
  20. Maybe you tried it, but just for good measure I'll say it: default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWSIs the line you want to look into. Change it to the one that you want to be default.
  21. 1. Yes, do as Cartoonite said. And its not needed to include the proxy lines (if its not specified, it will use defaults). 2. Why do you want to waste disks? Make ISO images and test it in VMware or VirtualPC.
  22. Oh! That's really sad news. No more torrents for half the regulars who go there as their first fix for the day. Its closed for good - forever (or atleast, when it returns it won't have torrents). Let's hope they can somehow pull through and make it back.
  23. @stinkjones, do you know.... actually you have got a good idea there. Yes, you *CAN* do that. In fact, I've been doing that since some time - for the mozilla installer (there's a .log file that says what reg and file entries were made). So then, once you know what the installer did, you can do the same yourself - without needing 3rd party apps to monitor the install. But for most purposes doing so is not needed - but some cases do suit the "work in reverse direction from uninstaller logs" very well. Merry Christmas!
  24. I don't understand that pic.... Just a full-res scanned photo of someone with a bent pipe, on a normal sub-urb road! Or maybe that is supposed to portray such good realism in HL3...
  25. I don't quite understand what you mean...The link to topic, which I gave above, was just a example of the sort of things that drive the forum-regulars to madness - since the same question comes in once a week atleast. Just adding that info (which I pointed to above) in the guide (where exactly to add, is up to you) will be sufficient, /me thinks. I'll keep my eyes peeled for other frequent irritants, and post them here.
