  1. I'm working on making batch files to be executed while installing windows, pre login, extracting save games to their paths. Typically files that lies under Documents and settings(Users directory). I also need a pre-install batch file routine to archive savegames (and also configurations). I'm archiving with winrar to extract it to a system path named variable ( %myuser% or %usersdir% f.ex). As one who re-installs regularly its a pain in the a** to have to take backup of such files all the time, along with adobe settings and so forth. Any chance of 7z sfx doing this?
  2. im going to try the alternative ie pack, tho it doesnt say anything about x64, makes me worry a bit. update: I used the alternative pack which directly integrates on xp cd source. recipe: xp x64 cd, integrate sp2, integrate alternative direct integration ie7, make iso. Then i proceeded with my preset to remove ie etc and rest of things. I got error message in vmware "not enough resources to complete the api" That was the NR_IE7en_Addon_2.0.1_alt.7z , im going to try the other one now, sigh.. update2: got error that adparse.mui something could not be copied. I didnt expect any packs to work for this, but at least now i have tried.. So unless someone can make a *proper* ie7 integration routine, that will work with nlite and removing ie7 itself but keeping ie core, im out of luck =(
  3. I have done normal ie7 integrations in the past, and then tried to have nlite remove IE afterwards, didnt exactly work as i recall.
  4. Hello! I am removing internet explorer from my installs and it works fine, however, since i need services.mcs to work, i need to keep IE core. Is there any way i can update that to f.ex internet explorer 7 versions, or is that no way and im stuck on ie6 core. I guess i could always extract files and manually copy over etc, but i dont know what files i would need to achieve updating all of ie core.
  5. I decided to try and do something about this myself this is what i have come up with so far- ---start of file Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "CTFMON.EXE"=- [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "CTFMON.EXE"=- [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "CTFMON.EXE"=- [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "CTFMON.EXE"=- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF] "Disable Thread Input Manager"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\MSUTB] "ShowDeskBand"=dword:00000000 --end of file--- Now S-1-5-19 and 20 there may or may not be needed, but i guess it cant hurt to have regedit try to delete them. I havent got much info on showdeskband and the other one there, but it was what microsoft kb was recommending, as far as my english could tell me. I did this since i will have to make a install for other folks, who will want the language options, but not the language bar running in itself. ALSO i havent had time yet to check for other places for d.t.i.m and showdeskband, then current user, might add it to system etc as well. If anyone could confirm or not on this, i would like to know, please dont hesitate to pm me on this subject. edit: in nlite.inf there is actually: HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run","ctfmon.exe" Which i think got there since i tried to use my native language as regional settings with nlite.
  6. Tell me what kind of source that xp x64 *exactly* is? What language? Also your preset would be nice.
  7. Just create a batch file to run. I have been able to have "nlite" install of the software in post 1 here. There are no problems/bugs here, only lack of exp from threadstarter. I suggest you read through Kurt aust's excellent how-to on create xp x64 cd/dvd, which will cover just about everything mentioned. offtopic: I'm going to try to have diskpart change partition letters on next re-install, but i fail it will not work. I read some threads about it,but they are kind of outdated.
  8. Have you tried with latest versions of course? I dont have exp with RD in WIN but i never once had this kind of issue with open source tools such as VNC. I find it a bit weird that it is an issue at all with RD for win. According to this link, all you need is a hex editor to possibly fix it yourself, tho i didnt see it mention x64 there, it might be worth a try? I would however, recommend you first try with the registry edits, and see if that helps.
  9. Which could be caused by what i wrote in my last post, as well.
  10. Savegames and what not: I'm just so in love with winrar and its SFX option now. You know how games store your savegames under documents and settings and either under application data directly or under username\local settings\application data. Well i figured out that i could archive my savegames and with %userprofile% i think it was, extract them to the correct paths. Very nice if you (reader) like me like to not need to RE-install every game or program just because you want to reinstall xp (x64 in this case). Like this ;The comment below contains SFX script commands Path=%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\ SavePath Silent=1 Overwrite=1 Hide all, silent all, overwrite anything, basically tell it to shut up and extract files regardless(tho no files should be present there anyway) So all i have to do, is to call the archive exe at after login now i guess, to have it extract to correct username directory. I havent tested on real install yet, but i sure am going to.
  11. Thread needs good cleaning with entries not containing relevant information for topic, deleted. Removed : Shell Media Handler Result : Now can't view File Versions of things, i didnt think of that when selecting it ( was thinking of mp3 tags etc), had forgot. But i dont think it says in here. Tbh, im thinking of writing a new post containing all information that i have and sticking it to a single post, but not right now =)
  12. Hello! I want to integrate both the drivers themselves, and also the soundcards control program, xonar d2x audio center is it's name. I had originally used the latest RC drivers downloaded, but they dont work with the control panel program, so to speak (audio center). So back to drawing board, and fetching drivers from cd. Now the entire x64 drivers pack are over 40mb, while the only drivers required for it to work is just 4mb (Which im currently using), so there is much bloatware here. I think just copying over the audio center and launching it will work, since the audio center will launch even from another harddrive and such. But that would just be nasty =). Also there's some asio drivers and things i dont know if really is needed or not. Driver direct link (old version, closest thing to retail driver) http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Audio_Car...722_LO02_XP.zip http://support.asus.com/download/download....SLanguage=en-us Any help on getting driver bloat-free would be nice also of course.
  13. Just to let you know things like this can be caused by all sorts of things. F.ex tweaking Win32KPrioritySeparation can cause system freezes, when copying large files, but otherwise system is working fine.
  14. Well i removed one to many files from user mode framework. HOWEVER, it seems to be completely, since i did it, possible to have those services at least disabled/inactive, but that you need to have the files on the system. So basically, you will need some of the files from wmp's services, but you can have the services disabled, but you still stuck with some files. (This is how nuhi makes nliting xp work, you can remove wireless services and windows update f.ex, but the files are still there, you need to know what can be deleted and what can not) But this is where the integration comes in, one could root out what files needed to be copied over and registered, then after integration, some script or what not, could be run at pre login stage, to kill off the rest of the bloat. Just an idea, im no genius at that apartment, im sure there are more efficient ways. It is very easy to install wmp11, and then just delete the services for it. WMP will still work just fine. F.ex just take permissions control in Regedit, and you can delete almost everything. Which proves it should be doable yes.? I have heard good things of foobar2k, maybe i will give it another go. Reason why i like wmp11 integration, is because it is updating software already on xp cd, and needed for various crap, such as games and thumbnailing etc. Crap yes. So lets hope wmp12 will be better... update: okay now on fresh reinstall without wmp. Turns out i got wmp streaming working with just the wmp plugin, so i dont need wmp at all now, nor IE. Totally PERFECT.
  15. I would like to see a update list or pack with all normal priority updates, as well as the misc updates found on 5eraph's list. I'm permanently switching to installing all of those hotfixes as well. Keeping system as close to an eventual SP3 level. Which is more or less my goal, tho yours may be different. Just speaking my dream out loud =) While on subject of WMP, i am going to totally remove it on my next install, which i've normally done, however, im struggling to find a good alternative that will simply stream files from websites, such as wmp streams. I'm using portable software mostly, so once system is installed, every game and application i have, is already READY for use, so portable would be nice.
  16. I actually have made a batch file that tries to move the msdia80.dll from all partitions to its C:\PF\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VC folder. (vb2005) I'm a bit confused atm. Can't think in this summer heat. Thank you for the link, i might try this on next install!
  17. Winsxs. Visual c++ stores its files there by nature, afaik.
  18. No, and i think i have tweaked a bit more then you =) Seriously, just unpack both cabs and do a file comparison, search any files containing usb might be a good start and go from there.
  19. Hello. In an effort to make xp x64 iso bloat free for wmp components, i've gone through some heavy duty search & destroy for anything like portable, drm, user mode driver framework etc. I have actually managed to get rid of those services listed up in xp so thats good. However i get 2 errors, 1 during install, and 1 after login. Requesting this wmdrmsdk.dll. Upon login i see that it is UnregMP2.exe trying to access it, but alas can not find it. Well i have searched with both windows explorer and total commander (can search for text inside .cab files, neat) but i find no more references to this wmdrmsdk.dll. So i am thinking it is being called upon by a hex name, or a number identifier, if you understand what i mean, if you're newb u wont so forget it. This is driving me more crazy then i'd like to become. I posted about it on booogy's forum but they dont seem to be present or what not. I'm going to try to find it still, but i am running out of ideas soon on what to search for.
  20. Nlite is NOT for commercial use, just fyi.
  21. Okay thanks for answearing! 1: Question : Ok so i have to install both 2005 and 2008 of x64? Can do. Fact that i dont need to have x86 versions is great. I have done a few installs now with only 2008 x64, and for SOME reason it unpacks file to root of one of my partitions. Im running it with /Q parameter only. This didnt happen when i installed all 4 versions. Weird, but i guess it must be something else that is messed up. Doesnt seem logical. edit: update: I have done a few more tests, and even when trying to make 2008x64 silent by making it install through winrar SFX and telling it to extract to temporary folder, it still extracts to largest free space partition. Total mess. 2005x64 works great. I have a fix for that msdia80.dll btw, v9 beta is with 2008x64. Which says it all for me atm. Im hoping it will get updated, i dont know what has triggered these actions, but i guess i can live without 2008 version. However, i have removed much with nlite, and i am using a somewhat modified version of your approach. I dont include the Run2 batch file system, simply just 1 file. Have left shutdown off, so i manually restart for the time being. On your hardware. Memory that you selected are overpriced here, Mushkin has cheaper 1000mhz ddr2, that i know of. Also Samsung F1 1TB performance/price is very nice. Even beats ES drives. Also, they are silent. If you're not gaming at all, i would choose a passively cooled graphics card, or better, a decent mobo with good internal graphics. F.ex upcoming amd am2 780/790-GX. Better performance then fast 6600GT OC/7300GT (I have a 7300GT and its more then enough for any day 2 day task+ its dead silent). Around 2500 3dmark06 performance, roughly 4k 3dmark05. Having said that, benchmarks mean squat to real world gaming performance (cpu to pci latency is the secret king), but i dont want to go more off topic then i already have, sorry. I have been building computers since i was 5, if i knew more about the purpose i would be happy to point of a few things, if you're interested.
  22. Punkbuster Services program has been SILENTLY updated, and now runs silently. For all you gamers: echo Installing Punkbuster,New update 24july 2008 (download date). %Source%Silence\pbsvc.exe /i --no-prompts --i-accept-the-pb-eula It WILL pop up the installation gui, but you dont have to click or anything, it will shutdown by itself. I tested this with uninstalling PB, had FW disabled/stopped, then i launched the install with parameters here shown. Worked perfectly. Kurt: I tried installing .dot net 3.5 and the 120 seconds timer was not enough for the program to finish it's optimizations, ie go idle, it kept at 50% cpu usage, till 120 seconds ran out. I'm thinking it might need a good 3 minutes and 30 seconds or so. I'm going to test 2.0 now, and clock down how long the install takes, real install as always. Stopped using Vm a while back now.
  23. Crahak : 8gb ddr2 IS mainstream, maybe not in your country but everyone i know, has at least 4gb, and generally around 8gb is the norm. I'm upgrading to 16GB once i can get hold of a decent 4x4gb set, should be out some next month hopefully. 8GB ddr3 however, wont be mainstream before early next year most likely.
  24. Wise words as always. I also just noticed you have skipped using x86 version of Visual c++. Can i ask why? I am going to try the same, only with the 2008 version instead. I'm having a bit of an annoyance, which i need a registry fix of sorts for. It's been bugging me for months but never to severe to the point i actually started doing research until i had a solution, i intend to change that now.: Everytime i check for windows updates/ OR go to device manager, its a yellow icon, for the Microsoft UAA bus driver for High Definition Audio. Have googled in the past but obviously didnt find any resolution. And if i DO download the actual driver for it, there are no drivers for it for x64 (it was already included way back in sp2, or perhaps it came with x64 cd, doesnt matter tho), It only updates whatever registry key so there are no missing driver in WU and no yellow icon in device mgr. Im going to check the driver itself. edit: Glad to see you around Kurt =) Also: Why bot .Net 2.0+sp1 pack and also .net 3.5? Why not just 3.5? (edit: i see in the reference assemblies folder, there are only 3.0 and 3.5 folders, no 2.0-hm...) i reckon you keep both entries there, but at least you should REM one of them.
  25. Okay, more double posting, seeing as everyone is on vacation atm and i am a sucker for attention =). I went through all of the optional/misc updates 5eraph had on his list, and i found some very interesting things. A picture says it all..... Also i found some things that used drivers from Vista x64, which i already knew was possible (using ATI Serial ATA native driver f.ex from vista64 works great in xp x64), but best: New Kernel version. Even though these updates are only updating minor things specifically, chances are they are made with updated libraries or what not. I have installed every gawdamn last one of these manually, and had no problems. Going to do a real nlite install now that i have this out of the way. But not quite sure what order to do it all in, i will probably just throw them all in there at once, for now, my current install is broken due to one too many new hardware installs (new mobo/gfx etc). Have fun =)
