1 - IMPOSSIBLE because the 100mb partition is HIDDEN and would NOT have assigned a Drive letter. "STUFF" would have been the C-Drive. That's obvious based upon the Disk Manager snapshot you gave.2 - "Not so fresh" Install if you had preexisting partitions. Generally a "clean" install starts with no partitions. 3 - There's an "implication" that you installed from THAT PEN DRIVE! 4 - What do you mean by that? 5 - Your sentences/thoughts are badly running together (see #3 / #4) so I have no clue what you mean.

HFSLIP - why? What "special" functions do you need from HFSLIP that nLite doesn't do? nLite - merge Hotfixes, remove not needed components, USE THE DPMassStorage Add-ON (yes, it DOES work) http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/windows/xp/x86/mass-storage/12.09/drivers RVMIntegrator - for such a SMALL amount of removal - WHY? DriverPack Integrator - USE nLite! (see above) Claiming "issues" won't cut it - there ARE none! AFAIC, but maybe I'm wrong? http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=5056 I guess I should ask is this supposed to be an All-Encompassing (generalized) Motherboard Installation CD/DVD? We DO have SATA Driver Add-Ons here that DO work. "Windows Update, WGA, Office Update and Flash Player" - MAN, you are wasting time going the round-about way! ALL INTEGRATE-ABLE using EXE Files/Add-ons. Go to -X- website http://xdot.tk/updates.html and check it out - ALL THERE! It even uses Ricktendo's info and my script to create the WUA (we all collaborated on it) - the SAME ONE you downlaoded. Office Update is OBSOLETE and no longer even used! You MUST use Microsoft Update (as opposed to Windows Update) now. Ricktendo ALSO created one for THAT (included in the "combined" package) to use INSTEAD of the one you downloaded! HERE it is (scroll down a couple of posts) - http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8441&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=250 The ONLY thing missing from there is DriverPack (it DOES work - get it), and any other Add-On's (e.g. dotNet). Those are "elsewhere" and can be pointed to if need be.
-
Have you tried causing it to add hardware manually in Device Manager? As you said the Drivers MUST be on the Root of the CD because initially you pointed to it.
-
And to follow up on jaclaz' post - I REPEAT - that FILE you change is IN THE BOOT IMAGE of the CD and it's a LINE inside of the "CONFIG.SYS" file that's INSIDE the Boot Image. REREAD my posts! AND you NEVER said if you can REBURN the CD after altered - it would HAVE to be REBUILT! Post 7 (me), 10 (you), 18 (me), 19 (you) - I WILL NOT REPEAT IT AGAIN!!!!

That 100mb Partition is installed by default and must remain unless you do some fancy shuffling - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd548341.aspx Created as a system reserved partition (Windows 7 Ultimate / Business / Enterprise) for Windows 7 Bitlocker. There ARE hacks to cause it to NOT be installed and even to rid yourself of it. Google windows 7 100mb partition Yous screwed around with EasyBCD before we had a chance to see how you INITIALLY were installed so there's no chance of knowing what you messed up. "Stuff" is designated (rightly) as System/Active/Primary since you BOOT (rightly) from the "Reserved" C-Drive (Boot/Page/Crash/Primary). You shouldn't have screwed with EasyBCD before you knew what you had. ALSO you can NOT easily install XP -AFTER- Windows7, nor more than you can easily install Win98SE -AFTER- WindowsXP. Wrong order. WTH is "MULTISYSTEM" (Active/Primary)?
-
?Would that be due to Fast User Switching being set (by default on Home)? And FWIW, a TRUE Home OEM CD (supplied by the Manufacture, read that as "altered") just MIGHT be causing an "Owner" to be created (somewhere?). EVERY one I remember seeing (AFAICR, a/l HP/Compaq) had an "Owner" pre-built in. Question - does the Source CD have ALL files in I386 the same date? (just look in Explorer and click the "Date" bar and scroll top/bottom) Hmm... guess I could play with it a bit too.

Did you try OTHER than the HP Website? Canon! http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010384.asp

"Name: Windows Update, Publisher: Microsoft Windows Component Publisher." I.E. "Windows Update Agent" - "WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe". I see several LOGS - RVMIntegrator, HFSLIP, and nLite. Why are you using ALL of them? HFSLIP This won't (AFAIK) install EVERYTHING you need. Where did you get those instructions?
-
All of the "instructions" on How To Install seems to floated off the original Topic/Title. This person seems to be having difficulty installing JRE-6u43 and wasn't aware of THIS topic. If possible, maybe a Moderator could split it out OR the OP could change the Title to be more suitable? After all, it WAS determined that 9x was NOT affected.
-
...and I have NO CLUE as to whether some information given in This Topic will help. You'll have to read the whole thing. edit - Actually post #63 (last screen) made by jds

Your Motherboard specifically states what the SATA Connector Number is (on the board itself). In addition, I'd bet that the BIOS specifically states which Device is connected to Which One. You were given the "basic steps". Use them. Simply REPLACE the "oakcdrom.sys" with "gcdrom.sys" and INCLUDE the "Cx" parameter in the same line. What more do you want?

Yeah, me too! * - REMOVE the nVidia Card 1 - Clean Install 98SE (ACPI Enabled SHOULD WORK) 2 - 1 GB RAM shouldn't have been a problem BUT if it does, THEN change according to the "Greater than 1gb" topic. The subject matter is Not "Greater than 512mb" and that "information" is in error! The MAX is 1024mb/1gb! 3 - NOW install the VIA Hyperion Chipset Drivers Dencorso linked you too 4 - NOW install the OTHER files from the Gigabyte link. ALL of them (except VIA Hyperion) applicable to 98SE! USUALLY the Video one FIRST after the Chipset. * - INSERT the nVidia Card 5 - NOW install the nVidia Driver! The Via Hyperion is REQUIRED to be the FIRST drivers installed - in ANY Install scenario! This would even apply for ANY Chipset (even Intel or AMD or nVidia or "whoever"). The CHIPSET drivers are ALWAYS first! AGP Aperture Size in the BIOS has given me problems WHEN GREATER THAN 256MB! You should REALLY tell us EXACTLY (blow by blow) the steps you used AND for each individual step WHAT changes you MAY have made and HOW you made them using WHAT "unofficial" files (whatever) you may have used. You will PROBABLY need all of the Updates/Hotfixes for 98SE. There's an Unofficial Service Pack AND an AutoPatcher. I used a different approach using AutoPatcher files and Integrating them (a RunOnce method). Choose your poison but CHOOSE! This COULD be done AFTER the "base procedure" has been confirmed fully functional. In addition there IS a List Of Hotfixes available (see the "Stickified Topics" Topic for the link). We're kind of at a loss and "stabbing in the dark" here. Noting you did NOT say anything about ANY of the Drivers and what order, etc. BTW, I've been using AMD MoBo's for a while now. The OLDER ones (like yours) are MUCH better (IMHO) than the Intel. Seriously, my old Mobo was nearly identical to yours and the only MAJOR difference was I used a normal VGA.

Why was MSFN down yesterday and why is it still slow?
submix8c replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Site & Forum Issues
Still acting weird.... -
That's odd. Mine works fine. Did you install the x86 or x64 version? I'm on an x86 system, so...
-
A notation here - The quote given about the UEFI version is found here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/W8ITProPreRel/thread/bbef87f4-85cd-4520-8c0b-d9acf6e47a61/ You specifically said "some computers" so I have to assume that's the case. A tutorial -

Agreed on both counts...

Probably the first Image is the WinPE. Looking in a Dell (only one Edition=HomePremium for it) Vista BOOT.WIM yields two images, first one is WinPE. Download 7-Zip, install it, right-click on the WIM and select "open with" (DON'T tick "always use this...") and scroll down to 7-Zip. After it opens, right click the XML file and open it "outside". You'll clearly see which Index is for what.
-
Uh, YES! <image_index> has to be a NUMBER! Right here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824879.aspx IOW, there are multiple Images within the WIM for each Edition of Windows. Choose the one associated with your Edition and replace that "varable name" with (literally) the number (1,2,3,whichever).

I know that a properly set up 98SE on that MoBo will in fact run without problem with a Standard VGA attached WITH all functions including ACPI. Be aware that a number of "unofficial" files and setting may be needed. I'm betting on an improper installation (first) in conjunction with the TV (second). I googled this for some info on the problematic connection. lcd tv nvidia vga -dvi -s-videoknowing that it could be "defined" further, but the link I gave should give a "clue" to a proper VGA->LCD-TV setup. You should REALLY try connecting a "real" monitor and getting that up-and-running first to eliminate the TV as a problem as it COULD be causing a "hang" (see given link). In addition, do it using the On-Board to start with THEN add the Card using the "official" drivers. And YES, the Drivers are available for that board for Win9x (probably EXACTLY the same as mine). edit - DOH!!! Not from Gigabyte - from ViaArena. edit2 - DOH!!! again! Do NOT choose an OS! leave it on "choose" then select "show all" to the right! They're all there! It confused me because the Drivers for my "old" board didn't show either until I did that. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1670#dl edit3 (from the Google) - a hint on what the problem might be (different VidCard/TV) - https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/459031/-quot-unsupported-video-format-quot-on-philips-lcd-tvs-with-nvidia-cards/ ...and you can add "toshiba" to the search. What model IS the TV, anyway? Googling on just "toshiba 32 lcd" shows several variations of HDTV/pixels. and another link also indicates that the EDID is causing a problem with TV hooked up (see prev. link).

It seems that the OP won't come back. Indeed, they chose "Best Answer" over here - http://forums.cnet.com/7723-6618_102-590443/windows-98-installation-error-oemcd001/ I guess "case closed".

...and MINE was a KM400 and had NO SUCH problems! My daughter now owns it with XP on it. If you look back at the "Greater than 1gb RAM" topic I specified it there. Your problem HAS to be the Video since I was using an nVidia MX400 and drivers were available. AFAICR, I used the "unofficial" one from the "; Tweaked Unofficial NVIDIA Display Driver 82.69 for Windows 98/ME / ; hXXp://www.mdgx.com/files/NV8269.TXT". On-Board is definitely KM400 but "kind of" an S3. Driver specifically states And the GeForce-6200 is officially supported by nVidia in the v81.98 Forceware. As far as the Toshiba TV, what kind of X-by-Y (screen size) are you trying to use? After a certain BIG size, you can NOT change above 16-colors. I'd say there's something "odd" about using your TV as a monitor in conjunction with that card. More info on "aspect ratio" with your setup here - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1570171 BTW, did you install the last working Windows98 DirectX?
-
Thank you, jaclaz for helping out. I already gave the "elhvb" link but it must have not gotten noticed. I have used that site a LOT before! side note (edit) - had a bit of a problem with posting/editing. I MEANT to specify "Florida-TG" so thanks for expanding on it with specifics, all. I had already gotten the correct manual. BTW, yep I have all of the drivers. Pretty much the same as an eTower "533ID". I'm unsure if you'll need Chipset Driver(s) or if they're included in the Win95.

Win95 "B" and Win95 "C" both had USB Support. "B" (2.0) has no USB files at all and are (were) downloadable from MS. "B" (2.1) has "DRIVERS\USB\ENDUSER\USBSUPP.EXE". "C" (2.5) has "OTHER\UPDATES\USB\OEMUSB.EXE" + "USBSUPP.EXE" + "USBUPD2.EXE". This doesn't provide any "unofficial" Service Packs but provides a link to overcome CPU Limit. However, if you go here and scroll down you'll find a couple of "unofficial" ones. The MSFN Topic is here. Get the actual file from the first link and if it doesn't work, scroll down on the second link and click into the Website for other links. Note that there ARE several Win95 topics of value in this Subforum. edit - forgot to mention this Topic which specifically names Hotfixes. I believe IE5.5 SP2 is the last IE usable on Win95. Not sure about other Browsers. Also check out this Topic. edit2 - Outpost Firewall v1 FREE (the second link) - http://outpost-firewall-free.softpile.com/45412/download/ Google "blockpost_2002_08_08.exe"for an Add-On Blocking facility. edit3 - for that eMachines, you'll have a dickens of a time finding the Drivers. I have them. It's a Trigem/Anaheim MoBo. http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/TriGem/ ULP!!! May be wrong - it COULD be a "Freeman" - Brother had one EXACTLY like it and I have all of the Gateway Docs and Drivers for it too. Check the MoBo for an "identifier". KRAP - "Florida" MoBo... HTH

Oh, come ON!!!! GOOGLE that and click the links given They say EXACTLY what to do. Why repeat it here? Here is the "help" information. Hereis the download. Replace "OAKCDROM.SYS" with "GCDROM.SYS" and use the additional "Cx" parameter (RTFM) to point to the CD/DVD's SATA "plug" designation. AGAIN, EASY-PEASY!!!! AND as rloew said And THAT is an entirely different matter! You will have to EXTRACT the Boot Image, OPEN IT in an Floppy Image Editor, EXTRACT the "CONFIG.SYS", CHANGE it, REINSERT IT into the Image, then RECREATE YOUR CD! An ALTERNATIVE would be to put the MODIFIED Image onto a Real Floppy.Do you have a Burning Software Suite? If so, MAYBE you could use a program like (e.g.) BBIE to extract the Image, get a Trial Version of WinImage, modify the Image, "dump" your CD Contents to a Folder, then Re-Create a Bootable CD with you Burning Suite. What Windows OS are you DOING this on? 95/98/98SE/ME/XP/Vista/Seven?
