Seems that MS' "new" WSUS servers require a bit of "updates" of certain components on the Client OS, as has been witnessed as of late. No real problems until the past few months. MSFN has several Topics relating to this subject. That same WUA is the one that "solved" the XP Problem some time ago. Back to square one (for ALL OS) I guess...

(sigh...) Every single OS, Vista and up. Yay, MS! https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS16-034

Bob<->PackardBell nonsense - going from room-to-room. If you figure it out, I'd be interested. Not ready to blow up my PC's right now. Just getting used to (but not actively using) Win7(-ish).

This one is v226 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/946928 The OLD package. This one is v256 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2887535 The NEW package, containing TWO WUA installs. Unzip it with (e.g.) 7-zip and se3e what I mean. Downlevel=v256 / the OTHER one is v320, and a "system detector" Bootstrap to determine which one to install. Search for "WUWEB.DLL" (in System32 Folder) and look at the Version (right-click). If "installed" via Windows Update you'll find it in (for XP) "Downloaded Program Files" folder as well as "System32". XP isn't much different (in some respects) from Vista. What I'm saying is that you said but didn't say where it came from. Via Windows Updated or directly installed (from where)? I'd be interested to know what Version you currently have. Edit - look here (apparently you already have it, maybe?) http://erpman1.tripod.com/vsx64upd.html

And that's that. Oh, well...

[more OT] IPS v10 / IPB v10 / Windows 10 - same-o-same-o... Still God-awful at 800x600 and I refuse to go 1024x768. May as well tell Win9x users using 15" VGA to go skip rope. Oh, and screw AB+ and NoScript in older FF. [ /more OT]

Why am I getting English Menus after installing Swedish IE
submix8c replied to bookie32's topic in Windows Vista
You do realize that the Clean Install MUST be Swedish and not an "integrated" one, right? Look here - http://www.froggie.sk/en/index.html BTW, that's EXACTLY how it works. I've messed with this MUI "integration" madness for a few days (longer) out of curiosity and if the Install is not FULLY in that language, MS will ASSUME the "base" language. More info - http://windowsitpro.com/windows-client/q-where-configured-language-multilingual-user-interface-mui-installations-stored-regi Google/Bing this - vista language change Seriously, you have something screwed up. The following WIM files must be set for your language, including if you have Multi-Language DVD - BOOT (both indices) INSTALL (minimum for your Edition) The WinRE -inside- your INSTALL.WIM The "lang" folders in the SOURCES folders/subfolders are (AFAICT) for Upgrade purposes. There should be NO TRACE of ANY "en-EN" folders anywhere in your install (unless MUI DVD). I guess I have to ask - is this the case? It IS an "original" Swedish DVD, right? -
The v226 or the v256 one? You didn't say. BTW, you can extract the "v320" and use a CMD prompt run the Downlevel one with "/wuforce" parameter (guess what it means?).

[ OT (again) ] ... except I discovered you HAVE to have a "search term' whereas it USED to search ALL on just the MemberName, unless I did something wrong? [ /OT ]

Err... no. v256 is "out there" in spite of the MS link to v226 (and the associated lie) given above. They just don't make it readily known (keep reading). http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/update-repair/23382428-fc43-4a53-98d8-de27009274b0?auth=1 The above link has three files inside the EXE. One determines which of the other two to run, Win7SP1 (v320) or "Older" (v256). Check your "wuapi.dll" version. This has been discussed in the XP threads, so I will assume that the "Downlevel" program is also meant for Vista (which MS also wants to die a slow and horrible death). It seems that XP will go ga-ga if you don't have minimum IE8 and the v256 to run WU. MU is a different story. HTH

Why am I getting English Menus after installing Swedish IE
submix8c replied to bookie32's topic in Windows Vista
Your Vista is EN, I take it? -
Well, heck! I may as well blow up this install and let 'er rip! We'll see what happens. Yay for blocking the ones I don't want! Then again, this isn't Win7/8 - it's Win7-ish. (nunya...) Fat chance of GWX getting inserted... Um... on second thought maybe a Win7x64 TestBed install (as specified above)? Too much time figuring this beast out. Side note - applying updates is a hoot! Time is not on your side. I'll be drunk by the time it finishes (about midnight).

Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 driver for Windows98 (Continuation)
submix8c replied to LightAlpha263's topic in Windows 9x/ME
AFAIK, KeX will not work for Drivers. Drivers are "native" and KeX only works for Software. IOW, you need a Driver that's compatible or else make your own with a DDK. I believe you're out of luck trying to make Drivers work with any KeX as that's just a Kernel Layer and has nothing to do with Drivers. Some people have had some luck modifying INF files to "force" a driver in, but whether it would actually work with the given OS is another story. Sorry to disappoint... -
Question how to create single iso from E2B removable usb
submix8c replied to son13wo33's topic in Multi-Boot CD/DVDs
Wouldn't a better approach been make a bootable USB with G4D to dynamically "load" individual ISO files, thus having the DVD-size Images "protected"? Then only the "basic" USB stuff would be susceptible to "viruses". That's the method I used (from RMprepUSB site). Tutorial 21 and Tutorial 43... It seemingly makes no sense to "merge" all of the OS into one large ISO when one per OS would suffice. -
Question how to create single iso from E2B removable usb

FYI - Wonko <-> Jaclaz -
@bphlpt - See edited post above. Installed "clean" (SP1 already integrated) plus v320 of WUA. No problem - then again, I haven't installed any updates via WUA yet nor have I applied any post-SP1 manually. Auto-Update is "Off". So far, I've just been playing with the "base install" before I go full-on "keeper". https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2887535 It appears that the "newer" one (KB3083710) is tagged "7601" and contains several other files to "fix" your WUA. Two CAB files inside it, one "bumps" WUA, the other (apparently) "patches" WSUSSCAN. Maybe a subsequent update (that I haven't yet installed) "breaks" it?
-
Per dencorso's post above, it seems that the x64 OS are unaffected by the need for KB3102810 (not needed) but the x86 ones are (needed). IOW, x86 goes haywire if you don't install it but the x64 could care less and are unaffected. I will consider thsis a 32-bit "bug" that MS was kind enough to introduce into their new Windows Update (WSUS) Servers. I have tested this "theory" recently. YAY MS! Edit - Install "clean" plus WUA v7.6.7600.320.

Ahhh! Holy squat! I'm off the XP/FFv12 and now on Win7(ish) and IE9! Main board is entirely different. However. this foobar still exists. Is this some "setting" in my Profile? Side note: Also the "Logon" from main p[age is ignoring (rather disabling) untick of "Remember Me" and tick "Anonymous". The "EDit" function will NOT "save" but DID allow "Cancel" this time! The Board Software must hate anything less than IEv999 and FFv777! EDIT - Figured out the diff between the two. Seems the Board (and BTW other Board "upgrades", e.g. Twitchy) apparently don't like 800x600 (my preferred). I'm now set at 1024x768 and the results are the same. Still, the other items (my problems, I guess) remain. So, it looks like my eyes are goung to get whacked out with the squinting to see itty-bitty letters. Pretty sure xper can relate...
-
(sigh...) Now I can't Edit! It's ignoring me for "Save"! I have NO OTHER Edit options (anyway, now) except for the "basic" ones in the Gray Bar. This one gives a Gray Bar and everything is there!
-
Again, xper, its empty at my end. Totally blue. No member name, no date/time, no nothing. FireFox v12. Even with every single "blocker" disabled, no difference. I posted a screenshot (my end) in the Locked Topic.

Where's "help"? When I made posts in this topic - I was able to get a (sort of) "more options" screen (like before) to (kind of) format. but then I realized a couple needed edit. From that, there was no "more options" and couldn't seem to find any other formatting options except the ones on the "bar". I really would like to "fix" it so it looks "purtier" and with the same fonts throughout. Also, still nothing but a pretty blue "bar" above the posts (I had provided a screenshot already). Also, this computer (or any of my others) aren't Surfaces with Win8/WinX on them. Nor is it an Android or iPhone that I can swipe or TXT with.

"TermSrv" isn't part of the RDP package, although it may use it. The "patch" will apply to any/all connections regardless (AFAIK). Also, I'm male, but you may call me "dear" if you wish.

= Installation Steps (meat and potatoes). Perform Step#1 thru Step#10 of the following link. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/windows-7-clean-install-part-1.htm - STOP! - Do NOT delete any partitions! NOTE- Q- Why was the above link given instead of using next one? A- Simply to provide a screenshot of what pre-existing Partitions would look like (the next link shows an empty HDD). Exit the above link and go to this one to continue. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html Skip past Step#1 through Step#7 (ref. previous link) and go directly to Step #8. Observe the "Note". This is what we'll be doing. 1. Select the LARGEST Partition. It should be Partition #3. 2. Click on "Format" button. If confirmation requested, do it! The above prepares the Original C-Drive for Installation. DO NOT touch the FIRST TWO PARTITIONS in any way! These two have been described in “Preamble” above and backed up during “Preparation”. Proceed with Step#9 through Step#21. DO NOT do Step#22 (“Activate”) at this time. Remember, your Internet Access is Temporarily Disabled. -WARNING- I HIGHLY recommend your creating a User-ID THE SAME NAME AND PASSWORD (if any) of your ORIGINAL Vista one to prevent any confusion during restoration of Backed Up Personal Data (done during Preparation). -WARNING- Go to this page to see how to get to Automatic Update Settings – http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-automatic-updating-on-off#turn-automatic-updating-on-off=windows-7 TURN OFF Automatic Updates to prevent being interrupted during Driver Updates. Install any/all Drivers that “Device Manager” indicates are missing that you obtained from “Preparation Step 1”. Reconnect to your ISP (reverse Preparation Step#4 action), whether Network Cable or Turned Off/Unplugged Modem/Router. IOW, put it all back to before disconnecting. Go to this page to see how to Manually Check For Updates – http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-windows-updates Do it and DESELECT EVERYTHING except for any Updated Drivers and allow it to Install them. Note that there are TWO sections – Deselect ALL in BOTH sections and Re-Select the Drivers ONLY (second section)! Go BACK to this link – http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html and perform Step#22 (“Activate”). Go BACK to “Windows Update” and install ALL Updates in the FIRST section. Disregard the Optional in second section. Repeat several times until no more Updates are offered. -Note – You may install Optional if you wish, but be aware that they’re not necessary at this time. Re-enable “Automatic Updates” if you wish (set it how you want it). Restore your Backed Up Personal Data by reverse of whatever means you backed them up. Reinstall any/all Software that you have Backed Up and wish to use again. Congratulations! You’re all done! Have loads of fun enjoying your brand new Clean Install of Windows 7 and all the excitement for customizing it all over again like you had Vista set up!
