  1. Glad you understood and didn't take offense. I have a question for users. Would you guys mind if I moved the Start up and Shutdown logos to Main Updates. The reason I'm asking is because they are the original with just Second Edition added to them. This will also speed up installation time when choosing multiple options. On a 850mhz with 512MB Ram, it takes SP four minutes flat to install all components except for Main Updates and MDAC.
  2. Some things can stay, some things must be removed, some things are redetected leaving unneeded Registry entries. Determining which requires testing of every possible driver. This is not practical for a general purpose package. It is much simpler to remove all of them cleanly. Special situations, such as USB only Keyboard and Mouse, may require different handling, but that would not be part of a standard SP. At least not yet. Thank you rloew for explaining it. I couldn't have done it better.
  3. Oh no! Not another user with increased system speed and stability. I shall remove all of the the updated files because they serve no purpose. They are just there taking up precious space We can just do it the old fashion Microsoft way instead of the way of the geeks that we are. I'm waiting on at least two people to tell me their system has malfunctioned or slowed down due to updated files. Yes, I'm trolling and I have my reasons. When people learn how to stay in their own lane and get the hell out my way, then I won't have a reason to go at anyone. Thanks again ReK67 for testing and enjoy.P.S I hope the SP with all the updated files crashes everyone system that download it. Just kidding, I'm in a GOOD mood, so I thought I'll give you guys a hard time. Really though, enjoy and report any issues GOOD or BAD so I can fix them immediately.
  4. You can add the MSIMG32.DLL 5.0.2218.1 from WinME. DoNOT replace the original Win98/ME with the KernelEx stub version. This has to be one of the most uncommon things I ever heard, replacing a original file with a stub. Xeno86 knew what he was doing, thats why he created the KEX directory for his stubs. Original system files should not be replaced by stubs.
  5. How is this?Prerequites: Minimum 64 MB of RAM for Main Updates. 160 MB free hard disk space for (ALL) updates. Installation Guide: * = Optional. A. Install Windows 98 Second Edition (with or without 98lite).* B. Install all the latest drivers for your hardware. C. Install latest IE.* D. Install latest DirectX.* E. Install latest Service Pack 3.x (Main Updates).* F. Install USBSTACK.EXE inside the Windows\System\ directory if you want updated USB drivers.* G. Remove all current USB/EHCI drivers + controllers from Device Manager in safe mode. REBOOT! (mandatory if you install USBSTACK.EXE) H. Let all drivers redetect on startup. Plug in USB devices one at a time. If no new USB drivers have been added to Service Pack 3.x, then you only need to do this procedure (ONCE)! I. If a BSOD occurs while updating USB devices, then users need to replace only the file USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 with older version USBHUB20.SYS 4.90.3000.11, then repeat step G. installation instruction. J. Install optional components of Service Pack 3.x.* K. Install MS Office.* L. Install KernelEx, 98SE2ME, Revolution Pack.* Known Issuses + Solutions: When removing USB drivers while in safe mode, you NEED to be using a PS/2 mouse or keyboard. USB mouse and keyboard drivers needs to be deleted also. Some (Crystal CS423x) audio drivers are not compatible with Service Pack 3.x. Remove sound drivers, install the Service Pack, re-install sound drivers. 6. There's nothing to talk to him about or tell him. You don't need his permission to update this. All you have to do is a find a place to upload the file and users will start testing. Xeno86 has left a long time ago and he doesn't plan on coming back anytime soon. If you are going to based the project off his feedback, then we can call it a dead issue. He's not responding to the Win9x community.
  7. I will release 3.16 sometime soon. Right now, I'm fine tuning SP and so far I have two updated files. NTMAPHLP.PDR 4.90.3000.0 WinME CD TRIEDIT.DLL 6.1.0.9235 Windows 2000 SP4 I also had Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN Client 1.0 added but it hangs during installation so I removed it. It uses InstallShield and I used it with silent command and it still hangs Anyone that has been having sluggish, slow, system incompatibilities, BSODs, crashes, lockups etc... due to the newer files [NT/ME/2000/XP/Vista/Win7], please post here . In the meantime, I'll continue adding the latest/newest compatible files because my system rocks with them and I'm sure yours do toooooooo. Enjoy the SP

  9. I'm glad you are here. Me and many others have been trying to breathe new life in the Win9x community. We've lost many over the years and gain so few. Believe it or not, you might help be my motivation for a Windows ME SP3. Lets see what the future brings. I feed off the negative and positive. Thanks again for your interest.
  10. Welcome! Will you add actual implementation or stubs? P.S If you decide to do this, this will allow me to take U98SESP3 beyond where it is at. I could start extending the 3.x build as soon as you release a stable build in due time. This means many users will benefit from this.
  11. Me personally, I have seen some improved speed stability on my Win98 machine with the newer files. I also had a bug a while back with CHM files that was caused by MDAC Official and Unofficial. Upgrading to Some Windows 2000 and XP files fixed that problem. So I must say, the newer files has improved my system overall stability and also have fixed bugs other wasn't aware of.
  12. I asked this question a long time ago. I guess its easier to stub it out. I guess some people don't grasp the concept as easy as others. Kernel Ex is pretty stable for many users but has its bugs like any other unofficial projects on here. Adding stubs to the somewhat buggy Kernel Ex doesn't help but adds more bugs IMHO Iguess it easier to try and cover up bugs (forget about them) than actually trying to fix them.
  13. Is anyone going to try and pursue this or is it a dead issue. I have been looking into it but can't find the bug
  14. All of the files below will work just find on your WinME computer. Most of the files I use on Win98 are from Win2000 and WinXP. You can see I crossed out the not needed ones on WinME. I wouldn't try replacing these files if you are not so savvy. Hundreds of users, use these files and only a few have problems that have VIA controllers. And yes, some of the system files inside NUSB are modded, but the actual USB drivers listed below are all authentic, no mods, no patches except for the INF files which have updated drivers. 1394.INF HIDCLASS.SYS 5.0.2195.6882 HIDDEV.INF HIDPARSE.SYS 5.1.2600.5512 HIDUSB.SYS 5.1.2600.5512 HIDVKD.SYS 4.90.0.3000 NODRIVER.INF OPENHCI.SYS 4.90.3000.0 UHCD.SYS 4.90.3000.0 USB.INF USB2.INF USBAUTH.SYS 4.90.3000.0 USBD.SYS 4.90.3000.0 USBCCGP.SYS 5.1.2600.5585 USBCDC.INF USBDSC1.SYS 4.10.0.1998 USBDSC2.VXD 4.0.0.950 USBEHCI.SYS 5.0.2195.6882 USBHUB.SYS 5.0.2195.7006 USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 use WinME version if you have VIA USBMPHLP.PDR 4.90.3000.0 USBNTMAP.INF USBNTMAP.SYS 4.90.0.3000 USBPORT.SYS 5.0.2195.6941 USBSER.SYS 5.1.2600.5512 USBSTOR.INF USBSTOR.SYS 5.0.2195.6773 USBU2A.SYS 1.4.2.0 USBVIEW.EXE 5.1.2600.2180 WDMSTUB.SYS 5.0.0.6 X360C.INF X360C.SYS 5.2.3790.1830 X360HORI.INF X360MDCZ.INF X360CCP.DLL 5.2.3790.1830 X360CFF.DLL 5.2.3790.1830 X360CSA.EXE 5.2.3790.1830
  15. That because you don't have MSIMG32.DLL 5.0.2218.1 from WinME
  16. I will add Microsoft only tools. I have WDMSTUB.SYS, a few USB drivers and Adapec Aspi 4.7 drivers added and thats about it. Other tools are included in the SP but are only used for tasks. Everyone prefers their own specific software tools. I'm not the one to make their decisions, is why I use MS tools/files only. If they don't like it, then they probably shouldn't use SP3. More than 90% of SP is optional.
  17. My in-laws said they would pay for my classes. I'm not sure if this is legit. Can you guys shed some light my way please? http://www.ituniversityonline.com/
  18. SP3 does NOT change or edit any type of users profile. Its a glitch on your end.
  19. Music to my ears . The manual work around for VIA controllers is a definite go.
  20. Thank you very much TmEE for testing. This is the problem me and others have been trying to fix. Now you can use all of the updated USB files in SP3 without problems. In the meantime, always remember to install the USB package from SP3, after that replace the USBHUB20.SYS with the VIA version while already in safe mode. It will make things a lot easier. Everything should load up just fine.
  21. Replace only the USBHUB20.SYS with this version and then remove all USB drivers in safemode. http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VIA_USB2_V270p1-L-M.zip
  22. I also think depending on what drivers and controllers one installs first plays a big part in this. (Time consuming trying multiple combinations) When I had my sound card problem due to the updated windows 98 files that LoneCrusader helped me fix. I had to install the sound card drivers after I had updated the system files. Another example is Windows 2000 version of USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.xxxx, it works with some VIA controllers while it doesn't work with others. In some cases, the files are problematic and in others its the hardware. I guess we will never have a universal fix. This is probably why TmEE and a few others witness BSODs and others didn't. If people have problems with their USB devices cause by SP3, they will have to find their own solution because I'm all out of ideas. I have separated the USB drivers from Main Updates, so it can only mean one thing, HARDWARE conflict Not all files are compatible with every type of hardware. YMMV
  23. Remember not to mix SP3 USB package with NUSB.
  24. Thank you soooo much for pointing this out. When will others realize that everyone hardware is different. To top it off, it is not so much the Unofficial packs but the files inside them. Microsoft updates of bugs. I even suggested patching files because a file that may work on my system may not work on yours. I hope the OP gets his system working.
