  1. ...and I forgot to mention that iPod_Control folder is hidden... thought you already had "show hidden and system files/folders" enabled
  2. He was probably mislead by this line from the site:
  3. Bad link!! (Error 404) The files have moved to here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SEWin2K/XP have a K6.SYS and K7.SYS which updates AMD's microcodes.

    Whisky PC

Very creative "case" The tiny mobo looks cute.
  5. Virtual memory. Read section on Protected Mode in the IA-32 Intel® Software Developer's Manuals.
  6. Windows Explorer Connect the iPod, go to x:\iPod_Control\Music\ where x is the letter of the mounted drive, and in each subfolder should be your music files.

    DRM's

It depends. Just use MP3s if you want to avoid DRM issues (or convert your DRM'd files to MP3s). They don't have any DRM at all.
  8. It'll only work if the liquid crystal is not evenly distributed across the layer. It won't work if the pixel transistor itself is dead.
  9. There is no such thing as a "processor driver" - what seems to be a driver for the processor is only a microcode updater... see \windows\system32\drivers\update.sys which on my system claims to have the following microcode updates: Also see http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=44388 The microcode updates supplied with original 98se only updates Intel processors and does not support AMD.
  10. Remove all unnecessary items from your startup with AutoRuns utility from www.sysinternals.com Clearing out all the temporary internet files is also a good idea.
  11. Your SHLWAPI.DLL is outdated please install version from XP SP2 or use EXPLORER.EXE from SP1.
  12. Of course it will not be the same size... after all you're compressing the modified files.
  13. I think you mean the "boot sector", which is one 2048-byte sector on the CD, not accessible as a file. It's loaded into memory and executed by the BIOS when the CD is booted, and it loads SETUPLDR.BIN from the I386 directory and executes that.Hard disks (or emulated USB drives) have 512-byte sectors and use FAT16/32 filesystems, while CD-ROMs have 2048-byte sectors and use the ISO-9660 filesystem. The standard boot sector on the CD is written to understand ISO9660 FS, while hard disk boot sectors understand FAT16/32. However, it is possible to perform the same function, namely loading SETUPLDR.BIN from I386 directory. You're going to have to write your own boot sector to do that... and do it in less than 512 bytes.
  14. So you think an OS should always consume most of the available resources?
  15. L1,L2,L3 caches are managed by the hardware. The software need not intervene.Regarding size of cache, I have a circa. 1993 80486dx2-66 with 512KB of L2, and that was around before 98se...
  16. You seem to have the SpyAxe malware. See Malware forum for more information. Malware forum is located here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=114
  17. Heard of nLite?
  18. It is possible, under the condition: - The BIOS mounts USB storage devices and can emulate them as HDDs completely (so that programs cannot distinguish between a real hard drive and a mounted USB device). - The BIOS can boot from USB storage devices in the same way a normal hard disk can. - The BIOS hides the fact that a USB storage device is attached on the USB port. Otherwise, it cannot be possible; if the emulation provided by the BIOS is partial, you may be able to enter the Setup, but on device detection it finds the USB device and attempts to initialise it, which will cause errors.
  19. Another alternative method is to kill explorer.exe from the Task Manager, run CMD.EXE from the task manager, swap the files, and then start explorer.exe again. No need to reboot.
  20. Please read http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=66521
  21. ...and they said that Macs were "easier and more intuitive to use" than PCs... Alt+L for "@"? What is Shift+2 then? All the images of Mac keyboards I could find seem to have "@" in the normal position...
  22. What cooler are you using? A more powerful one will help lower the temps a bit, but otherwise 65-70°C at full load is perfectly fine. Intel CPUs have automatic thermal protection: if the temperature reaches a fixed setpoint (around 72-75°C) the divider will double, and if it continues to increase it will double again, resulting in 3.0GHz becoming 1.5GHz and then 750MHz. At a core temperature of approximately 120°C the processor performs a hard shutdown.
  23. What files are you trying to burn to the DVD? It looks like the error occured during the conversion to VOB format.
  24. Look here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=14050
  25. If she refuses to use Win98, give her the 98se base kernel and files with the 95 shell. The Win95 explorer.exe is actually faster and smaller than the 98 one, and as noted earlier, if the startup/shutdown screens are set to Win95 ones, she won't notice any difference (besides less crashing and more stability )
