  1. Might have been your Networking card drivers. I've personally had little to no issue with peer-to-peer connections. While ago I had 180 peer connections (over 200 adding in the seeds) at a time with almost 240kb/sec transfer. Had no issue whatsoever. Was on an nvidia nforce 10/100/1000 networking controller.
  2. Thanks shade, However, I already had those version it seems after comparing files. I jumped the gun as to trying to guess what was causing it. Found out the main reason for the EventSystem errors. I started deleting the eventsystem logs and used my laptop like normal. Then compared what I was doing when the log showed up with fresh errors. .. comes out it was my laptops power saver utility (Toshiba Power Saver) causing it everytime it switched power modes. I have a loose fitting adaptor in the back which causes it to jump between power modes at times. Now if only I could figure out how to have the event system write it's logs onto my ram drive rather than in C:\windows\eslogs... As for other programs silently crashing in the background without an illegal op notice, I don't know exactly what's causing that. I suspect RP might be causing it and will try to reproduce once I get my main desktop here.
  3. I was going through my PC during regular cleanup recently and happen to have come across an Event Log containing multiple errors of the same code type. Seems to be the exact address area's and menu descriptors. Log found under C:\WINDOWS\ESLogs\EventSystem.html Error 2/2/2008 21:16:46.230 Event System 4106 The COM+ Event System raised an unexpected access violation at address 0x71713625, attempting to access address 0xFFFFFFFF. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. ES!DllGetClassObject+0x2291 ES!DllGetClassObject+0xb3 OLE32!OleSetMenuDescriptor+0x66b OLE32!OleRegGetMiscStatus+0xb7e OLE32!OleSetMenuDescriptor+0x1ba OLE32!OleSetMenuDescriptor+0xab OLE32!CoCreateInstanceEx+0x196 OLE32!CoCreateInstance+0x97 OLE32!CoCreateInstance+0x6a SENS+0x57d1 SENS+0x4f81 SHLWAPI!Ordinal124+0x1e4 SHLWAPI!Ordinal124+0x134 KERNEL32!VirtualQueryEx+0x174c KERNEL32!VirtualQueryEx+0x1649 Two of them always occur on system startup. Others happen during the crashes of other programs such as: php.exe make.exe When these programs crash for instance it's usually random when it happens (sometimes not happening at all). There is the usual system sound associated with it. However, there is no 'illegal operation' system error that comes up. It's almost a silent crash (so seems to be the nature of the Event System). Often the programs hang in the background afterward untill manually killed. Usually also leaving 'winoldap' left running till manually killed as well. According to a lookup regarding this error code microsoft states there is a patch for it but it's related to windows 2000-SP4 and is caused by racing conditions in the COM+ system. As stated in the following microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829180 What I'm trying to get at is: Is there any fix or workaround for this that could work for Windows98se at all? Perhaps any of the win2k hotfix files for this would work? Are there any others that have been experiencing this? System Specs: OS: Windows98se v4.1.2222 CPU: Intel Celeron 2.4ghz Ram: 512mb DDR HDrive: 4gb Flash Chipset: Intel 825/855 GM/GME Installed Packs: Tihiy's Revolutions Pack v7.11 MDGx's UnOfficial Service Pack v3.0A2 Maximum Decim's Native USB v3.3 KernelEx v0.3.2a
  4. Perhaps it would be feasible to try forcing the drivers for the x1050 onto the X2600 and see what happens? It could work, just would obviously not support DX10 but then, we won't ever get DX10 to begin with anyway. J7N, which drivers are you referring to as latest? The only ones officially released by ATI/MSI for the 98/me platform support up to 9800 only. Are there other unnofficial ones in the works that function with win98/me or am I missing something?
  5. Try adjusting the decoder options in the FFDSHow video decoder confiuration. I experienced the video lockups but sound still playing due to the quality conrol 'Drop frame on delay' setting. It would catch up after a minute or two but got annoying. Certain formats are cpu/vid intensive. Tried using an H.264 vid on my laptop and only started getting smooth play when enabling 'Resize & aspect' to not only resize to a smaller output but also setting the 'Luma Method' to 'point'. Seems higher quality vids on some systems cause alot of video delay (latency behind the audio). Can see (and adjust setting accordingly) the video delay by enabling the OSD and checking in 'Video Delay'.
  6. Just a followup / update. The link provided for FFDSHOW points to a discontinued branch of it's development. Milan stopped development of it long ago it seems (back in '04). Continued development based on Milan's FFDSHOW branch can be found at the following URL: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ Also to add: http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/ Last version of Haali's Media Splitter that works on win9x was on 03-06-2007 and can be found at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so....cfm/03_06_2007 It is used for the opening and support of MKV video/audio containers.
  7. If I recall - some usb drives are being shipped pre-formatted with NTFS as of late which could be why.
  8. Shouldn't have any trouble. I run the same setup from time to time using RealVNC. Just make sure beforehand you ensure the following: - If it was a PS/2 mouse it used to have. It will complain about a mouse not being connected on boot. Simply check in with the keyboard 'Do not notify me again'. - You must have a video card w/ drivers installed. Most if not all VNC's are dependant on the video card for resolution and screen polling. - As previously stated. Make sure the bios also has error reporting turned off for keyboards. Such an option would typically be 'All but Keyboard' under the standard settings.
  9. Just to chime in a lil bit - the last version for winamp that works on 98 would be 5.35. LAST - FREE - Nullsoft Winamp 5.35 (CD support lost in 5.35) --- http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client...music-7plus.exe For a slightly older version that still had Cd support, you can find 5.24 at the following link: http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=winamp Also, for the Shuffle-db application that is already prebuilt without the need for python, you can find it at their sourceforge link. The downloads contain both the [pre-built] standalone exe and the python version to suit ones tastes. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=136446
  10. Hasn't been fixed yet it seems. However, in a previous post a working link can be found courtesy of MDGx. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=704193
  11. The same error occurs with some other internet explorer browser versions. The reasoning behind your problem is due to the <script> tags being prematurely closed. For it to work in IE you MUST end every <script> tag with and end </script> expecially when using IE. Otherwise IE thinks the whole page is encased in a <script>. This issue was solved in the following thread. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=538840 .. if that doesn't still work for you then I don't know. Edit in: I really like your work. Looks very well done
  12. This could prove useful for users running webservices such as an HTTP WebServer and the like.
  13. This should do the trick for ya. It's very bare-bones so you'll need to tailor the rest of it to your needs. urlframe.htm <frameset rows=150,*><frame src=top.htm></frame><frame name=btm src=bottom.htm></frame></frameset> top.htm <form onsubmit='parent.btm.location="http://"+url.value;'><input name=url><input type=submit value=go></form> bottom.htm Empty frame - will show entered url
  14. I've had very good results using the External HardDisk cases distrubuted by CompUSA so far. However, There was a brand (which i cant remember the brand of for the life of me at the moment . . . began with a "A") which I had poor results with (would work for a bit - could access the drive but stopped being able to read/write with it unstill restarted the extenal drive after around 15-20 mins of use).
  15. You can put it there the same as you would any FORM elements. Such as: <form method=post action='insert_login_script_url_here.php'>User: <input name=user> Pass: <input name=pass type=password> <input type=submit value=Login></form> That is just a basic framework for what you're looking for. You'll need to fill in the FORM tags and the rest as you deem needed to submit the data right to your authentication script. You can take this form and insert it into a table or DIV tag to get the desired effect as you wish. As long as the inputs are anywhere between the FORM tags, you can insert tables/divs and the like between the FORM tags to further your positioning/styling. You can further style the fields using images using CSS for further graphical tweaking. Info to do so can be found at the following: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/fancy-form-design-css To get it near the top, simply put it early in the HTML of your page where it's desired to come before.
  16. Check if there are screwed-in access panels on the bottom. If so the dimms should be easily accessable from one of them. It's that way on my Toshiba but unsure if it would be the same for yours.
  17. Updating your GDI would be a good start really. Might have ended up with an older version on their at some point. The most recent ones you can find for win98 which would be verson 4.90.3003 Info about it: http://www.mdgx.com/files/918547.php Update Link: http://www.mdgx.com/files/ME918547.EXE It will not install normally on win98 so you'd need to unpack the installer and right-click -> install on the inf file inside of it. As for posting images, press PrntScrn and then paste it into any image editor you wish.
  18. Do the reverse in this case as it will tailor to your needs: .special {} .special tr {} .special td {} If you wish to combine it all into a single line with all matching attributes... .special, .special tr, .special td {} With this you'll need but a single class= in your table tag and that is all. Some much older browsers (NetScape Navigator 4.x for example) however will not like this and will not render the <td>'s through this css unless you treat the tr's indivually in this way. Which would involve tagging the <tr>'s with a class if you wish to render the <td>'s through CSS using '.special TD'. Additionally, if you are making ALL tables/cells/rows the same colour and want to make them all conform to your CSS, you can do a quick and diry way for it without any classing. TABLE, TR, TD {} or BODY TR, BODY TD {}
  19. Personally, I see it best to just move whatever you had on your desktop to a folder like C:\moved and then startup with your windows98 boot disk and type: attrib -r -s -h C:\windows\*.dat del C:\windows\*.dat Then do as you would a reinstall. This way the old registry is not reused and files are overwritten as neccessary ALso your driver files are still available, most of your programs will still not need to be reinstalled as they are still in C:\program files, and you'll be running on a relatively fresh install again without the need for a reformat. A complete reformat is really too drastic of a measure >.>
  20. I recall him mentioning in his thread at one point that it was marked 'lame'-skin because it uses some 'lame' methods and tricks to be able to provide the skinning support of many things through his skinning engine.
  21. You cannot format the drive that windows is currently being run on from within windows. Windows will lock files to prevent them from being accessed meaning the drive will also be in use. The worst thing one could ever try is to format the C:/ drive with the windows install from inside windows. What you'll need to do is create a windows boot disk. Done from inside the control panel -> add/remove programs -> startup disk tab. Then boot into MS-dos off that. Make sure before you exist windows that you have your windows product KEY available. If you don't have it at hand or lost the cd/case with the key, you can get it by: 1) going to start -> run -> regedit 2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> software -> microsoft -> windows -> current version and look in the right for "ProductKey" in the right panel. 3) Now boot ontp the startup disk you made earlier 4) Insert your windows98 CD and check to see if drive D: if available. 5) If so, you can either run setup on D:\setup or right now format C: and then run the setup on D:\setup
  22. URI = Unique Resource Identifier URI = In http://msfn.org/board, '/board' is the URI. Basically the part of web address after the domain is a URI. As for us being vulnerable, there is no real way to tell unless we had proof-of-concept code. Although systems with IE7 are the ones being affected I think we could safely say we're safe from it.
  23. You should be more than plenty fine with that computer really. To be honest, you don't even need anything that strong for hosting just a few sites as well as email. I've run a couple sites myself off an older 350mhz PC with very respectable speed and response. What server software are you planning to use? I would recommend using Abyss WebServer (http://aprelium.com) as it is free, light, fast, and easy to setup while supports PHP and ASP (Natively supports ASP). As for FTP - you're somewhat on your own there. I've heard of GuildFTP being somewhat decent for general use but haven't given it a whirl as I use SamiFTP for any times I need FTP. SMTP is a tossup - have not set up or dealt with setting the such up yet.
  24. Turning off LoadPowerProfile will prevent windows from loading the user-selected and/or defines power savings profile under 'Power options' in the control panel. Meaning removing that from loading will disable turning off the monitor or drives for instance after a certain amount of idle time. It can be turned back on by going into your power options, making your changes, and selecting OK but you'd have to do that everytime unless you enable LoadPowerProfile.
  25. If it helps any - I found this old thread which pretty much covers the exact same thing this thread is after... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...1486&st=-10
