DefWindowProc(). Use it.Regarding the comboboxes... have you made them too short? They need to be taller than the actual text area itself... -
Problems With Symantec Antivirus 2005
LLXX replied to zubi55's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
That's what you think... according to you someone could write a huge, verbose, official-looking essay claiming anything and you would probably believe it because the author "seemed to know much on the subject".Having no references makes it all the more suspicious. After searching the Internet a few times to see if this information has been published somewhere else, (e.g. http://www.google.com/search?q=%22task+man...art=10&sa=N ) there is nothing else that supports the claims found in your source. From what I've seen, Task Manager is reporting accurately. See http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&...st&p=581316 for one example of calculating a memory usage. -
can't use the internet for any more than HTTP

Could you explain in a bit more detail? I don't see how using a new hard drive could affect the... ports. -
QFT.The rate at which computer hardware is changing is sufficiently fast that predicting even a few months ahead and attempting to "buy for the future" is just a waste of money. Of course, if you have the money...

There's nothing hard about it. Everything just fits together, and there's plenty of documentation everywhere for when common sense doesn't help. Also, you get to decide exactly what you want in your machine, and what you don't. It's also cheaper than buying a brand-name system, since with those you're mostly just paying for the name (and the components inside are usually no-name or low-end crap)You can build your own laptop, and there are parts available such as cases, mobos, screens, keyboards and such, but it's a bit more difficult and the parts are not that easy to find. Performance is not Lenovo/IBM's main goal in designing their machines. They're more oriented towards durability and 'business' use. However it's worth noting you *can* easily change the hard drive in most of the Thinkpads if you need moar storage. I find the cases of almost all other consumer laptops are inferior... thin plastic that gives easily when pressure is applied maybe even to the point of cracking. I remember picking up a Compaq or some similar laptop by the corner of the case, and I actually cracked the deck plastic (happened in a store, wasn't mine... ). IBM/Lenovo uses thicker plastic for the deck, and the Thinkpads all have a metal lid and lower body.

If the problem occurs even when on mains power, I doubt it's to do with the battery. Take the battery out completely and see if the problem continues to verify this.

Maybe, since it's attempting to detect the monitor... Just use a monitor cable with the extra detection pins cut off. Your monitor will now show as a "Standard Monitor" and there should be no more lagging at the detection.

Well, Firefox must be internally Unicode, and thus must use unicode APIs. If they'll use ANSI strings and ANSI apis, there will be much more headaches. What I meant was to have a compiler directive or something that completely changes Firefox to use the A APIs when compiled with appropriate options. What's with the popularity of all this 'unicode' anyway... even WinXP can't display multiple languages in the same dialog box using unicode strings in the resources, and it's just a huge waste of space (TWICE).

The original filename is "98DDK.EXE" and it is approximately 25Mb. If you do some Searching on the internet you will definitely find it. It used to be at http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...EN-US/98DDK.EXE but I suppose M$ removed it immediately after the end of 9x support.

I wonder if anyone even uses compressed volumes anymore

Make sure your XP CD is not damaged. What I do is burn a working copy for use, and keep the original in a safe place.

This is not a liveCD of Vista, it's just PartBE made to look like Vista.

Problems With Symantec Antivirus 2005

NOD32 v2.70.9 Beta Idle, Running in the background NOD32 v2.70.9 Beta After a Full System Scan Approx: Before Scan: Mem Usage - 23,124 MB Peak Mem Usage - 29,132 MB VM Size - 19,428 MB After Scan: Mem Usage - 43,848 MB Peak Mem Usage - 62,768 MB VM Size - 37,644 MB I'm beginning to think "Peak Mem Usage" isn't an important stat to record since it seems like an initial spike that isn't again met by the application's overall memory usage during normal operations. I was talking about v2.51. The later versions are getting worse ...and Tarun, find a more official source. A wiki with no citations, or other references just looks a little suspicious... -
Random short in the power supply causing the overload protection to activate. Clean the unit of any dust or especially metallic particles.

Hmmm.... If you are a good programmer you could have a look at FreeDOS FDISK. It is mostly done, it works (I tested up to 10GB) 10GB isn't saying much... M$'s own FDISK has a higher limit than that
-
Wow... after reading through some of the code and comments of their programmers I feel like wanting to rewrite all of it... it's as if they were coerced by M$ or something to drop support for 9x! That's a horribly inefficient and roundabout way to do it... Why not just replace PeekMessageW with PeekMessageA and be done with it? Sometimes I really do question the intelligence of these open-source 'programmers'...

110 - Clean install using Select CD On my other machine which to my knowledge was installed with the same CD as above, 100 - Clean install using Microsoft Internal

I wrote my own exact-sector copier Looks like the free version of http://www.disk-image.net/ can do everything the commercial version does except compressed images. Hmm...

Just scroll down... I always wonder if that site was purposely setup to see how many lusers would actually pay for the equivalent of scrolling down...

I think they're just doing that for the betas so everyone can try out all the different versions without having to download them separately...

The graph is very misleading. At different magnifications it looks very different. http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6613/plot1bu7.png http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/8462/plot2tg3.png
