Sadly, I have NO ACCOUNT anywhere. The CD is approx. 377mb and contains a folder called "Goodies" (approx 280mb) which INCLUDES (AFAICT) - - Adobe Reader v7 - Alternate Installer (Alohabob.exe - 68mb) - contents has a program "PCRACTIVATE.EXE" --- Google finds Keys (whatever) for older versions --- Release Notes says "Version 6.2.9.1" --- Driver Folder in the INF "WinDrvr6.inf: Jungo WinDriver v6.2.2 Installation file" --- (etc etc) - Blancco Data Cleaner - IE 6.0.28 (???) - MS Office (NOT the Product) - 97+2000 Service Packs + MSICUU (Win2k) - MSI - 1.1 / 2.0 / 3.1 - OE5 RegClean - PC Backup Lite (another one of the Manuf. products but Lite vers.) - A folder w/the Win95/NT versions of MSICUU.EXE - "Other" stuff (folders specific to PC Relocator) "Readme" says "For convenience only". Odd that all of that is ther - must have had a Distribution Agreement. The BASE CD Install (excluding the Goodies) for the Software has the Driver INF stating "Jungo WinDriver v6.2.2"... So... what are the Options on this? Seems a shame that this would "disappear" into the ether if I don't make it to Retirement. The ONLY thing I could possibly do would have to be PRIVATE by "other means"... We're treading on dangerous grounds... ANd I'm REALLY unsure if this would work with other cables. One might "assume" that it would since the Driver seems to be from "jungoDOTcom"... ...and almost wish I hadn't brought it up. !!! "Jungo is now part of Cisco"!!! (go ahead, go to the website...) Further info (inspecting the Driver Folder) - Jungo "windrvr6.sys" (google that) appears to be a "generic" USB and ANOTHER "EWUSB.INF" seems to be what the Vendor used. ; Installation file (.inf) for USB Bridge Cables ; Portions Copyright (c) 2004 Eisenworld, Inc. ; Portions Copyright (c) 2004 Prolific Technology, Inc. ; Portions Copyright (c) ALi, Inc. <snip> [DeviceList] "Alohabob USB Bridge Cable"=Install, USB\VID_067B&PID_0000 "Alohabob USB ALi Cable"=Install, USB\VID_0402&PID_5632 <snip> [Strings] jun="Jungo LTD." Mfg="Prolific Technology, Inc./ALi"The SOFTWARE appears to create "xxx.DMV" files that can be "browsed" and specific files extracted (similar to Ghost Explorer). I REALLY don't know how MS (or MSFN) would feel about this since they BOUGHT them out (not Jungo, but the Software). In addition (inside the Driver folder) are several EXE files - google wdreg.exeto see what "they" do. Zipping the USB folder (JUST the Drivers/EXE's) amounts to 313kb...

? You DO (also Video - must be PCI - not seen in Picture)??? AFAICR, you can add another VideoCard and MAYBE another SoundCard. The OnBoard Video has a limited amount of RAM so it does kind of stink. I THINK I had done that on a 533id (can't remember...). Will check to see how the OnBoard gets Disabled, if at all. If NOT, you'll (probably) have to select WHICH Device you'll be using ATM. Others may chime in on this particular subject... edit here for looked at Document - Jumper J1 will Disable On-Board Video. You'll need the Win95 Drivers for WHATEVER Add-On VideoCard you put in... As far as Sound, I'm pretty sure you can have BOTH if yu REALLY want to and just select the appropriate Device in (various) Managers. Also APPEARS that to use OnBoard Joystick you need an Add-On Cable. Not sure if that USB Header is for an additional USB Connector or not (see page #12). Start without extra Add-On Cards and work from there. You MAY not need them, depending on what you intend to do with the computer. You ARE, after all, installing Win95 on it...

@jaclaz - TOTALLY insane (I have grandkids "permanently" living with us)... IF this is "useful" info perhaps the FULL instructions from Fred's website should be gathered (assuming he doesn't care) for step-by-step into a separate topic and "Stuckied" somewhere. edit - forgot to mention - I had left that other Topic subsequently untouched to prevent further "hassle"...

Never thought about it before even after I had been (kind of ) following this Topic...It just so happens I have an Alohabob USB Cable with the "PC Relocator Easy Transfer" v6.x software/drivers (Eisenworld) on CD. It HAS the Win98 USB Files on it! Thrift Store around the corner $0.99 in the box! In addition, I found THIS which clearly indicates that MS PURCHASED this bad boy and (apparently) continued development and DROPPED Win9x (see link within Drugwash' link)! The original Websites are apparently shut down (since MS bought them out). edit (followup) - Yep, more info here. I have no clue as to what good it is without corresponding software. Mine is apparently only for 9x/XP... Any further interest in this, or is it currently irrelevant?
-
If the Update "MSP" files work the same way as Office 2007 (in a separate sub-folder), then NO, since they will "install" AFTER the Base Install.

It's (as I said) the TV... You apparently don't have a "real" VGA to test with? AGAIN, there are two things involved here - "EDID" and the TV Settings (in the actual TV "Setup" screens - NOT the PC!) - go back and look at the links I provided in reference to a TV hooked up. AGAIN, I use(d) REAL SVGA Monitors (the BIG BULKY Picture Tube type)... And there IS a Setting in the BIOS to tell WHICH one (OnBoard or Add-In) to look for FIRST! Swap them...

Guess I, too, (at least on THIS ONE SUBJECT) owe an apology also. Caps_Buster, it might ALSO behoove you to not argue so much. The resolution to your problems may come much quicker. Good find, Dencorso! Good luck, Caps_Buster! (today is emoticon day...)

(sigh...) Not to be a "nag" BUT!!!! THIS one! Just download it, DOUBLE-CLICK it, it will ask WHERE to Unpack it to, and will proceed (AUTOMATICALLY) to run the Install (UNLESS you CANCEL the Install). I actually RAN and UNPACKED it on my NTFS (XP/2K3) OS and CANCELLED the Install (didn't I say that?). The files are currently sitting inside the FolderName I gave it to Unpack to. It is the OFFICIAL from ATI one (see the link?)!!! I had gotten it a LONG TIME ago when ATI was NOT owned by AMD! I have USED this one BEFORE!I had ALSO stated that I (maybe) have (on my HDD) the CORRECT files for your Sound. AFAICT, there are TWO chips for the SOUND - the CS-chip and the AC97-chip. I actually used the PW4031.ZIP file - you MUST UNZIP IT!!!! Get 7-zip and install it THEN Unzip! Point to the Folder and-or (whatever).INF EDIT!!!! OW-EEE! I just noticed your FIRST PICTURE has an Add-In ISA SoundBlaster (of SOME kind)! That complicates the Sound matter since the OnBoard is what we're also battling! Edit Follow-up - WHY is that site suggesting a CS-46xx Sound Driver when the MANUAL states "Crystal CS4280 PCI audio controller"? Even CRAZIER is the fact that it's providing a Win98 driver NOT Win95! Going to the Website Jaclaz provided, SCROLLING DOWN you see the Win95 one (for DIFFERENT chip)! FOLKS WE ARE CONFUSING THINGS BADLY!!! Lets work on the VIDEO first! Leave the Sound ALONE for now! ANOTHER EDIT!!! AHA!!!! All of the OTHER files for the CS4280(Sound)/CS4297(Codec) are WRONG and are for CS46xx-series for Win98 and UP! I have on my HDD the EXACT Win95/Win98 Drivers in a Package for YOUR EXACT SOUND HARDWARE! I'll see if I can find where I got it from. FOUND!!!! Get the SMALL (second 1.1mb) one - the BIG (first) one is for 98/98SE/ME http://nas.wowunix.com/down/Driver/audio/crystal/cs4280/GUARANTEE this is the correct one! It's called a "Crystal Sound Fusion". But you SHOULD pull the ISA SoundBlaster Add-In out.

No, Sir! If you ran -X- Script you have THE Latest "Microsoft Update" and may NEVER be updated again for XP. This also happens to be, BTW, the LATEST for Windows& as well. Your "WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution" sub-sub-folders may have corrupt contents. Here's a script that may/may-not work (it looks a bit overkill) - http://www.lansweeper.com/forum/yaf_postst6506_Reset-Windows-Update-Components.aspx Note that it deletes the CONTENTS of the named folders (where your problem MIGHT be). It harms absolutely NOTHING to clear them out - they are, in essence, dross taking up valuable space. HTH

The following was kind of OT, but the point remains that older hardware functions (more or less) fine with an older OS (with our support, of course) as already stated. Your point of Rendering, however, is well-taken. The CPU is a tad "slow" but the RAM would be sufficient for utilizing XP. P-III @400 implies Katmai, max of 600mhz (SECC Slot-I) so since hard to find not worth upgrading further. I'm not really sure how well it would perform with "modern browsers" (e.g. IE8), bearing in mind the Original Minimum Hardware Requirements (roughly matches the IE8 requirements).XP will no doubt be "kept alive" well beyond it's expiration date. Google windows xp market share 2013indicates roughly 39% still use it now, trailing Windows7 and leading Vista and Windows8. We'll be fine. Bear in mind that Windows9x was a die-hard. AFAICR MS literally had to shut off the MS Update to "make them go away" (not!). Even IE6 was still update-able during and beyond that.

OK, fine (re - Post#70)... 1 - Did NOT specifically state Win9x, only INITIALLY posting about JRE6 (ANY OS!) It did NOT include JRE6! 2 - "Further Vulnerabilities" - including the INITIAL one? 3 - You're correct, good snark (again...). 4 - GOOD, because that's the SOLE REASON I revisited this Topic. 4a - I posted #66 because of it. 4b - Nice snark in post#67, I never suggest that - there's one named that already. 4c - Post#68, Point #2 - by implication does NOT include Win9x (see #1 above). Do you wish to dispute that? Do you have ANY JMX/BEANS INSTALLED (see my FIRST POST on the subject at Post#5)? (Thought not because you did NOT read the links closely...) SERIOUSLY, I tracked it down BEFORE posting that to CONFIRM a "Dire Warning" was JUST a simple "RUMOR".As for the Firefox "blocking', one might wish to visit http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java -AND- https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting/PluginBlocks#Java hence my subsequent Post#7. Now, as FOR that "block" it involves Click-To-Play DO YOU HAVE FF17 INSTALLED IN WIN9X???? (AGAIN, thought not...) NOT EVEN WITH KEX! Googlekernelex site:msfn.org "firefox"So... what's the MAX version of FF that works? You all should do a little research before disputing facts instead of accepting unfounded rumors. Please, DO, give me proof that the INITIAL "Dire Warning" (u37/u38) indeed applies (even with KEX). You had NO NEED to be snarky at ALL ("new topic") with an UNFOUNDED! SEE POST #16! (Good God!!!)As for successfully installing the "latest-greatest" to overcome NEW vulnerabilities (request at Post#3), my wholehearted congratulations to any/all involved and look forward to a NEW AND SEPARATE Topic (not named "missing dll"). You could even say the the TOPIC TITLE is a misnomer due to the fact that it (initially) does NOT apply and that it changed into "How-To". Want to go another round? ("Dire" indeed...) (AND we should BOTH drink less caffeine.) http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/3235.html

According to Wiki (yeah, I know...) the last supported version of DX was v8.0a. I'm not really sure "cheating" the "wme-j5" INF would successfully function. Oldapps (you can download them from here also) syas the same thing (text from Wiki?). HOWEVER, strange as it seems, Brothersoft (don't bother downloading from them) states Win98/ME but in the Descriptive says "Last one for Win95". Just curious - have you installed DirectX on your box before attempting install of the Drivers? You could TRY the DX8.1 and the "wme-j5" file -OR- (failing that install) try again with "DX8.0a" and the file I provided. The Rage, according to (yuk) Wiki utilizes (minimum) DX6, which is also what I seen inside of the file I suggested. You will NEED DX installed (preferably either one of 8.0a or 8.1 whichever works) in any case before the Video Driver is installed for it to properly function. Side notes - googling directx 8.1 "windows 95"generally indicates that it's NOT to be used on Win95, but instead Win98 and up. Hacking the "wme-" one MIGHT work (REALLY about that)... I think I ran into this before with the Rage Chips and Win95 (all of those OLD mobo's are long-gone)... That particular set of Drivers has a REAL "generic" set of VID/PID for the "Rage Pro Turbo" (two BIG lines in "ati9xae.inf" - "subsys" portion truncated off). You can check the contents of the one I suggested by simply running it to the "unpacked" (you can choose a directory) then cancel the "install". HTH (a bit more...)

You don't get it - INF files are "altered"... TWICE (and maybe wrongly)... Google this and get some hits for your "problem"... sas raid intel site:msfn.org Dell must be a PowerEdge. (google'd -) sas raid intel dell You don't want any help, do you?

DriverPacks FAQ - "Can I install DriverPacks with nLite?" http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=3615 P.S. - Do those topics not speak of R-A-I-D also? Your OEM DVD has them PROPERLY integrated (my E521 DVD does too...). edit - no matter - searched "sas raid intel" and it COULD be one of several AND you NEVER mentioned WHAT Dell and/or whether it was an Add-In card (I noted you "looking" at Intel topic).
-
Pick one - Depending on your ChipSet. AGAIN, the "DriverPacks" do NOT account for an "F6"-type Install. They don't admit it and "poo-poo" nLite as "failing" because of THEIR error! The above do (TXTSETUP.OEM = F6)! Believe it or don't! Your option... (you are REALLY stubborn...)
-
AHHH!!!! Silly me! I think you're right. It appears that something may be failing (hardware, reading the CD, etc)... You could ATTEMPT to Fdisk/Format the Drive/Partition and manually copy the Win98 folder to the Partition, switch to it and try to install that way. At least that will confirm that the Install files are really and truly available in case the reading of the CD is "glitching" you (read speed, whatever). I've had that happen before to me... Your Compaq - Your MoBo... some hardware has obviously been changed in it. If the CD Drive was also changed ("upgraded") it very well could cause some problems (as I had before, same situation). Older Compaq's are touchy beasts, including the RAM (VERY touchy, usually must MATCH the Required Specs or just get "lucky")... AAAAND some specifics (in case you didn't pop the case off) here. 2200-Series (pick yours) here. Found this with a bit more info. VERY much looks like you need PC-66 or PC-100 (PC-66 compatible) RAM. PC-133 may bust you unless it, too, is backwards compatible. (sigh...) "MoboKiver" elhvb has this info.

DUH!!! Yeah, that one. Finding a good one for Win95 will be interesting (from that link, and Thank You for it). The one I cited has "macxw4.inf", nearly all files dated 1998, partial contents... and APPARENTLY only cares about DX6 (and up?). According to this it was preinstalled with Win98FE. That would just about match with what I have. It APPEARS that file "w82560en.exe" is the "correct" one (for that era) and is slightly "newer" (the Version) than the "driverguide" one. It can be downloaded from here http://www2.ati.com/drivers/w82560en.exe(still there...) and APPEARS to be the "full" version I cited previously. You'll note that AMD (ATI) no longer supplies the Official Drivers ((which the above is)) for the older OS/Chips. The above is for Win95 2.1 (and above) and Win98FE only, BTW. No confusion involved. As a side note, I've had a heck of a time finding correct drivers for the oldie ATI's, particularly those AddIns that supported Vid In/Out (old AIW's). edit - also found here ftp://ftp.brain.it/public/Driver/ATI/Rage%20pro/ HTH (I'm BETTING that the Official will work...)

Why was MSFN down yesterday and why is it still slow?
submix8c replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Site & Forum Issues
"Randomly" fails... The ODD thing is that (most of) the post(s) actually go through any way... -
???Where could that folder have come from? What kind of CD do you have? That is NOT normal (AFAIK) and sounds VERY much like some kind of OEM Pre-Install...
-
D-R-I-V-E-R-S... that's all you'll get from me beyond the fact that integrating DriverPacks does NOT allow for adding via TXTSETUP.OEM (a common mistake)... (yeah, you hacked me off a few times...)
-
Well, Hah-Hah! No, the fact that 1 - This Topic went from "Dire Warnings" to "How To Install Newer Versions" (should be split to a new topic, IMHO), of which that OTHER topic linked to obviously need and would have NOT known to come to THIS one (because of said title)! 2 - Oracle/Sun specifically stated Win9x was NOT affected, in spite of the assertions (unproven/unfounded) otherwise. You think you might go back to the first page and actually READ the links I gave?
-
Some serious confusion on your OnBoard Video. If in doubt, try these instead - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=96269&prodNameId=96983&swEnvOID=20&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=PSG_I6585-7213 Ignore the "System Requirements" since we're unsure of whether it's actually going to "alter" the BIOS(?)... There's usually multiple VID/PID values in the older ATI Driver packages, e.g. "Rage IIc" on the Chip itself. The document says "Rage Pro Turbo" but what's REALLY on the Chip itself? Would it be possible to visually get what's on it (a big "ATI" symbol will be on it). PCI vs AGP is (AFAIK) irrelevant when it some to older Drivers. Big edit - I know you all don't like DriverGuide - but THIS may be just what the doctor ordered. http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=78812 Notice the contents have a Win95 Help file AND a "Setup" program. I found this while searching for "Rage IIc" drivers. I see NO requirements for any particular version of DirectX unless the Setup Program wants it. It appears to have come directly from an Installation CD (I have one of those too). -SORRY- but I can't upload because it's too big (2.9mb).

Hmmm... seems like nuhi definitely caused/forced it. Thx for the workaround solution. Maybe it should be put into the "nLite FAQ" Sticky since it's an oddball?
