I rather use 2003 because its more updated, and NT4 is a joke because it won't support partitions or hard drives over 8 GIG. Stupid. And NT 4 has a lack of driver support as well. Worse post 95 OS ever. (Sorry) if I were you, I'll upgrade to 2003, fast.

More money and assured market dominance. Yep, Microsoft are money hungry cheapskates. Coming with with cheap ways to scam money out of consumers. I hate the fact they are placing a spyware script into this crappy WGA. Its none of Microsoft's business to know whats in our computers. All I did was use a firewall to block them from "phoning home" on my computer. I'm not about to let Microsoft check my computer, screw them.
-
You serious? When I had 98 I had to keep reinstalling it.
-
I know this will affect XP, will it also effect 2003 as well? All you need is to activate it, it doesn't have this WGA crap, yet. Read that topic in the Technology news section, I've already posted my comments there. What do I think of this WGA? Microsoft is overdoing it. They cannot treat legit users who happen to have an "illegit" code, just because there is something wrong with Microsoft. I brought the OS, and installed this piece of crap. (WGA) I've passed validation, what else does Microsoft want?
-
I use Firefox and I never encountered any spyware. Opera is safe, for now. Hackers will eventually turn their attention to it one day.
-
Like Windows, but I hate Microsoft. Their policies are crap and I think they are overdoing it these days. For example, this WGA crap they are implementing. Stupid.
-
Heard about it, I think Microsoft is going way to far. I paid for the **** OS, what more do they want? First we have spyware, great. Blocked it with my firewall, Microsoft has no right collecting information from my computer. Now they are releasing a "kill switch"? What about people with legit copies of Windows and this WGA crap doesn't verify it as legit? Microsoft has gone way to far this time. Since when Microsoft owns my computer? Screw them. They don't own any of my hardware. If Microsoft keeps this up they will lose support and customers. I'm stuck with Windows because thats the only OS that runs most applications.

Do it once a month on my computer. Or I format it if my computer plays up. Normally I leave it there if it works properly, no need to format it,

Try Coolwebsearch. One of the nastiest malware sites out there.

I'm running XP Pro on my old 850 Mhz and had 128MB of RAM and it worked fine. Then I added 256 and everything worked like a charm.

Use Firefox as your main internet browser. You'll get none or less spyware that Internet Explorer. -

Spy Sweeper and Spy Doctor is the best for me. Why isn't it included in this poll. -
How to burn a bootable DVD for Vista 5384?
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to edson203's topic in Windows Vista
You can also download this program called WinISO that allows you to add files in an ISO image file as well. -
I installed Vista and it ran fine, though it had a lot of bloated stuff which I didn't like. Aero runs fine on my computer, its performance was alright. I'm using an Athlon AMD 64 CPU and I installed the 64 bit version of Vista. And it took up more RAM and disk space. When I compared the 32 bit version, it look up less space and RAM. So I'll stick with the 32 bit version.

If you use Windows XP and 2003 and you have cable internet, they give you faster download speeds, unlike 98/ME. I received speeds over 200KB when downloading a file off from HTTP or a FTP when using XP/2003, and when I compared it to 98/ME, I got a measly speed of 30KB maximum. Lame. You can disable the themes if XP is a bit laggy. XP and 2003 runs like a dream on my computer, its performance is so much better.

At least the NT series were more stable than 9x, so I'll stick to it. As I said, I rather use an OS that uses more RAM if its stable.

Win2k3 Evaluation Expired - Can't Login
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to mutahir's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
You can boot into safe mode and you can still log in, without the networking protocols, though. -
Windows 98 less buggy than XP? Excuse me if I'm wrong, but 98, well, the whole 9x kernel has stability issues, frequent BSOD's and crashes. With 2K/XP/2003, I hardly encountered any BSOD's, unless if my hardware plays up. 9x just randomly causes BSOD's and crashes at anytime. I don't think 98 was very stable. So XP here beats the stability issue of 98. I use XP because I can get my work done better than 98, and more advanced networking support.
-
If some of you people keep saying that Windows 98 is more superior than XP, then how so? Please explain. Some people keep saying that and don't give clear examples.
-
Did you upgrade from w98 to XP on the same AND unchanged hardware? Or did you add more ram in order to run XP? Because if you did so, you may have not need to upgrade to have a stable system. In fact XP is stable ONLY BECAUSE it requires 128 and because 256 is recommanded and because practicaly no one is running it with les than 512 Mb. Run w98se++ on a computer meeting the XP recommandations and ou will rarely see a crash. I upgraded Windows 98 from XP without any hardware changes and it worked like a charm. No more annoying BSOD's, 10x better stable performance. XP worked great, I've been using XP since then. No need to go back to 98. Though I did dual boot with 98 and XP, I checked out 2003 and replaced 98 with 2003. And I don't regret it at all, 2003 works great too.
-
When I upgraded Windows XP from Windows 98 I was happy. Sure it takes more RAM, but at least it wast stable. Since then I've been using XP and I never looked back. I liked Windows 98, but its old. And I don't think it was stable, it did freeze and crash a lot with my computer. I'm not going to start a debate with you guys, no point really. We're all entitled to our opinions. If some of you guys hate Windows XP why can't you use 2000? Or use 2003, which is better. I thought 2000's performance was better than 98.

Did Link21 get banned here?

The problem went away by itself. Thanks for trying to help. Don't know what caused it, but its working fine. I was able to boot into safe mode properly though.

Hi, I have a problem starting up Windows XP. It gets pass the Welcome screen, and the after that the whole OS stops loading. It doesn't bring up the desktop, it stays there. I can bring up the task manager, but for some reason explorer.exe won't start, though I typed it into the Run command, nothing happens. I reimaged my machine, same problem, nothing worked. Can you guys please identify this problem, thanks.
