  1. Also note that XP doesn't seem to be able to read 1.68, 1.72, or 1.84M capacities correctly even if drive is set to 2.88M in BIOS.
  2. You are aware of the fact that posting screenshots of ClearType can't actually show everyone else what it looks like on your monitor, since CT works at the device level? To me, it just makes text look blurry and have funny colors... the sample with CT disabled looks much sharper and clear.
  3. Native of China? I recognise the idioms

  5. That's why I use the 4.2.2.* servers. Those are pretty much "official" and don't block anything as far as I could tell. Best solution short of writing your own recurser to retrieve data from the root servers.
  6. Marketing scam You can just splice the wires yourself There's also the 7 volts alternative (connect across the +12 and +5). I personally don't like a completely silent computer. It's more relaxing to have a fan softly humming in the background. Otherwise if a fan dies it's usually too late to notice.

  8. You'd try to write software that you wouldn't even use yourself?
  9. My machine still boots to a DOS prompt, and I type WIN if I want to load the GUI. I have XP on another partition and I once tried to write a WINXP.COM that would load XP from DOS. Haven't had much success though.BTW, speaking of sorts, here's something you might find interesting: http://www.frontiernet.net/~fys/hugi/compoold.htm#compo5 Definitely. The Find dialog in 9x is simple and pretty much self-explanatory. I actually found the 2K/XP one more confusing since it tries to hide some of the options (e.g. search for hidden/system files is not enabled by default, but in Win9x it follows the Explorer settings). What mods would you like in particular? We already have Enable48BitLBA and Copy2GB, even though it's not public domain yet, but I doubt M$ cares at all.
  10. It should still work... I mean, C++ is C++... what they probably meant was that you can't use their automated build scripts.

So I gave you the answer, or do you need any additional information? Petr I was asking what version number of the files are the symbols for!
  12. Do the Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock keys still respond? I'm thinking this is more of a hardware problem.
  13. That was my initial thought as well.
  14. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.avi Now look at the default value in the right pane (usually 'avifile') and find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\avifile (or whatever it was named) Ensure shell\open\command's default value is set to the path of the program that you want to use to open it, with "%1" (this is to pass the filename to it).
  15. Ghost uses a mostly generic and standard method of accessing the disks, so unless your system has a very strange setup it should work fine.
  16. -doesn't require .NET B)It looks like this software is just a clone of Windows' Task Manager, and a poor one at that.

    I meant the version number, e.g. 4.10.2222
  18. Didn't M$ stop the whole WGA thing?
  19. Wow I wonder how much better performance could be obtained by disabling most of those...

Symbols for what version of the files?
  21. ... He specifically said he wanted a batch file Try "start /?" from a command prompt to see its options, and use it to run the program.
  22. I remember a similar problem with floppy drives in the mid 80s and something called "change line support" - basically the drive isn't notifying the OS that the media has changed. The behavior you describe with the files still being readable somewhat is due to the file cache, and is perfectly normal. What happens if you try to access the old files on the new disc?
  23. Did you really check the .avi, avifile, shell/open/command keys?
  24. The first one looks nearly like XP, but it's obvious that in the second and third ones all they did was remove the skinning; as a result it looks nothing like "real" classic mode (i.e. classic start menu and all).
  25. isn't that a bit... excessive?I've never seen something like that before except in a very high-end gaming machine. The 6600GT doesn't require that much cooling either. Considered using a low-profile CPU cooler instead?
