XP 64-bit installaton onto an USB3-Stick
submix8c replied to Testdriver's topic in Install Windows from USB
"Install Portable" = "Winbuilder" WinSetupFromUSB not= WinSetupToUSB Sounds like the OP wants to do both in one pass. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Medion-Akoya-E1318T-MD99330.111751.0.html http://www.diskidee.be/2014/01/25/verbeterde-touch-10-minilaptop-bij-aldi/34653/ Surely there's a cover there where the HDD (an SSD?) resides. (External 500GB HDD?) -
Beg pardon, Kel... that was an "edit" that I missed (wasn't there before). Now, if you look real close -that- is -specifically- for a WinPE as I said. It's no good. He apparently has a Restore CD.DVD (set?) and that will "wipe" his current install. The Recovery Console was -not- being installed (as I said), the CD/DVD was -literally- attempting to boot into a Recovery routine. Just like the Compaq ones I have - SoftThinks/PC-Angel/Ghost/Whatever images. (No way WIM's) File "SNYHDRCV" is a dead giveaway. Wonder what's in that "CREATECD" folder? Too bad we don't have a COMPLETE directory listing. SOMETIMES you get lucky and a crippled version of Ghost/Powerquest is used (but you would need the program to "unpack" it). As I said, the OP will need the Product Key from the Registry, the four "special files", and a (maybe "borrowed) XP Home Edition (any SP-Level) -or- mount the HDD (somehow) in another PC to get the I386 (OEM's may have it in ROOT or "WINDOWS", moving target), along with SP3 plus a working PC to "integrate" and then "replace" the four "special" files. -UNLESS- the OP has more than one CD/DVD in a Set? Alternative - wipe the HDD and start from scratch (Factory Restore from CD/DVD) and lose any software/data put on it from date of PC procurement. Aaaaand reviewing, jaclaz said sufficient and some of what I reiterated (consider this an addendum). I now bow out/shut up. edits? - to remind me - "Sony Vaio VGN-A790" Notebook/Laptop http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNA790&template_id=1®ion_id=1&tab=download#/downloadTab According to the Marketing Specs, that's a SATA HDD, so you -can- plug it into a Desktop directly to get what's needed off the HDD. (Manuals/Specs tab) and it came with XP Home SP2. It's within the possibilities of "using what you have" provided a Desktop with SATA on the MoBo, a power connector, and a data cable can be used.

Questions about ATI Radeon HD8240 and Qualcom Atheros AR9485
submix8c replied to ironman14's topic in Device Drivers
There -is- no ".drv" files. No, x64 drivers won't work. Go into Device Manager, finde the VEN/DEV values and google. It seems that the Drivers must have come from soemwhere - you talking XP 64-bit at the moment (you never said)? Seems that you have a "newer" x64 OS currently installed, right? I can't seem to find any drivers for XP for HD8240 - only Win7 and up. From AMD - Meaning, it's "built into" the CPU. And yes, drivers can be extracted (UniExtractor) and usually involve at least on ".INF" file (the Installation Information Directive file) and one or more files (ANY suffix, e.g. .SYS, .DLL, .EXE, etc etc). HTH (and come back with better info than what you gave for better info ) -
I don't know about BWC's (haven't looked at it) but see this - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/152194-discontinued-update-rollup-2-for-windows-2000/ Put the files in the standard place as if they're from MS, one would assume. Do them in the order specified here - http://www.windows2000.tk/ HTH edit - and I'd be careful about "customizing" - you -might- "break" something. Test the results in a VM first.

? Did I -not- give a link to a Topic specifically stating said (Dell) DVD Burner had "problems" and that a Cross-Flash ("risky business") "fixed" said "problems"? That link -also- states that's the latest firmware (and you checked anyway, apparently not trusting me) DE04. How in the world do you think I determined it was a Dell-branded? Also if you would have GOOOO-gled that DVD Brand you would have found that the media may not be that great in the first place. Bear in mind that what's on the Lable may/may-not tell whether it's any good. I have Memorex that says "inside" - Ritek. "Packard Bell" DVD+RW, eh? http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/27936-35-disk-dont-work-drive Just how old are those DVD's? Answer - 8 yrs old and cheap. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/30-x-4-7gb-packard-bell-dvd-rw-discs-10913 Use better media as suggested.

DUDES! There's some -serious- confusion going on! The -list- the OP provided was from the SERVICE PACK and -not- the Sony CD/DVD! I -want- the DIR listing from the ORIGINAL Sony CD/DVD (NOT SP3, everyone can get that) to determine -if- it indeed is a "full" set (REMEMBER that it began life as XP -HOME- with SP1 not SP3)! I -repeat- that -some- OEM's pulled a "stunt" of copying the I386 -only- after Restore (remember the difference?) -and- specifically booted into XP PRO WINPE. This, my friends, was SOP for Compaq. Trust me, I -still- have the CD's sitting right here, two variations, one for an Intel, one for an AMD (my Bro and his wife) WAY long time ago. Again, we do -not- know whether the OP has a -full- I386 on the -SONY- CD/DVD ATM. In addition, would it -not- be wise to get the Key off the HDD' Registry and those "special" files so it will preactivate -even if the OP were to reload from scratch-? Bottom line, since F8 is the "nonfunctional" (after POST and WHY?) -and- the Sony CD/DVD is "bootable" -and- it wants to go to Recovery Console (NOT install it) then, aren't we at an impasse? Indeed, -is- it "installing Recovery Console" or -is- it loading up some sort of Factory Restore procedure? Seriously, folks, think about it. Please, Sir OP, provide a Directory Listing of -your- Sony CD/DVD's I386 folder and I'll gladly compare to -my- I386 (regardless of Service Pack level). We -may- be spinning some serious wheels here! (sigh...) Also AHEM! I reply from the last page/bottom of the Topic, you know, where the "Post" and "More Reply Options" buttons are?

Well I -did- say so that "link" was just to provide information. The -other- link was to specifically inform you that Enterprise as a choice is a no-go (ref. KMS/MAK keys). No surprises here. Your choices are clear about the "purchase" - you'll need to get a DVD from a -reputable- source while you can, the Edition is whichever you want (except Enterprise or Server). The PRODUCT KEY for the chosen Edition is the bugaboo, since a legitimate ISO can be obtained.
-
Enterprise is the "Volume" version of Ultimate. Good luck getting/finding that (and pointless). You should look at the features comparison list link given by Tripredacus. What "software" could you possibly need to use that would require Ultimate (Enterprise)? Enterprise - http://ykrlidhoahlomizw.softwaretopgrade.com/product/microsoft-windows-7-ent-sp1/Oh, and that price makes it "questionable". See this - http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/product-activation-faq.aspx I wouldn't touch Enterprise with someone else' ten-foot-pole. Also Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

How odd! Well, take a look at this and see if it "closely matches" yours. (50kb ZIP of Pro XP w/SP3). I just find it EXTREMELY odd that no "WIN51IC" and "WIN51IC.SP1" files exist in the ROOT of your CD, which would exist if your OEM disk were XP Home w/SP1. !!!PROI386DIR.zip Attachment procedure - 1 - Click "More Reply Options" 2 - In "Attach Files", click "Browse", and "Select" a file 3 - Click "Attach This File" 4 - Above that, click "Add To Post" 5 - Add whatever text you like in the Post before/after the brackets "[]" (brackets surround the attachment# and attached filename). You did it that way?

The image indicates the DVD supported write speed is 2x. Have you tried forcing it to that? BTW... http://club.myce.com/f86/burning-media-code-optodisck001-92532/ For that "brand" appears to be several "write speeds" (google it). Also, do a Full Erase if possible (safer bet). I've had real problems with using Quick Erase before. Quick Erase -is- "fast" and error-prone. AND - see what ImgBurn says on your -other- computer for that DVD. Note - the Firmware may not be up to it on -that- PC. HTH edit - it appears you're trying to Erase and then Write in one pass. Try Erasing in one pass and -then- Write afterwards (what I do failsafe). BTW, some Burners don't do '-RW" and only do "+RW". Check your Burner specs. Scratch that - Is that a Dell? Indications are more of Firmware (that SHOULD be a Dual-Layer +/-RW Burner Firmware DE04 - that's DELL). Risky business - http://www.ailis.de/~k/archives/36-dell-firmware-problems-with-tsstcorp-ts-l632d-dvd-drive.html

Friend's computer sitting next to be. Win7 Ultimate with 1gb RAM and runs just fine ATM. Plans on using a plotter with it for making spray paint templates (auto, cycle, etc), which means they will probably need to get a graphics editor, so I suggested going another 1gb (takes max 4gb). Also, is the MoBo/CPU a 64-bit? If not, that Win7x64 is a no-go anyway. "Uses only web browser" kind of makes it pointless to go overboard, doesn't it? Stay with the existing hardware and go 32-bit. A 3d party Real-Time Antivirus (in lieu of Windows Defender) will eat more RAM so, that's your choice but still 1.5->2gb should suffice. Also, heed the above comments. HTH

Hmmm... XP Home Edition, eh? That last image indicates "IP" (Professional), which further indicates that's a Recovery (Restore) CD and -not- a Reinstall CD. I'm betting that the I386 is just the WINPE files. Could you get a Directory Listing of the I386 folder for us (zip and upload/attach)? Something isn't right.

No. but I can tell you about the aforementioned aka Offhand, I'd say that's not an "unofficial" anything but it -is- warez! It's already "custom". Sorry, no soup for you!

What's a Uninversal Installer? I know what Universal Extractor is - it's a general-purpose file decompresser. BTW, -some- files that the Extractor decompresses -will- have that - they're just "resources" and are unusable. Can you clarify between "Installer" and "extractor"? The -topic- says Extractor but the -post- says Installer - which is it?
-
And I wonder what the stats would look like if the corresponding Server Editions were included (and lumped against the corresponding Consumer OS)?
-
BAHAHAHAH! Stepping back to original IBM-style "bios boot" ("ROMBasic"->FloppyDOS)! http://ohlandl.ipv7.net/config/ROM_Basic.html (disclaimer - above link may/may-not-be accurate) Progress! (yeah, I've found/stumbled-upon on the WWW references to "truly" system-locked OS/Edition BIOS')

Clarification - 1 - Have available you OWN XP Disk (you said you have it) and Key 2 - Get all updates listed (also see Windows Updates Downloader) 3 - Get you Machine Specific Drivers (YOU do that!) 4 - Get nLite (the Tool), use it to Integrate #2+#3 into #1 - Now you have it. * - Add-Ons (optional software) can be obtained from other sources. Note that nLite explains how to create them yourself, as well as many other sites provide details. Add-Ons can also be integrated with nLite provided that it's correctly constructed. There is -also- Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI) tool that can be used to install any Optional Software. No files are hosted on MSFN. #1 you must already HAVE and OWN (with your OWN Key). #2 you must obtain from Microsoft or via a Downloader (e.g. W.U.D.). Note that these DOWNLOAD from MS directly (legally) and do NOT host files either. #3 you -should- already have -or- you must get from the Hardware Manufacturer. #4 - you get from nliteos.com. Note the requirement of dotNet in order for it to be able to run. Summary - we don't distribute or else it would be warez. We DO, however, point you to where to -legally- get everything (except #1). Please go to the top of any MSFN page and click on "MSFN Etiquette" for our Rules. HTH edit - To Install XP -from- USB, you will have to go to another SubForum on MSFN. To install -to- USB, this is a bit trickier. You'll have to clarify that. -FROM- USB to HDD - http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/157-install-windows-from-usb/ -TO- USB (not the PC's HDD) - ask in above sub-forum.

1) No, no Update List for Server 2003. Very few folks use/need/ask for it. (see Windows Updates Downloader) 2) Nope! List#1 is Current, List#2 is Obsolete, List#3 is "Change Log". Date of Change, followed by "+" means added "-" means either removed (for some reason) -or- replaced by something (explained below "+" and "-"). You've misread that - try scrolling through, it's very clear. *Needed/High Priority (NO OPTIONALS, e.g. dotNet, MP10/11, Silverlight, etc.) - Filename+MS-Article+KB-Article+Description *Obsolete List (-or- Superseded) - Filename+Replaced-By(and Version)+Description <<--Your confusion *Change Log (as I explained above) ! NOTE! Original Links listed in "Obsolete" will be "somewhere" within it, e.g. January 2014 + WindowsXP-KB2914368-x86-ENU.exe <-There's your link you said was wrong. - WindowsXP-KB2440591-x86-ENU.exe replaced by WindowsXP-KB2914368-x86-ENU.exe <-See "Obsolete" List The method of Changes that -X- uses is to (did) get the Patch Tuesday Updates, compare to Current. If files inside never existed in any other previous fixes, add it, if files inside Replaces/Supersedes, -MOVE- "old" from List#1 to List#2, log actions (in either case) to a Change Log with the Date, and change the Download Script accordingly. As you can see, only two items since EOS, so you might want to get this and use it -NOW- plus any other Optionals (you're on your own on that) plus any of the Unofficial POSReady (look for that in MSFN). -X- ONLY deals/dealt with Required and Fixes Only. HTH

Guess that should have been mentioned from the beginning. Multiple AntiVirus Real-Time doesn't play well together. In fact in a "regular" XP (or newer) the "flag" in the Registry is -usually- set to indicate you already have an AntiVirus to keep from getting a warning about not having one or it being disabled. You must have another one installed that's "over-riding" that flag? If you absoultely insist on having multiple AntiVirus software, -only enable realtime on one of them- and use the "others" manually. FYI, this has been a known problem for many Antivirus vendors for quite some time now. Worse, -some- vendors actually (sometimes) see -another- vendor's software as malware.
-
Hmmm... http://xdot.tk Guess you didn't look there? That's Obsolete/Superseded. If you look at the Change Log you'll see that it's been replaced several times and this one is the latest - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2859537 I thought I pointed you in the right direction?
-
Did you miss this? You'll need a version no later than that one and manually get the Definition Updates to install, otherwise it just won't work. Definitions - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971606 v4.4.304 - http://filehippo.com/download_security_essentials_xp MS "broke" the Downloaded one so you -must- use this one -and- turn off -any- Update options in it and -always- manually download and install Definitions! HTH References - http://www.msfn.org/_/software/bug-in-microsoft-security-essentials-downs-windows-xp-machines-r9009 http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171498-need-microsoft-security-essentials-grab-it-now/ Side Note - you DID get that one, right? ONLY UPDATE DEFINITIONS! edit (after dencorso post) - Awww... forgot about needing the latest (v4.5) Installer. ;( edit2 (after dersonpg) - Wow! I guess I'm behind on the posts? Dencorso meant the MICROSOFT INSTALLER v4.5 (MSI = Microsoft Software Installer) -not- Microsoft Security Essentials. You're confusing things. use the MSIv4.5+MSEv4.4.304 and -do not-allow updates. Later than that version will CRASH! (see first reference).
-
-
HUH??? If you've used Windows/Microsoft Update you already have them! http://xdot.tk has every single update you'll ever need. XP (any Release of Home/Pro, beware OEM, especially Dell) + SP3 + those downloaded with the Script + Integrate all with nLite and you're done. HTH
-
FWIW, I have no luck with FireFox and MHT's as my version doesn't even recogize them -or- fails anyway if forcing (v12). BTW, I think you may not have set up HTTRACK options right to allow for creating the correct sub-folders? You need to read some of the docs. HTH

Yeah, the EI.CFG specifically states WHICH one - "Core" or "Pro" / OEM or Retail. You didn't google that website with beaucoupe info? (dellwindowsreinstallationguide) Better check it out so you'll know what's going on - it's VERY explicit -and- provides the "trick" keys (BOTH of them). Basically, you messed up by using a Pro key instead of a Core key. I think you may be out of luck sans reinstall -or- restore the 8.0 then upgrade again. so check that website. I haven't given a direct link because I'm not sure if it would be considered "shady/warezey" although it doesn't appear to be. There -appears- to be -older- downloader files that may need used, depending on what you have. You've apparently used the -newer- ones. DO check that website out. Seriously since BOOM it jumps up first link! HTH P.S. EI.CFG automates nothing - it simply "automatically selects" Edition and whether Retail/OEM/Volume - thought you knew that?
