  1. Just as an off-topic aside, on Windows 98 I'm still running an ancient Trend Micro antivirus program wonderfully named 'PC-cillin' from 2002. It stopped getting automatic updates over ten years ago, but I can still manually download and install the pattern files even after all that time, which I do every week. As long as the format of the pattern files does not change of course, there's no reason why you can't do that indefinitely.
  2. Any more political rants here will not be tolerated. That is forbidden here in technical threads.
  3. Posting about Kaspersky is not off-topic here, as it's a security program which can still be used on Windows XP, which is the topic of this thread. Nobody here has the authority to ban the discussion of any program in any thread, unless it's off-topic for that thread. The risks of using Kaspersky are now well known, and should be discussed, but only on a technical basis, not concerning the software's origins, which quickly descends into political rows, which are not allowed here in technical threads. It's up to individuals to make the choice as to whether to still use programs like Kaspersky. Helping people make that choice is what these discussions are all about.
  4. As I believe that 360Chrome 13.5.2036 is the last version of the browser which will run on Windows XP, I see no point in NotHereToPlayGames, or anyone else, doing any further work on it, unless some way of improving its performance or compatibility comes to light.
  5. Even if the other connections work, there could still be a bad connection on the headphones. If the motherboard and daughterboard are connected by connectors which can be unplugged, unplug them and clean the contacts and plug them in again, making sure that the connectors are seated properly of course.
  6. Just my tuppence worth, if there is not even a click or pop from the headphones when the machine starts up, that sounds to me like a hardware issue. Are you plugging the headphones into a socket directly on the motherboard, or is it on the case somewhere? If the latter, you should check the physical connection between the socket panel and the motherboard.
  7. My Lenovo Flex 10 freezes on restart, it's a known issue. It shuts down fine. It still works 1000 times better with the replacement acpi.sys than it did before, so I'm not complaining!
  8. Not seeing that here. Stays in WebKit mode. It is set to switch automatically in the advanced settings page.
  9. I just tried this on my CHROME.DLL and HxD said it couldn't find C0 FB 8D 86 F0 02 00 00 50 E8.
  10. No extension needed, you can change the browser's default user agent string in 360Loader.ini. Make no difference I'm afraid.
  11. Is this now happening with all versions of 360Chrome do we know? I seem to remember there was a hack which had to be done to chrome.dll before to get the translate function to work. Perhaps it hasn't been done with the version with 13.5.2036?
  12. You may be right, but when the MSFN status thread was set up on RyanVM (by dencorso I think) it was a nice place to be able to go and check in with others when MSFN was offline. Of course it's not essential to have somewhere like that, but I always thought it was a good thing to have.
  13. Confirmed here, I'm just seeing a server error reported after a long delay.
  14. Thanks xper. I think that blows a hole in the completely speculative theory proposed earlier that a forum software update caused the outage! Surely only you personally would have performed that. I'll go back on topic now! 😁
  15. Thanks, but I'll say again, what we're looking for is a forum where people can refer to a thread which discusses MSFN's current status if it goes offline, for whatever reason. We're not talking about a substitute for MSFN as a whole, which I'm sure we all hope will never become necessary! On RyanVM here (archived) we just had a social thread where we re-grouped when MSFN was down. I may be wrong, but I think it was instigated by dencorso. As that forum no longer exists, we'd just like to find a suitable replacement.
  16. Yes, that's what I do if I'm not actually logged in. I wonder what @jumper is seeing? It may depend on the browser of course.
  17. I can still read the MSFN page on Facebook without logging in, I just have to close the login prompt. A login nag remains at the bottom of the page, but it doesn't stop you reading the content.
  18. There is a Facebook page too. Personally I would prefer that if we go that route. I have always kept well clear of Twitter, never had an account, but I am active on Facebook.
  19. I don't think that 'fix' by xper, which was just removing a news page which had been hacked and had spam inserted into it, had anything to do with the outage. In fact during the outage the news pages were still online, it was only the forum pages which were inaccessible.
