In theory, I think that they could help. Not with actual speed, of course, but in enhancing the browsing experience. Which is good enough for a lot of people. Is the problem then the implementation? AKA, none of these apps really get the job done and they really are just bad softare?

They use the same power and frequencies so the range in most cases is the same. You will probably have better distance luck with B. Orinoco/Proxim. The dish will probably work better for you.

Those programs could employ several forms of wizardry to provide a snappier browsing experience. Multiple network connections DNS caching Page caching Read-ahead caching (like undeadsoldier described) Registry/system/browser tweaks So, yeah. They could improve the browsing experience. But not all programs are the same and they probably all use different techniques. And a bloated, resource-hogging app could hurt you. The questions then become how much do they help and how much do they cost. Those are up to you. Disclaimer: I haven't actually used any of those apps. This is just me thinking out loud about what they might do.

Did you remove stuff with nLite or a similar application? If so, what did you remove?

I've seen funny stuff happen like this before with both VMs installed. Try going to IE's options and look at the "Advanced" tab. Monkey around with either or both of the VM/JRE settings you find in there (depends on what you currently have installed and your IE version). This will involve rebooting a few times to get it right. Don't forget to use one of the lower IE security levels on the "Security" tab. Higher settings can hinder such things.

Yes. It blows a lot of air and the loud noise is quite surprising from such a small thing. I would prefer 3 intake and 1 exhaust in an attempt to keep the case overpressurized.

I've had pretty good luck with Vantec's products. Only one complaint comes to mind and it is a minor one amongst many Vantec products I've owned and used.

Thanks, jaclaz NT Wrapper looks great but I can't find the differences between the Lite and Pro versions. Do you know? The Lite version also comes with a neat app called SaferTray which helps keep wandering icons in the tray where they belong. I looked at that other app previously but didn't include it since it is aimed at programmers instead of users. But if you look at the comments at the bottom of the page you will see the familiar name Bilou_Gateux! I wonder if he got a copy and if it is suitable for use here? /me PMs him
