  1. If only there was such thing as a "legally downloaded XP".
  2. For info, I did and it works. I've been running mem, mobo and CPU tests for 2 hours without problem. I replaced all big and medium caps (19 in total) with a bit of patience and about 8 euro. Not really cost effective but hey... it works !
  3. I remember a few threads regarding problems when people began to use Vista but as there isn't anymore, I guess all problems have been solved. So yes, you can use nLite under Vista.
  4. Have you read the thread that say "Help: I need to Get 2GB installed RAM working in Win98SE" and is still on the 1st page of this very forum ? That'd be a good start. + "problem occurs" is quite vague.
  5. 1st, Hiren = (so obvious) warez, so please don't mention that sort of thing here. 2nd, your question has not much to do with nLite.
  6. Have you tried this one ? Desktop Computers (All Models) > Gateway GT5628 > Windows XP > Sound Downloads SigmaTel4487.exe - SigmaTel Audio Driver Version: 5.10.4487 Supports: Windows XP Note: This is the SigmaTel audio driver for the Gateway Big Lake motherboard. 1001 posts... what a waste of time !
  7. "Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Service Pack 2" ... not cumulative ?
  8. Files (other than the really LAST session) are renamed with their time extension, using 24h format (left column) do you not see that ?
  9. Yes you can. Load the "last session.ini" and a fresh set of XP files and untick what you mistakenly removed. It becomes far more complicated if you used nLite twice to further slim down, then it is not possible to come one step back. And no, there is no "option" to get a file back. For good reasons.

  11. and how does he load SATA drivers when his comp doesn't POST ?

I means that there is already some unattended settings in your source install folder. Some of them may not be supported by nLite so nLite rewrites a totally new unattended section with the info you provide and some info might be lost from the original unattended section. That's why the dot is not "just green".
  13. You don't need to extract the files. Just integrate the SP as is (.exe ?).
  14. 1) you cannot have more than 1 active partition on your disk (well, you can, but then you can't use them), so maybe this is your only problem for now. 2) how did you format them if you say your system sees them but no filesystem. I mean, is it the same XP system that formatted them that then say there is no file system ? 3) What you are trying to achieve by creating more 130GB FAT partitions (see them with W98 over network// use the disk with 98 ?) is probably not necessary // won't work. Please explain.
  15. If it happened just like that, probably yes. If you were experimenting (physically moving things), recheck jumpers and cables (at both ends) if applicable. A semi detached IDE cable is quite hard to see.
  16. Who said ? What program ? Though being a wonder, nLite doesn't do what you are thinking it does. There are some official (and non official) Service Packs for W2k, this is a good beginning. 2k threads are becomming rare on this forum but I'm sure a little search will get you further.
  17. You already posted about that a month ago in the hardware forum. Why not just post an update if any ?
  18. If you can, get a friend to get you a bootable GPartEd CD (free equivalent of Partition Magic) and create a 2nd partition on your disk. Move your data and fresh install the first partition.
  19. If it can be copied, then it's readable. There is no overall verification. Of course, the presence of the i386 folder and the files that give the XP version is checked first.
  20. ISO is not a file that you put on the cd while asking Nero to make the cd bootable. It's the whole cd image. You have to use the menu "burn image" or something like that, then you select your iso file as image to be burned.
  21. I think it comes with "Windows Classic" as desktop theme in Unattended section. I can't see any other option for that.

    nLite problems

"Have you tried turning it off and on again ?" ©The IT Crowd.
  23. Are you sure you are actually BOOTING from the CD. Excuse me for this blunt question but from some info in your post (like "Will I need to reformat the hard drive?"), it is not very clear how much experience you have with computers.
  24. From my experience, keeping your system clean will have you much more performance gain than removing as much as you can with nLite. You cannot compare a system that's running full XP since a year with tons of installed programs and a fresh nLited XP, of course there is no comparaison. But a fresh standard XP and nLited? Not much difference (I'm NOT talking "install time" here). Boot time is decreased by tweaking your BIOS as well. Performance by loading only what you need, keeping programs from "automatically update trough the Internet", having the good drivers, defrag regularly, use an antivirus that doesn't eat all your CPU time, turn off bells and wistles, clean your temp, etc. Not by removing notepad then have to reinstall Windows because you actually needed it. Unless installing on very weak hardware, getting rid of everything is not an achievement IMHO. It's been said time and time again, people should only remove what they are sure they will never use/need. The forum is full of people doing the opposite and asking for help.
  25. What did you try to achieve using GPartEd ? Did you make a second partition ?
