  1. Which DOS version are you using? 6.xx has problems with disks larger than 512Mb.
  2. upx -d packed_filename.exe
  3. Look through here: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=%22vip...dex+of%22&meta= Avoid the Windows 3.11 versions.
  4. Removal Instruction: http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal:_SpyAxe_Removal

    missing XP file

Actually this might be caused by a failing hard disk... What is the exact filename?
  6. I have no idea what a "ct" is either but it can be done, simply involves copying the XP installfiles to the HDD and making it bootable. Instead of booting to DOS prompt, run WINNT.EXE instead.
  7. How exactly did you trash the filenames? WinXP isn't known for randomly renaming files during the install process... it's a filesystem corruption. This can be caused by defective HDD cabling and connection, or a defective HDD itself.
  8. Volume License edition would be very useful here.
  9. That's why you should've decrypted them and stored them that way - make backups to be safe. If the file can be played, it can be recorded. Windows Sound Recorder works quite well for this purpose.
  10. If your HDD hangs the Windows boot and makes wierd noises, attempt to make a sector-by-sector image of its data. Copying files manually may aggravate the situation.
  11. RAM shouldn't need heatsinks. PC3200 running at stock speed shouldn't get hot. I have a generic DDR400 that's been running at 533 for a few months, and even with the 33% overclock they're only slightly warm.
  12. Very useful utility. I suggest adding some more formats, e.g. - Generic Zlib/Flate-compressed streams (many "unknown" installers use Flate/Zlib compression, so this would be *very* useful) - Nullsoft Installers (NSIS) + Bzip2 and LZMA compressions - open-source
  13. Read the End User License Agreement (EULA) if you want to be really legal.
  14. Can't be used with WIN98SE - and then if so this whole point is moot - this topic is about the unofficial WIN98SE SP.... It can, with the appropriate filesystem driver. However, the filesystem driver operates above the level of the hardware driver and so is subject to its 128Gb limitation. Individual partitions don't matter. The point is that wraparound will occur at the physical 128th GB irregardless of partition size.
  15. That might just be the problem. Without an HDD driver that supports 48bit LBA, accessing the space on the drive beyond 128Gb will lead to wraparound. In this case, filling beyond 8Gb of the 40Gb partition would cause that (if they were in that order you specified).
  16. That's not how you do it. Search around these forums, the answer has been posted before.
  17. If it shuts down abruptly when a device is plugged in, the most likely cause is a short circuit somewhere. Maybe a recent power surge damaged the USB controllers in all the computers at once. Boot to a command prompt or some other non-Windows operating system, to determine if it is really a hardware problem. When you mentioned that it needed to be unplugged and replugged for it to power up again, that is a certain symptom of the PSU shutting off because of a short circuit. If the shutdown is accompanied shortly after by a sharp squealing or whining from the PSU, it's definitely a short circuit.
  18. 4.00.950B should work fine...
  19. It's a .hta script so why didn't you open it up in e.g. Notepad and examine it?The following line appears in it a few times... ping -n 1 127.0.0.1>nulI have no idea why a CAB processor would need to ping the localhost. As for "phoning home", there is one embedded URL: http://www3.telus.net/GSMJAK1E/AUABuilder/BgImgs/Hta2.ico
  20. Nero 6.6.0.3 haven't had any problems with it...
  21. Compaq? You can forget about OC'ing it. Their mobos don't have adjustable frequency and voltage, but you should look around in the BIOS setup to make sure.
  22. If it goes back down, there's nothing wrong. CPU usage is supposed to rise when you're doing something.
  23. This is the warning found in the "how to flash the bios.doc" file zipped with the BIOS update. I don't want to mess up my computer :| "DON'T FLASH FROM A FLOPPY DISK"?? Isn't booting from a floppy the standard way of updating the BIOS??Disconnect all the drives except for your boot drive and the 320Gb one, see if that helps. I doubt this is a power supply problem, 480W should be more than adequate for your configuration. The problem might be with your drive.
  24. All of the 9x series do not support the concept of services, so this cannot be done. My recommendation: Use another spyware removal program.
  25. Looks too "XP-ish" for me. Interesting project, but I prefer icons with a more "flat" appearance that matches with the flat rectangular style of the 9x GUI elements.
