  1. Where's the... All of the Above? Has anyone tried running one VM software inside another? That would be the real test of virtualisation - if it can truely imitate the real hardware.
  2. Much as sometimes I even use Java for a single or limited-use program that just isn't worth spending more time to make better. Of course, if the program turns out to be very useful and I intend to use it for a longer time or distribute it, it soon migrates down to C++, then C, and finally Asm .
  3. http://www.partimage.org/Main_Page Many Linux liveCDs probably come with it too.
  4. An IRQ, I/O, or memory range it needs was taken by another device.
  5. "My Controls" (upper right) "Compose New Message" (mid-left)
  6. Since when did fans mount on the top edge of the card?
  7. Think about that when your house finally burns down.
  8. http://www.qwerty-msi.com/ Whatever happened to that "real slipstreaming" project?
  9. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257751 Basically most of the USB win98 drivers provided by manufacturers have been small modifications of this (mainly the INF file)
  10. Hmm... that's an interesting statement
  11. Check the file association keys for .AVI then. Something might've messed up there.
  12. The essential services to network are the following:DHCP client (if you use DHCP, otherwise it can be disabled as well if you have manually set a static IP) Network Location Awareness Network Connections What manufacturer/model network card are you using?
  13. You could try adding the site to the Trusted Sites zone, but be careful... unless it's a site you really trust, you might get really infected. If the site still looks fine and everything seems to work then there is no concern at all. I get that warning a lot when browsing, and to me it's just telling me that it's stopped something potentially malicious from infecting my machine
  14. Because you're not supposed to see it at all if your hardware is fast enough, or M$ is intending to make Vista fast enough that you don't need to see it
  15. Keep in mind that the "inrush" current is actually 2-3 times the normal operating current...
  16. In fact, that's even faster then desktop search because you'll have many freed resources due to a lack of bloated desktopware running. ...and to anyone that says indexing makes searching faster: if you really need to search that often unless you're running a search engine of some sort, you need to organise your files better
  17. haven't heard that one before! I'll definitely remember that.
  18. Ok, let's not get into the anti-.NET debate again... even though I'm anti-.NET myself, I'm just not going to bother explaining how software efficiency has declined, it's a huge waste of resources, insults the real programmer's intelligence, etc..NET 3 has been released. Take it or leave it. I'll leave it. NOD32 FTW
  19. Ensure WinDir and WinBootDir parameters in MSDOS.SYS are set correctly. Regarding the registry size limit, do a bit a searching. I found this: http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.pu...db922df0288a29b

  21. I have a P233MMX machine here too... it's currently acting as a file server (Win98SE, actually - XP is just a bit heavy for such a processor). If at all possible, use Windows XP original (i.e. no SP) - SP1 and SP2 seem to successively increase memory and processor usage. This is a machine that you're not going to be using to access the Internet anyway, so any "security advantages" offered by SP2 won't be of much use.
  22. ...and your point is?You won't get infected if you just connect to the network, unless you don't know how to secure your XP install (by that, I mean configuring the security settings; NOT installing extra software).
  23. Vista has the Windows Classic GUI too BTW...
