Yes, please fix them. Thank you
-
Thanks Now that most bugs are fixed, I thought I would focus on polishing it up. I really want to fix that VIA bug. Besides that, no one hasn't had any problems which is great I think SP will be completely finished somewhere round 3.12 - 3.17 Can you guys imagine if I had stopped @ 3.0. I'm always checking for updated files, convenience, more stability etc...It will always be 3.x, even if I decide to pick it back up later. All my scripts are 3.x and icons ranging from 3.0 - 3.99 I might release 3.12 over the weekend or maybe Friday. It depends on my schedule. I have to say, it was quite a challenge, fun and a little stressful, but we pulled through.

Some more great news I was able to edit the AVI file from version 3.0 to read Service Pack 3. I thought this would be ideal because then I don't have to keep changing the version number. Here's what I did, I loaded the 3.0 AVI file in VirtualDub 1.9, save it as an animated GIF file. After that, loaded the GIF file with MSPAINT.EXE, removed the .0. Reloaded the modded GIF file back in VirtualDub 1.9 and saved it as an AVI file. I think the artwork gives it a more professional look even thought we know it not professional. If somone can be so kind and maybe replace the text Microsoft with Unofficial. I have no idea and don't want to mess with it anymore.

@ bphlpt I actually got that LOGO from MDGx site. I'm sure he would be more than happy to add the shutdown version to his logos pack. A very big thank you for taking the time to do it.

Does anyone know of a tool that will monitor System Restore actions?

Modified SYSDM.CPL 4.90.3001 for 98SE
PROBLEMCHYLD replied to LoneCrusader's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Our problem is, what changes the icon and why? Once we figure that out, I think we won't have a problem afterwards. Thanks -
I really don't understand your post The SP doesn't install any DDEML.DLL versions. I'm really not sure what your problem is Here's what SP 3.12 will have so far Added MANGAL.TTF Microsoft VOLT 1.2 Added TEMPSITC.TTF Plus!98 CD Added Original start up and shut down logos with [Second Edition]

Thank you for testing. We are working on a universal solution right now. Thank you for your patience, You can use USBHUB20.SYS 4.90.3000.11 for the time being.

This is what we have so far TmEE - VIA VT6212L Drivers not working - USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.5605, USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 Drugwash - VIA VT6202 Drivers working - USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 dencorso - Generic USB Hub Drivers working - USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.5605 Drivers not working - USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 I don't think its fair to downgrade the file to a lower version and deprive others of the newest and stable code, especially when they have not experience any problems. I also think its unfair to inconvenience users who are not able to benefit from the lastest version. That would mean everytime a new update is release, users with VIA chipsets will have to manually replace the file, which will become an annoyance. I'm hoping we can find a universal solution that suits everyone needs. As I said earlier and other may feel the same way, I prefer not to use VIA anything, if I don't have anything VIA related

Thanks, can you try this version now? USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.5605

System Restore doesn't work on Windows 98 SE
PROBLEMCHYLD replied to coolman's topic in Windows 9x/ME
If I can remember correctly, I believe you need MDAC 2.8 SP1 and WMI 1.5 installed. It works but it says "Restoration Was Unsuccessful" whenever I try to restore. I know. This is the bug I'm trying to fix. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it don't. It also depends on whats running in the background. Just be patient, I'm working on a solution. Thank you for testing. -

System Restore doesn't work on Windows 98 SE

Looks to me like your system is outdated. Yes you will need specific system files. I don't have a list, but because I use SP3, my system has all latest files, so I have no issues as far as that goes. System Restore working on Windows 98 Second Edition The WinME version of CRYPTME.EXE will break a Win98 system. This is why Win98 have its own package. System Restore working on Windows 98 Second Edition -
That's great Now that we know its possible to use the Microsoft version with VIA devices, we should look into maybe patching the latest version instead of backtracking. If it is not possible to patch the latest version, I will downgrade the file, but continue to use the newer version on my own system. The SP installs version USBHUB.SYS 5.0.2195.7006 Thanks, but all those hotfixes are already included in SP using the latest compatible files There are more Windows 2000 and XP (combined) in SP than there are Win98. Way to go MSFN. I even thought about changing the name to Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Hybrid Pack becuase it has files from almost every operating system and yes, they WORK!

Sorry guys for the inconvenience, but I forgot to change the version number in a few INF files. This only applies to some of the options installed by SP3.10. Main Updates are ok and all options should install properly now. You will only witness errors in SP3.10 depending on which options you choose. I have release 3.11 and fixed all issues. Installation time is now at 4 minutes 10 seconds instead of 3 minutes 52 seconds approximately

The Windows start menu changes to the default by design because people wanted the original icons/start banner. This is not a bug. You will need to check the box Windows Millennium Edition/Windows 2000 Theme for the updated icons, only after you have installed Main Updates. Do USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 work with your VIA chipset? Thank you very much for helping me get SP3.x stable I think 3.10 will be for many users to come.

After doing hours of searching, I think that most of the time System Restore doesn't work is because restore points get corrupted. And if one restore point get corrupted, then all of the points get corrupted. This is what causes the restoration was unsuccessful. If we can figure out why and how restore points get corrupted, we can come up with a solution.
-
Here is another crazy idea. I can remove USBHUB20.SYS from Main Updates altogether. After that, create a batch file to prompt users to install the specific version for their systems. Me personally, I'm not looking to downgrade files but I am and will be considerate of others. So far using the newer files has only increase performance because no has complained about any decrease in performance. And yes, my system flies If no option is chosen, then you will not have any USB 2.0 drivers unless you manually place the file in its respective directory. Doing it this way, the wrong driver would never get installed. I just need someone to create the batch file. Then everyone will be happy P.S Then we are back to the people who have multiple USB2.0 devices. We need a one file fits all or trouble might be headed our way Drugwash makes a good point, I would rather patch the Microsoft version thats known to work with all chipset except VIA then to use the VIA which might not work with most chipsets.
-
I have been trying to figure out the same thing. I don't understand how the MS file works with your Via but not others.
-
Me too The thing is, people who have other chipsets, will using the VIA file cause problems? All of my chipsets are intel as well. My thing is, if the VIA file is not a universal solution, then we are back to square one. It seems the MS version works with everything except VIA. At least this is what has been reported. dencorso, since you do have a VIA chipset, can you test the file for us?
-
Another possibility could be to patch USBHUB20.SYS to work with VIA. I'm not sure how to go about it but......
-
Here is System Restore on my hybrid system. It witness the same bug as in WinME and WinXP with the infamous restoration was unsuccessful I'm going to invest some time into this to prevent the bug altogether. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't. I also want to strip it down to core files only. There is no need for Help and Support center. One fix at a time
-
I'm all out of ideas with this VIA issue. If I had a machine with VIA we probably wouldn't have an issue. Since I can't test, I can't give any further input.
-
If one was to take up this task, the Unofficial Windows Millennium Edition Service Pack 3.0 could be build from the already stable Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Service Pack 3 by replacing Win98 Main Updates with the WinME Main Updates and by removing the unecessary options Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 Core Files Microsoft Agent Server 2.0 Universal Plug-n-Play Windows Management Instrumentation Windows Millennium Edition/Windows 2000 Theme Zip foldersalso adding dos mode back, patching files, logos, etc.... All other options are compatible, so that means most of the work is done. It would actually be a smaller pack too.
