  1. That's normal behaviour of XP. "Administrator" is not meant to be used as a normal account and does not appear on Welcome screen unless it's the only account and you are not auto loging. This is not the same problem as the first poster.
  2. You need to go on the manufacturer's web site to get the drivers for your specific model. Graphic, sound, network, wifi, modem drivers and others. Install them on your laptop and you'll be step further. Depending on your setup you might get online straight after that.
  3. It is well known that if you can get your hand on the WinME defrag.exe, it's far quicker.
  4. Have you ruled out network or server slowness ?
  5. -it says "start XP fromHDD2", not "install", and of course you have to have a 2nd HDD with an XP installed on it to run it. -You double posted in the XP forum, it is not clear wether you want to run XP from USB or run XP SETUP from USB. -You are mixing the difficulties with a beta ServicePack, and an nLite modified source. Did you not remove ability to install from HDD ?
  6. Hi and welcome to the forum. I hope you are not someone else posting under a new identity It is strange it's the second time in a week we see that message and the same suspect behaviour of nLite that has never been posted before. There are few things to know: -there is a nLite forum. Surely a Mod will move this over. -nLite at first did not support MCE, I'm not sure it changed (someone please jump on me if I'm wrong) -nLite does not work with a temp directory, either you let nLite copy the installation files ("the source") from a cd/dvd to a directory on the HDD and it will work directly on those files, in that same directory, suppressing some and modifying others, or you directly point to a directory on the HDD where you have those files (you copied them yourself) and the same happens. At the end of process, it will stop and ask you where (and if) to create and how to name the iso file but the new set of Windows files is already done. So I'm not sure you were "at the end and n-lite was building-up the .iso file" in which case you wouldn't ask your last question. -nLite does leave ini files in that working directory and in the nLite Program folder, not (to my knowledge) in C:\windows unless you set it as the working directory. Of course in that case, you kill your running Windows and maybe end up with a blue screen. Please tell us it's not the case. To solve your problem, maybe restart with a fresh set of files as source in a directory like C:\XPLITE\ or something.
  7. ... tweaks ... performance ... Use Windows classic folders. How long did you search ? I did ~22 seconds.
  8. Or you nLited twice in which case the last session only shows the second modification. Or you selected to not save the "last session" on the iso and a previous file remained, not overwrited but not erased either (I don't know if that would be the case though).
  9. Ask your system administrator if he agrees with it.
  10. If that is an external keyboard you tested, the internal keyboard might have a stuck key. If it's an other internal keyboard, then it's either the keyboard controler or a touchpad disfunction that is interfering with the keyboard.

    No Sound

Sure. But reading your post, how would we know ? What did you remove ? (attach your "Last session.ini"). What did you add ? (drivers, programs). What's your hardware ? (motherboard, sound card).
  12. Yoooooo, welcome to the forum ! So your first search was for "crack". Ha ha, excellent. Have more interresting things to say about that thread from august 2005 ?
  13. 1)Did it work before or are you just transfering those two drives and XPs in a new system ? 2) You say there are 2 XP installations on the IDE drive, you have to know which one is booted (tha active one obviously) and to what disk and partition its boot.ini refers for XP to start. I think that's the HALL.DLL missing cause.
  14. The ability to put your cat in your microwave is also a major potential bug. Do you have an idea how much time, money and energy is wasted in the world to protect people from themself ? The restrictions you expect from Nuhi are not even matching how nLite works now. Please just admit it, you were mistaken and still are. You still don't know what your source is, still think dlls have ben "copied to nowhere" and lost. Some programs are for advanced users.
  15. I don't really see any question in your post. How old is "old" ? I'd say the minimum usable would be ~300MHz, 64MB, 2Gig (PC from ~1998). I think CDRW install is the way to go for your testing on that kind of machine.
  16. Hi everybody, I have some old versions of PCCheck (hardware diagnostic I quite like) and a very surprising problem. That program is initially designed to run from a boot floppy (also originally including it's own OS). I've ran it on HDD booting DOS from HDD, on CD booting from CD (thus 100% read only) and hoped to be able to use it from USB key. Problem is, it loads drivers then freezes then complains two files are missing (there are about 10 files and a total of 600k, of course everything is there). Strange thing is... I boot from USB and I can launch it on the HDD or on the CD but not on USB !!?? It's not a question of folder name as I can run it from any folder, just not on the USB key. I don't want someone to spend an hour on this, I can live with it, but if anyone knows about wat could cause this and has an easy workaround and a laugh, you're welcome.
  17. Maybe you had better post this in the nLite section for more replies. If like you say you didn't touch any other option, your problem is probably caused by the use of an already modified source (starting cd).
  18. But you still have an old C:\Windows folder full of 98SE files (?)... which probably causes your probem. Maybe you could try to move that folder away to see if it changes anything. -I never heard of an MS service pack for Win98. There are "unofficial Win98SE" service packs but I guess they won't help you. -fyi, this is the "XP" forum, but surely a Mod will move this thread to the Win9x part.
  19. I doubt a virus would have incidence in Setup screen. Hold your laptop (turned off) upside down and tap all keys (not too hard) to get rid of those sandwich bits.
  20. Can you not right-click and "Disconnect" ?
  21. Unless you corrected this already, if your torrent file is in your working directory, then it's also on the ISO. I don't know if this could be the cause of your oversized ISO. Maybe you added too much drivers or addons. As suggested by Bledd, creating a new and empty directory is a better idea.
  22. From what you say and believing you know what nLite is about, I could only see two possibilities. Either -you considered C:\Windows as your source and were expecting nLite to copy the files to a temporary or "virtual drive or folder to work in" (what ever you may now call it, it's the same concept) where they would be processed. But you pointed to C:\Windows when nLite asked for "Windows installation files to be customized" (and not just "Windows installation" like you write). Here you'd just have been mistaken, but you say I should look closer and that "NLite DID ask the user to define a working folder" (not temporary! ) so I must conclude you were in the second scenario: -you had a CD as source and choosed C:\Windows as directory for your files to be copied on it, which I won't comment. I wish you good luck.
  23. More than half of the big ones looked bad. I went the safe way. For the record, the mobo is fine now but the PSU is not reliable and is it's not a standard factor (or one I that's not common), so I got a working mobo with a 1Gig Celeron. Great .
  24. Your 1st and fatal error is here. nLite does not work with a "temporary" folder, everything is done in the same folder. Also it doesn't copy the files anywhere if the files are already present on the HDD. Ignore flames from people with less than 1000 posts . Everybody does stupid things at some point, mocking people always comes back in your face when it's your turn. Now, have you already tried to uninstall and reinstall nLite so it starts without trying to catch up with the previous crash ?
