  1. Followup (re - Archive Web Pages) - Real sad! They reference Win9x so they got "tossed". I have the XP pages and will get the EIGHT pages for Win98 (probably good for Win95/ME as well). THIS is the sad part! It's basically "Local Connections For Dummies" and reinforces ALL of the Sharing Rules that have been repeatedly described but in detail. The only difference (AFAICT) is that it describes "Host" and "Guest" but does go on to describe Bi-directional Connections. Proceeding to collect Win9x pages... Will post (if no Super/Mod cares) elsewhere. (Why? It looks like all you need is a bi-directional connection...)
  2. Please bear in mind that "Windows Easy Transfer" XP-and-up version is an offshoot/upgrade to the PURCHASED version. Microsoft killed the below-XP Software (see link I gave above about the "acquisition"). The Software is what utilizes the connections, kind of like the "old-fashioned" "Direct Cable Connect" with Serial/Parallel connections... See the Wiki-Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_cable_connection Also note MS "killed" the DCC link to - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814982 Still available at - http://web.archive.org/web/20080103195201/http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814982 (among the other "killed" links of a multi-part KB article...) Hmmm... think I'll archive it myself... They WANT you to use their "new improved" version... I seriously doubt finding anything more than the "last available pre-MS" version... HTH
  3. 1 - Microsoft uses Akamai Servers 2 - Likewise, "Supremus" is the connection to WUD to check for an Update to your "UL" file. There is no problem with these connections. They are legitimate. edit - to clarify - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System http://www.howstuffworks.com/dns.htm HTH
  4. BWAHAHAHA! Wasn't "biting" anything - it was obvious based on the simple "cpuworld compare". (witness the Watts, FSB rqmt i.e. RAM-speed, extra L3-Cache) The point was some have no $ for a complete system build. If I had the $ I would recycle my E521 and build a Quad Core system. I've been using for the last 3 yrs the PC-Chips listed in the "Greater than 1GB" topic. Good thing Goodwill has a "used computer parts" shop inside - just bought a DVD Burner w/LightScribe+DVD-RAM for $5USD and didn't even have to wait for delivery or pay for it. RE - "Potential Buyers" - some just aren't bright enough to "build their own". I see Craigslist "gamer-built" PC's for cheap all the time and nobody wants them. Yes, I CAN get $125USD for my "stock" E521 (Tower+DVD's) - already seen that. I will refuse to sell it w/ 2-320GB-HDD (upgraded) + Full-Multi-Burner (upgraded - not HD/BD) + PCI-e-Video (not yet obtained) + AMD5600 (not yet obtained) because the "standard buyer" is clueless as to "upgrades" and assumes "stock". and would therefore want to pay no more than $125USD. A "keeper" (gift from cousin) cheaper to "upgrade" (traded "parts"->HDD's). Heck, I even have an exact spare Mobo (free from brother - came w/Dual-Core3800 as opposed to "stock gifted" single-core)... Guess I got lucky on this one too (free mobo - eMachine w3650 then free "aftermarket" box from recycler dude) - http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ECS/945GCT-M3%28V3.0%29.html <-No buyer would pay more than $75->$100USD even after built/re-assembled (currently Celeron 440). RE - "Server" - the price of Business Class ($) is through the roof, so a slower Upload Speed for "Home Class" is for the penny-wise/broke folks. Besides, I can "share" whole live band recordings (I made them during gigs, BTW) with friends/relatives without having to create a "free file account" (limited file sizes) somewhere. KEEP IT and load it unless you're hard-up... Hope you get my point... B) (back to sorting keep vs recycle - need the room space...)
  5. You specifically said "slipstream"... are you SURE you mean that or do you mean something more like automatically "finding" them during Install (MSBATCH.INF method)? edit - Option#1 is (normally) SOP for OEM's. Above is "alternate" method...
  6. So we have to "search" for specifics? APPARENTLY a Laptop? MAYBE one of these? http://www.amazon.co.uk/SATA-Laptop-Hard-Drive-Controller/dp/B004DNS6DS How about some specifics? (Crystal ball out being cleaned...)
  7. ? http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron_Dual-Core/Intel-Mobile%20Celeron%20847.html http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_D/Intel-Pentium%20D%20820%20HH80551PG0722MN%20%28BX80551PG2800FN%20-%20BX80551PG2800FT%29.html http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/800/Intel_Mobile_Celeron_Dual-Core_847_vs_Intel_Pentium_D_820.html (The above compare MAY not work for you?) From that point of view, yeah, I suppose so... But if it's a "keeper" and you can't sell it to buy all of those wonderful parts (some assembly required) you could just get one of these off of eBay - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_D/Intel-Pentium%20D%20840%20HH80551PG0882MN%20%28BX80551PG3200FN%20-%20BX80551PG3200FT%29.html I build mine "one part at a time" from local Used Parts/Goodwill/etc... (sigh... this could go on fo-E-vah!)
  8. Sorry, but you get no homework help here... Read the MSFN Rules (link above). IF the Files are still available, just Binary Compare Originals with Modded ones. Other than that, you're on your own (do your own homework). Google capstone project
  9. To clarify your BIOS Settings post above with reference to the translated Korean page... NOT "Default Original" and "Optimal". Note that the word "Default" is beneath a Column labeled "Step 1" and the words "Original" and "Optional" are beneath a Column labeled "Step 2" and notice the Description for each. With "Optimal", all ATA Connections will be set to Auto, meaning YOU don't change and IT will "detect". IOW, it WILL detect the HDD and CD-ROM properly. Notice the other "adjustable" options - When you OVERRIDE it (i.e. NOT "Auto") then YOU must supply the correct setup. For the "Legacy USB" it ONLY applies if you have a USB Mouse/Keyboard instead of PS/2. Standard Default in nearly all Computers is PS/2 (except those not HAVING PS/2 ports) and is Normal, usually ONLY manually changed when the person that purchased it also purchase a USB Keyboard and/or Mouse which are/were not provided with Original Purchase - Normal. I can (nearly) guarantee that if you have PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard and use the "Optimal" and save it then the next time you enter the BIOS the "Original" and "Optimal" will be identical. P.S. Your HDD's should be set to "Auto" anyway - that's what the "normal and Standard" way of setting them up is. Oh, and fair warning. If you change any connected ATA device you had BETTER reset the Devices because the last setting (e.g. for PREVIOUS HDD of different size/type) is "stuck". Trust me on this - brother had one of those "HDD Trays" to swap HDD while turned off and you HAD to cause it to "re-find" the devices when Power On. (Very weird...)
  10. 1 - Bad Cable and/or Cable Connection 2 - Something still not set correctly in TCP/IP 3 - Router? Check Settings...
  11. I'd venture to say - Trojan/Virus starting up and "eating" your CPU cycles since Safe Mode is fine... 1 - Safe Mode With Networking 2 - Get MalwareBytes, install, Update, and Run it (Full Scan). If you DO need to Reboot, always use "Safe Mode + Networking" until MalwareBytes finds NOTHING then attempt to Normal Boot. Side Note - Repair Install will sometime NOT rid you of Malware as it is "hidden" in another file and Registry Entries is firing it up during StartUp.
  12. @puntoMX - It just got a little chilly in here (that's cold!). No assembly required?
  13. April 23, 2013 – Updated to reflect –X- Drop IE6 Support and use IE8 instead. (Footnotes 4 ,5, and 6 are now obsolete) Inserted “Make ISO” during nLite. Resequenced and cleaned up a bit.
  14. Starting to come back to me... I don't see any "Boot Sequence" definitions? AFAICR, using the "Auto Detect IDE Devices" (when "Standard Setup" set to "Auto" if possible) allows the BIOS to look at the Device and set parameters accordingly. As for CD-ROM being listed, I can't actually remember, but I believe it needs to be or else the CD-ROM drivers need loaded in Win9x. It seems I remember that using the "Auto-Detect" that it wouldn't "stick" unless you Saved -AND- Exited. BTW, how do you "Save"/"Exit" - a Function Key(s) or a Screen Selection? Would it be possible for you to press the "Pause" Key when you first turn on the PC or in the BIOS Setup Screen to get the BIOS Version/Identifier? It would help in determining a BIOS update. You may need that to support (e.g.) larger HDD or faster CPU. Look here, scroll down to "Florida-TG" for "examples" of what you should see - http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/trigem/bios/list.html Notice to all - This info accurately provided will/may assist others with older eMachines (and maybe Gateways) in the future. edit - AHA!!!! Confusion OVER!!! Take THIS Link, insert into the NEXT link and set "From Language"="Korean" for translation! Voila! Your BIOS Settings! http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/TriGem/profile/FLORIDA-C/FLOC_cmos.htm http://translate.google.com/ I'm trying to get it into some kind of "stored" format now... Florida-C/Florida-TG BIOS Settings (4-page PDF) attached. Florida-C+Florida-TG BIOS.zip
  15. Hint - if the "Utility Partition" is within "Megabytes" then it's obvious it does not contain any "Restore/Recovery" Images and had to have been on a separate partition. It's possible to "create" a "DellUtility" from downloaded (from Dell) Programs that don't contain Restore functionality. I've already tested this and will gladly provide the file names - no special MBR, just the DR-DOS(?) PBR and associated "testing" software. It works with the special "Fx" key AFAICR. The OP has never said if this Server was purchased NEW or not. As I had previously stated in other threads, the "Restore DVD" and "Driver DVD" Dell supplies does not require any "special" partitions or MBR any more than the "Utility Parition", which can be created before the OS Install. The question remains - Can the OP Fully Restore to Factory from the HDD? If not, then you have ONE of your answers.
  16. And for more info - "Understanding Disk Partitions" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd799232%28v=ws.10%29.aspx Scroll down to "UEFI-Based Computers" (the MSR partition). You might want to retain the others as they appear to allow for putting back to Factory (in case you want to sell it?).
  17. ? I wonder what's going on? http://www.mdgx.com/credits.htm Bottom only says "©1996-2013" so MAYBE he's just very busy and revamping??? This one has an "Updated March 13, 2013" in it - http://www.mdgx.com/31.htm so...
  18. I HAVE to chime in! ( sorry - ) Please bear in mind the difference between "Utility Partition" and "Recovery Partition". They may or may not be the same partition. It has yet to be ascertained if the second truly exists in order to (e.g.) "Restore To Factor" (from some sort of Images) -AND- are one and the same. AFAICR, just the Partition Type is necessary for the BIOS (the F-whatever key) to boot to it, with or without the MBR code. I'll be glad to prove that "theory" with my Dell if you wish, but I DO believe I did that with my Brother's Dimension 4600 using it as a LiveXP/Recovery Solution (from the BBS Selection). How ODD that it was a Clean Install/Setup and used the Standard XP MBR, only having Type=DE in the first Partition (the Second as the "Standard" Type=07 Bootable) and WORKED. Don't confuse the two or the ABSOLUTE necessity of the MBR code to access it. It may ONLY be needed IF Recovery is possible. Easy enough for the OP to prove by backing up the Sector(s), using the MBRfix to "replace" it, then attempting to Boot to it via the BIOS Selection. IF it works, then the MBR has absolutely nothing to do with anything and IF there is absolutely NO Recover To Factory available then it becomes a moot point, not so? (You can ALWAYS put the Original MBR back.) I shall now again bow out...
  19. Well, I'll be flipped! Just used it Sep.12 last year. I have them FWIW... Google gives a website for the "full" one BUT it has "other" stuff so that's up to you (not giving link...).
  20. Try here - http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#OS1 Bear in mind the above note on "Fix95CPU"... ALSO be aware of pitfalls for the USBSTR95. edit - relevant threads links given in above link...
  21. 1 - There will be a marking indicating which end Pin#1 is. Then (obviously) the others a in a row, Pin#2 and Pin#3. If in doubt, WITHOUT the Add-In Video card -AND- the OnBoard is functioning -THEN- you now know which one is Pin#1 (see Manual). 2 - re - BIOS settings - Didn't I say there should be one or more Function Keys indicated in the BOTTOM of the Screen (or in the Main Screen) that tells "Setup Defaults" (preferred) and/or "BIOS Defaults"? This/these (basically) RESET it to "factory". BIOS - let's step through them now that we know what they are. --- *** This must be the Power Management Screen? 22. Methinks Hoko isn't reading the Manual... There IS a PDF version of that document http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/125/Florida-TG.pdfJust in case Hoko doesn't have MS-Word/WordViewer.
  23. From the Florida-TGA Docuument Otherwise, they are physically the same. 466is is a Florida-TG. To confirm, look at the Chip for the Sound in the place on the Motherboard that your Florida-TG Document says it's at.From the "elhvb" website (link previously given) If all of this is confusing you, look here - http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/audio/OS21.html You will have to "physically" (visually) confirm your Chip Name.
