Motherboard front panel header and case front panel connectors don'
submix8c replied to vipejc's topic in Hardware Hangout
(sigh...) You just now said "OHHH!!! I forgot to mention, I realize the problem - scratch that one", otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it. You ALSO didn't mention that! We do NOT consult "crystal balls" here. Try this - go into SAFE mode and REMOVE those items from the Device Manager and REBOOT! I "assume" you set the jumpers on the back correctly? -
BartPE, Macrium Reflect, and SATA optical drive
submix8c replied to vipejc's topic in Software Hangout
Pshhhtttt - you paid absolutely NO attention to the LINKS I gave (and OTHER members) OR the STATEMENTS given by others? You must MOUNT the Image to ROBOCOPY it (Via RoboRestore?), or didn't you NOTICE all of that good info given? You will STILL have to PARTITION, FORMAT, FIX (reload) MBR, set it ACTIVE (BEFORE Robocopy from IMAGE CONTENTS), AND remove the C-Drive spec from the Registry (see MSFN link given by jaclaz) to even BOOT to it! OR ensure that the "magic ID bytes" MATCH in the ORIGINAL MBR as opposed to the NEW MBR. These "magic bytes" have a LOT to do with "where am I installed" and be FULLY AWARE that if you CHANGE TOO MUCH (other than just the HDD) you WILL have to reactivate. You were SPECIFICALLY TOLD to learn about the DIFFERENCES between the processes to understand! Jaclaz said You NEVER followed up into the YET part, DID you?You INITIALLY said NOW, if you REREAD what has been POSTED and UNDERSTAND what will FURTHER need to be done to "COPY" (you got THAT link too by jaclaz, as well as info in his LAST post) you SHOULD be ok to COPY.RTFL (L=LINKS!) and RTFC (C=COMMENTS)... THIMK!!! (intentional misspelling). -
One might "assume" that if the OLD MoBo is MicroATX then it will mount. I guess you could ask yourself "will everything line up and fit just like the old one" (e.g. back-panel stuff, room for PSU, room for CPU/Cooler position). You didn't say what the OLD board/CPU/Cooler is. Should we search the Forum for that or will you be so kind as to specify here? "Will my Holly 4BBL 750Double-Pump fit on my 4BBL Intake?" <-get the idea?

Ashampoo Burning Studio 12 trial switchless
submix8c replied to Escorpiom's topic in Application Installs
@geej - Downloaded, Started Install, Got Key, Cancelled Install. I am "assuming" that it can be used on ANY computer ONCE (must be activated) at ANY TIME (even though the Free Key given) without Install Time Limitation? If not, oh well... -
As for using the RTM and applying the SP1, the KB articles listed in the MS KB that you specified neglects to tell you that KB976902 is definitely a Prerequisite(?). See the following two articles for some more silly references - The KB976902 - https://krebsonsecurity.com/2010/10/demystifying-kb976902-a-k-a-microsofts-blackhole-update/ -p.s. - HERE is a link to it - -p.s. - the KB article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976902/en-gb (obsolete and leads to ANOTHER KB article) It APPEARS to imply that the KB (above) is necessary for the SP1 to "appear" in the Update List. Other KB's that will PREVENT installation(?) - http://krebsonsecurity.com/2011/02/before-you-install-windows-7-service-pack-1/ I assume you got the ISO from MS here? - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842 I would recommend what was recommended (get the SP1-Integrated DVD image). Get the CORRECT one (same as YOUR RTM/non-SP1). I believe that IF you bought Retail (I assume you did/it is?) then these should work with your key. Alternative is to get the KB976902-replacement KB2533552 instead and try it(?) again DISCONNECTED from the Internet. It LOOKS like this AND the SP are the only two items needed. Errr - read this - http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-7/100108-kb976902-replaced-kb2533552.html If you REALLY want to go with the SP1 DVD, try installing the appropriate KB976902 and then the OTHER "recommended" three and THEN the SP1 (stay disconnected the whole time). THEN go to WS Update and see what's offered. As you were informed, MS Update gets sometimes "confused" as to horse-before-cart. side note: seems that KB (from searching/reading) has a number of "things fixed", including Validation(?).

submix8c replied to vipejc's topic in Hardware Hangout
You must screw with your OS quite a bit to mess that (DVD) up! Now for the Rear Sound - as I remember, there's some PINS on the HEADER that goes to the FRONT PANEL that you MUST JUMPER if you are NOT plugging in the FRONT PANEL. Remember me saying something about "plug into FP and Rear Is Disabled? Look back at the links I gave - the info as to WHICH "pairs" is clearly given. That's all I'm going to say - YOU do some footwork from what's given. -
[Solved] A few questions about the Win98SE update pack
submix8c replied to Zapeth's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Back up one subforum level. Now scroll down and click on this. USP has so far been ok (AFAIK) with a few "glitches" as just specified. All "fixes" aren't forced on you (AFAIK). Each machine will be different (fact). Drivers aren't included (AFAIK) - that's up to you to get and install. Other "packs" are available (look at those links) as well as "somewhere" a repository/links-to of all known fixes (official and unofficial). If you're having problems with USP, they're better addressed in that thread. "Protection error" indicates something needs "fixed" prior to install(?). You can use google for anything you need to searchj for and append site:www.msfn.orgwhich works better than MSFN's Search. -
BartPE, Macrium Reflect, and SATA optical drive
submix8c replied to vipejc's topic in Software Hangout
You didn't actually read the links or links-in-links, did you? 1 - YES YES YES YES (duh!!!) NT OS-based and Filesystem is... IRRELEVANT! 2 - ROBOCOPY /? (duh!) Did you even TRY to google robocopy syntaxBOOM!!! All answers right there. Try harder next time. -
Ummm... Might I point out that the OP never mentioned whether it was a BIOS-recognize problem or an OS-recognize problem. Also, moving an HDD Compaq<->not-Compaq may screw up data IF accessed. HP/Compaq sometimes have "strange" HDD Translations. All depends on the computers involved. (noting that the OP has not ONCE said what computers are involved) Edit (is this one?) We will NOT provide a "download location" of Win98-Floppy, so if you REALLY want that, go buy it somewhere.

submix8c replied to vipejc's topic in Software Hangout
DOH!!! Roborestore is the Macrium Reflect software(?). Look here at another person with the same scenario. Seems that it answers your question as well. Link inside points to here. http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx More info? http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=24225 -

XPSF2 slipstreamed with SP3 is greater than 700M
submix8c replied to chl2012's topic in Application Add-Ons
If you remove something, the Last Session INI file will say so. It also tells what was Slipstreamed and in what order. Nobody said you did, it's just "standard practice" so we'll be able to easily assist. It's unnecessary to delete them - you can create a new "set"/"pair" each nLite run OR reuse any previous one by selecting it.Don't get excited... so far so good. edit - P.S. - the file is both in the nLite folder and the resultant Output/ISO/CD. -
Try change SATA Mode to IDE/PATA in the BIO. No SATA support at all in Win9x unless you get rloew's SATA driver (not free). Athlon 64 - OK / 1GB RAM - OK / MX440 - OK (get the compatible drivers) / 320GB HD - look at Stickies for info on limitations and the patch / DVD - irrelevant (should just "work"). Don't know about the K8N but good possibility "compatible" with appropriate Chipset drivers.Your MoBo - http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo2-Platinum.html Yep - nForce3 Drivers available...

XPSF2 slipstreamed with SP3 is greater than 700M
submix8c replied to chl2012's topic in Application Add-Ons
Read the Sticky's in this subforum - there's a FAQ and a Guide - start with those. You are doing something very wrong! This Topic shouldn't be under Add-Ons anyway. This is a direct nLite "problem". -
1. Post #9 - DO IT! 4. Reread #4 - did you get the ISO Image from the link I provided? I SAID it has three folders you should COPY to you HDD "XPNLITE" folder - DOTNETFX, SUPPORT, VALUEADD. * - Did you notice I said that the SP3 Package does NOT contain the COMPLETE CONTENTS of WIN9XMIG, WIN9XUPG, WINNTUPG? You can PROBABLY copy those folders from the XP Pro you have (they are the same AFAICR) IF IT IS ALSO NETHERLANDS, and also the others (BOOTFONT, AUTORUN). To get to Windows Explorer (see Post #9), just open My Documents OR it's in Start->Programs-AccessoriesOnce there, click on the "Folders" button to get the left/right pane view (you'll see what I mean). Now follow the instructions for SEEING EVERYTHING! Question#1 - You said What do you mean by that? This? So you actually CREATED a Physical CD, or just the FOLDER I said to make, or somehow you created ISO Image?Question#2 - Why do you have a WIN51IC.SP1 file? Where did it come from? Your SOURCE is SP2 (per the LINK I gave to YOUR SPECS). Question#3 - You said So you DID create a CD? How? More important Did it Install without errors and WORK?Comment#1 - In reference to Question#3 - you are aware that's not necessarily legal? The COA key belongs to that SPECIFIC computer. Also, did you get the Four OEMBIOS Files and INTERNAL Key as I instructed you to do? Comment#2 - For YOUR computer, I already pointed you to them. For ANOTHER computer, find out what it is and go the the Manufacturer.

Interesting... I see a "Active Network" that states "Public Network" of type "Local Area Connection". Are you connected by WIRED? Tripredacus specifically stated You will see HOW you are connected (at this time) by clicking "See Full Map". This will more than likely SPECIFICALLY show that you're connected via a WIRED NETWORK. Betcha! You will HAVE to disconnect the WIRE to use WIRELESS (see quote, dude)!

Well, you didn't specify that. What you DID specify is More info here -http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/2c93d40d-33c2-4494-ad89-2ed8b0f6477f

So... you're trying to do a VPC Share under DOS AND you have a problem with the CD-ROM at the same time? I use a couple of DOS Ghost floppies and don't use vmadd386.sys or an EMM. But here's a write-up on it (for my own ref also) - http://www.winvistatips.com/vmadd386-sys-t514852.html MS info on other modules (lacks VMADD info) - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833146

Capped (clipped, whatever) sound with Audigy sound card
submix8c replied to Phaenius's topic in Hardware Hangout
[ot] Recent article about Linux Market Share. It's true that it's wise to do a little "light reading" on Linux (not for the faint-hearted) but it's really no different than learning a Windows OS from "scratch". In fact, many Linux users having never used Windows finds Windows to be a pain. Being a "Other Operating Systems", browse around that Sub-Forum for while just for funsies. [/ot] -
Speed up programs running with cmd
submix8c replied to FixitUP's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
Dumb question... Which version Of TASM (Turbo Assembler)? Sounds like strictly the DOS version. In any case, 3 seconds isn't bad. Have you tried COMMAND.COM instead of CMD.EXE? -

submix8c replied to Phaenius's topic in Hardware Hangout
AFAICR, those are the Desktops - pick one of (many) variations.... Linux is flexible compared to Windows (which Browser do you want, etc) depending on the "flavor" (e.g. SUSE) of Linux.
