Some general Questions about vb.net
LLXX replied to master_mtz's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
The general state of today's software is indeed disappointing.Go with C/C++. Both highly regarded as true programming languages, well-established and pretty much standard. -
Looks like M$ forced them to remove support for free accounts.But... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreePOPs

Depends what you want of the media... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-R http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD+R http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-RW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD+RW

Enough with you and your scripts... He solved the problem and posted half an hour before you.

Some general Questions about vb.net
LLXX replied to master_mtz's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
1. It is a development environment, yes.2. Express has less features than professional/enterprise version. 3. Indeed it is. This is because a JIT compiler must be optimised to compile code fast, and not compile fast code. (IMHO it fails in both aspects) 4. Any application, providing you have the time to write it (and the CPU and memory to run it...) 5. Yes, if they don't already have it. Depends what you think of a few hundred megabytes of highly inefficient code. -
I doubt IBM is going to 'unlock' it with a newer BIOS version. There should be unofficial BIOSes (modded) floating around on the Internet... it's a bit risky but is deemed the best way. If there are reports of many other users with your model that have had success, you will probably be fine too.

Just Google "data encryption program" and you'll find *many*... some are more secure than others, choose what you need.

Toner refills are cheap BTW.

Enable48BitLBA | Break the 137Gb barrier!
LLXX replied to LLXX's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Actually the first sector on which 48-bit LBA is used is 256 sectors below 128Gb. This is because the maximum number of sectors which the original driver can transfer at once is 256, and while this may lead to problems with hard drives of a size between 128GB-128KB and 128GB-512y that do not support 48-bit LBA, I have yet to find a hard drive within this (tiny) size range - not to mention that the size produced below this is 120Gb, and the size above 150Gb. LBA mode is used so CHS values are unimportant. CHS code still resides within the driver to handle legacy drives that do not support LBA commands (and thus are likely to be far below any limits). -
Problem With Https://msdn2.microsoft.com/
LLXX replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
This may be a problem with the base cryptography DLLs in your system. Have you tried reinstalling/reregistering them?BTW, here's the log of accesses to that site (lengthy!) Loose speaker connections inside? Seeing as laptops are usually moved around much more than desktops, this could be the cause.

They are essentially identical. English just has more words for the same thing. -

They might have better response times than your ISPs too... but it depends on your location and how bad your ISP's DNS are. -

Enable48BitLBA | Break the 137Gb barrier!
LLXX replied to LLXX's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Wrong. It switches over to 48-bit LBA commands when accesses are made to and beyond the 256th billion physical sector. The data loss would be noticed much beyond the 128Gb barrier. Also, if you read the previous posts I have made in this thread, that data loss is statistically a rare occurrence and only applies to specific BIOSae and hardware configurations which are not very prominent.Regarding the warning, re-read the OP again. I provide fixed versions of drivers for the replacement of an existing driver with one of exactly the same version. The newer ones are actually slightly *slower* than the original 2222 and if your disk/BIOS combination worked fine with 2222 then there is no reason to switch to a newer version to "fix" bugs which don't exist in your system. -
Problem With Https://msdn2.microsoft.com/
LLXX replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
No problem for me, but I use Proxomitron which kills SSL and encrypts the data again using its own certificate (one I made). -
In other words, the symbols would probably not work for newer versions (e.g. 4.10.2225 ESDI_506.PDR)

Symantec Ghost 8.0 (Corporate Edition) with VIA VT8237
LLXX replied to MBreckenridge's topic in Windows XP
This is because it stores registration data in encrypted format in the last 2048 bytes of the file. If you compare your new version with the one from the install CAB you will find it differs. -
...because there's very little information on it. Judging from the search results it seems to be the "click to enable ActiveX" fix. This is the best I could find:
