No... I've been using 120 and 80Gb FAT32 part'ns for a few years now with no problems.

See here for similar problem: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=51386

LZH/LH7, compresses faster than RAR but size is even with RAR. (LZH is a popular archive format in Japan)

My initials (I have both a first-middle and second-middle name...)

'High "performace"' RAM shouldn't run any hotter than normal RAM, nor should they need to be fan-cooled. There has been reported many problems with the Ballistix series though...

Does scandisk report anything unusual? This looks like a problem with the cabling. Signal is getting corrupted by electromagnetic inteference. Route the SATA cable away from the IDE and the power ones.

How exactly do you define a "real operating system"? DOS qualifies as an operating system, in fact.
-
Their servers just don't support it.

Use expand command to decompress it. The EX_ is a compressed version.

Unofficial update - new version - crashed system!

That option disables registry scanning on startup... http://www.mdgx.com/msdos.htm http://www.computerhope.com/msdossys.htm -
This thread is hilarious. Shortened? Wouldn't that be "jun"? I know some users here are running 98se so that they can run "software produced in the last four years", but I'm not one of them. I'm running it so I can run almost all software produced in the last twenty years....and BTW I have a 47 year-old car that runs perfectly fine, so your analogy is flawed. If it weren't for the rarity of DOS programs, I'd still be using DOS 6.xx (most likely modified and patched) today. In fact, I still use DOS 7.1 and the command line for doing things that are better done in DOS - e.g. how do you copy all files with the extension *.doc and *.txt to an external USB drive? Two DOS commands copy *.doc e: and copy *.txt e: work perfectly and is much faster than arranging them by extension, selecting them, copying, then pasting. By using 98SE, I'm showing my reluctance to switch to something newer just because Microsoft says so. I switched to Win9x out of necessity. Not because M$ said I have to. I might switch to XP, but that may be a long time in the future... a time I hope will never come LONG LIVE DOS and WINDOWS 98SE!

What CPU are you using? AMD right? Your CPU needs a microcode update. Either get a new BIOS with new m/c update or use manual updater utility. Win2k and XP already have a later microcode update in the form of Driver.

WMP10 is noted for its extremely high utilisation of resources. Maybe downgrading to 8 or 9 may help the situation. It is most likely also a temperature problem as well. Unlike AMD CPUs, Intels have thermal protection which halves or quarters the clock frequency when the temperature exceeds a fixed setpoint. If it's idling at 60°C, when loaded by the WMP etc. the temperature rises, beyond the temperature limit, and the 3.2GHz P4 becomes 1.6GHz or even 800MHz. That may be what's causing the freezing and stuttering. If you can underclock the CPU, do so. It may actually *improve* performance since at the lower clock speed the temperature limit isn't reached and the thermal limiter doesn't get activated.

...and make use of the now-empty space left by the deleted Linux partition. Either expand your primary partition to fill that space or create another FAT32/NTFS partition there.

Be careful with USB devices. Even though they say you can unplug/plug them while the system is on, do it carefully. Otherwise it's very easy to damage the USB controller from static charge. Happened to an old mobo I had... just unplugged a cable and forever that port never worked again...

Generic cheap DDR400... surprisingly it's been working fine overclocked at 533 with stock voltage.

"Compatible" cartridges are actually better since in most of them I've noticed the ink is thinner than the genuine ones, and less likely to clog the printheads. The color might be slightly off, but for most purposes it's good enough and they're also much cheaper too. I have an Epson C80 modded with Continous Ink System... bulk ink is cheap and one bottle (500mL) lasts a *long* time especially when diluted to 10%...

If the virgin install works fine, don't update just for the sake of updating. My system has *never* given me any problems, and I've never updated since installing it, besides upgrading to IE 6.0. Use MSN messenger lower version or an alternative would be better.

It cannot be done, since switching OS requires unloading and reloading of all the system files. The machine's state must be initialised to that of when it was first started to be able to load another OS without problem. I'm not familiar with Macs, but from what I've heard most of their OS is in the firmware. That is probably what makes it possible for their architecture. With overburning, nearly 900MB of storage space can be possible on a good quality of CD-R. Also, optimisation at the file level allows such things as 10-in-1 CDs.

Memory, even VRAM, usually doesn't need cooling. As long as the GPU's being cooled and you're not experiencing any strange pixels on the screen during graphics-intensive applications, it should be fine.
-
In theory you shouldn't even need a Browser just to connect to the Internet... most ISPs these days just use a standard Ethernet adapter on the system connected to their Modem, which has built-in DHCP client. The extra "software" they provide is most of the time useless as well unless they have special network card with special drivers... since connecting itself is a "plug and play" situation.

From http://www.computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/14226.html : Most of the results returned by Googling the error message are in Chinese... so use a translator if you can't read. Also, from translated http://www.ddvip.net/OS/dos/index2/16.htm :

I think this is a Microcode Update problem. A CPU doesn't have a "driver" in its proper sense; the K6.sys and K7.sys are pseudo-drivers that provide microcode updates for the CPU. I know that on Intel boards, the BIOS loads microcode updates on startup and the updates are integrated into the BIOS. Maybe true for AMDs as well. Try updating your BIOS.

Just use another encryption software to do the encryption...
