[Req] Help make Move, Copy, Delete AVI's smaller
TranceEnergy replied to ricktendo's topic in Customizing Windows
Okay, of course. I remember i tried to DELETE the animation inside that shell32 or was it msgina .dll , i dont recall. Anyway it was this keyboard ctrl-alt-del animation among other things. So would it then be safe to just extract the animation, or sound .wav for that matter, and just remove everything in it, to save space, and put it back in? Or are there ways to safely remove the entire thing? -
[SOLVED] Switch to x64 for HD video editing ?
TranceEnergy replied to patchworks's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
How about both? x64 is faster on many things, but with an outdated computer like that, i dont know if it would do much good. I would rather use money for a hardware upgrade first, definitively. -
Well, i remember trying to enable that option years ago, it didn't work then either. Sorry to hear it still isn't.

HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
Okay, i've started to go through Kurt's list versus my own. And i noted down a few differences. I'll add more if i find any... Hotfixes with KB'numbers' are not in Kurt's list and 'numbered' hotfixes are obviously from Kurt's list KB948570 contains : oleaut32.dll 5.2.3790.4235 advapi32.dll 5.2.3790.4235 shlwapi.dll 6.0.3790.4235 340-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB943055-x64-ENU contains oleaut32.dll 5.2.3790.4202 no other files ------ KB948963 contains : contains rsaenh.dll 5.2.3790.4313 Microsoft Enhanced Cryptographic Provider schannel.dll 5.2.3790.4313 TLS / SSL Security Provider 130-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB935840-x64-ENU contains: schannel.dll 5.2.3790.4068 no other files ---------------- KB945272 contains: shell32.dll Windows Shell Common Dll 6.0.3790.4220 230-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB943460-x64-ENU contains: shell32.dll 6.0.3790.4184 no other files --- Update craziness ;D one more: KB944043 contains many files new versions of windows time, workstation service etc.: lsasrv.dll 5.2.3790.4275 LSA Server DLL 300-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB943485-x64-ENU contains: lsasrv.dll 5.2.3790.4186 LSA Server DLL ops found another : KB952679 contains 1 file : win32k.sys 5.2.3790.4305 Multi-User Win32 Driver 360-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB941693-x64-ENU contains 1 file: win32k.sys 5.2.3790.4256 Multi-User Win32 Driver Another situation: 100-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB927891-v5-x64-ENU contains 1 file (i really should write update instead) : msi.dll 3.1.4000.4042 Windows installer Which of course is superseeded by 040-WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x64 msi.dll 4.5.6001.22159 So obviously if one chooses windows installer 4.5, one does not need the 100-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB927891-v5-x64-ENU Also about msxml 4.0 sp2 File Name: msxml4-KB936181-enu.exe Version: 4.20.9848.0 Security Bulletins: MS07-042 Knowledge Base (KB) Articles: KB936181 Date Published: 8/14/2007 Language: English Download Size: 5.4 MB is superceeded by: File Name: msxml4-KB941833-enu.exe Version: 4.20.9849.0 Knowledge Base (KB) Articles: KB941833 Date Published: 9/27/2007 Language: English Download Size: 5.4 MB about 480-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB946648-x64-ENU this only contains x86 file for Messenger Service wmsgsc.dll 4.7.0.3002 This entire hotfix should just be deleted. If one wants to run old msn, one can get version 5.1 which i *believe* is more or less the same as 4.7 only more secure/patched up etc. At least mark it as optional. Actually scratch that, looks like sp0 update. Tho there never was such a thing. It will try to update kernels, sp and mp, to version 5.2.3790.2771, far below sp2. Note: XMLLite is packaged with IE7. -
Well, this is a bit daring, but perhaps you could permanently rename the default name of Administrator to Kumo if you search in the registry hive files? Dont know if that would work, but perhaps. Here is and old link on the topic. Worth looking into i guess.

Well i remember i used AsPack once upon a time on windows 2000 i think it was, that worked. Program had option to enable decompression by default in windows boot or something. Dont really recall too good, except that it worked. I know upx is far better for compression, but i'm regardless sure there are ways to compress system . AlfonsoX: A couple of simple steps you could do to maximize space usage on your 4gb flashdisk. Get a disk partitioning program that can set cluster size to 512bytes (0.5kb) and disable pagefile or at very least set it to a small size like 16mb minimum/16mb maximum for systemdrive and rather use a large pagefile on another drive, if you really think you need it.. Also you could use normal windows compression. I have no idea if there are tweaks to set a stronger compression as default in windows, but worth a google i guess. On the other end there are tweaks to disable compression for good that i know.
-
Why not upx everything? Most things could be compressed i guess. Stay away from kernel files. Test in a vm setup.

HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
I actually installed both. However i dont have IE installed, only IE core, so old activex is removed as well i assume. Tho i cant know for sure, sometimes nlite keeps components partially and leaves registry settings for things to be compatible. There is no normal procedure , add/remove control applet, to remove "old activex" that i have ever seen. So i have no idea what they mean by that. -
Sounds pretty normal to me.

Using nLite for Network Unattended XP installation
TranceEnergy replied to SDChargers's topic in nLite
Seriously you should rename that folder to INSTALL instead, long names in setup and "obscure" chars, never good. -
I get this as well if i do NOT patch SFC , OR if i do NOT copy with security catalog files for hotfixes. It is a known problem.

TranceEnergy replied to Thared33's topic in vLite
From what i remember when i had vista installations here, i integrated whatsitname hotfix for better servicepack installations, before i slipped sp1 in, and the hotfixes. By doing it that way install image was a bit slimmer as i recall. -
INSTALLATION ISSUE: Windows XP Pro SP3 integrated OEM disc
TranceEnergy replied to nanascho3's topic in nLite
I dont think its nlite. I think it's you or the computer which is the problem. No offence. Last session? -
You can do it on 32bit, but not without hassle as you say. Beer isn't free, gotta work for it.. It's been discussed several times, check ryanvm check on this forums, etc. It's doable.

TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
Thank you for this glorious update! I am so grateful that you have added such update as the 155- too, i dont care wheter or not its for intel cpu fix, i just like having everything in latest versions. Kick a** effort there, good job sir! On dot.net 3.5 with sp1 built does contain 2.0 and 3.0 and 3.5 all versions with x86 and x64, just looked inside the temp dirs. Goto link Kurt here provides and down on the same page you can choose to download the full version and not just "the bootstrapper" which it says on the page. I suggest using /lang:ENU for english only, so it skips other languages installations. Perhaps install even goes a bit faster then. -
That's the worst crap i've read all year i think. So if someone stands in my garden and screams racists to people walking by, i am responsible for him since its my garden? So by the same principle if i were to come to his garden and set his house on fire, that would be his responsibility? Wehehehelll. Logic all the way.
-
I think i had the same problem as you Kumo, need to check it in vmware later. I followed recipe on unattended.msfn also, and it was strange. But i have another plan for that. I'll just steal nlite's way of making administrator user with any name i want. =)
-
Let's not forget partitions can be of 2 types, primary or logical, they may be extended or not. I have always used ONLY primary partitions, never have more then 4 partitions on each drive.
-
If you use nlite for commercial usage, that is not legal/allowed, last time i checked.

Some xp64 languages aren't removable.. (hotfix pack from ryanvm fo
TranceEnergy replied to bledd's topic in nLite
Probably, but dont know of anyone, I use NLS Reader, a small program i found because i wanted to know what nls files nlite keeps when it has tried to remove all languages. It keeps a lot of languages, such as turkish which i have no idea why it keeps. Nlite seems to do a better job if i try to remove languages twice. It does not seem to be able to remove every language in 1 process. I found NLS-Reader on www.wangz.net, it is far from perfect but its a good start, and best i found so far, if you find better program for this task, Please PM me. Thanks.
