    Boot Usb

Uh, yes it is. I've tried it. Maybe you should try something before stating it is something it isn't. It installs directly to USB, uses it's own registry. Does that sound like it boots from the USB drive? More succinctly, can you boot e.g. Windows XP from a USB drive and keep Windows 2000 running on the same machine at the same time?
  2. Any thoughts on Free FDISK?
  3. This is nothing to do with warez. They don't support nor distribute the software anymore, in other words they don't care.
  4. That's no way to prevent others from messing with the system. Drives are hidden, not inaccessible. Better to install DeepFreeze or some other state-restoration utility instead.
  5. The enumeration mechanism follows the order - The first partition of each physical drive is enumerated, followed by the second partition of each physical drive, third partition, etc.
  6. Typical FireFox propaganda right there...For the record, I have a secured IE6.0 that has not managed to infect itself.

So it's just a shell, not even a bootable OS. IMHO definitely not worth paying *anything* for that.
  8. Either that or his XP installation is slow because of huge numbers of autoruns, disk not defragged, cache is filled up, etc.
  9. Indeed. This is probably more of a "look, we can do this" kind of thing - just like the OS written in Java.
  10. 1. Configure and secure IE 2. HOSTS 3. Proxomitron No AV for me, but I usually recommend NOD32 to anyone that absolutely *has to* have one (usually I give them a long talk about being cautious and tell them if they get infected it's their own fault )
  11. Interesting point. Would it be possible to rebuild it with only the needed VXDs (and put the other VXDs that normally aren't in it) and decrease bootup time even further?
  12. Google Earth 3.0 works fine.
  13. Run MemTest86+ on the system for a few hours and see what happens.
  14. I just downloaded everything from their site and am willing to Rapidshare/Megaupload/etc. it on demand.
  15. Another little correction
  16. The hard drive may be failing. Take it out and put it into another computer (2.5"/1.8" HDDs can be connected to a standard desktop PC with a suitable adapter), then copy off everything important. If there's a directory named I386, that's your XP system files, you need to copy that directory too for backup purposes.

200 boots or until the USB drive wears out, whichever comes first Huge thread about this here: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14181 Now, it's only until the USB drive wears out, and no other limitations
  19. Look http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/539/ Set the PaintDesktopVersion value to 0.

    ctfmon.exe

I just delete the file, remove its run key in the registry and never let it restore it (SFP is disabled on my system) Useless for me, if I need to input Asian languages I have my own IME program anyway.
  21. Wow, what a waste of packaging material... That would be the only thing I'd care about if I bought this. A single DVD case would already be sufficient.
  22. Wow. I wasn't thinking that far back... IE 1.0 I haven't had any problems with IE at all, because I know how to secure it! Seems like IE7 will come with better secured defaults: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1899704,00.asp
  23. Maybe M$ finally did something right for once and disabled scripting by default in IE7... Open up Internet Options property page and look for security options. Scripting should be enabled for the Trusted Sites zone, and you should add those sites that you trust to it. Edit - found something about this: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1899704,00.asp
  24. This maybe a property sheet handler that's attempting to read the file's contents, essentially stealing it away from uTorrent. Start -> Run -> "regedit" Open the hkey_classes_root and find the .AVI folder, click on it. If it has a subfolder called ShellEx with some other folder {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-... } inside it, rename ShellEx to _ShellEx or something else so it doesn't find it. Note the value of the {default} entry and scroll down in the left pane, past all the extensions, until you find a folder named that entry (probably avifile or something like that). Open it, and again rename any ShellEx to _ShellEx. This should disable all context menu and property sheet handlers for the .AVI file type. See if that works.
  25. Great Look, A Shiny Shimmer
