  1. Running an Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra 256mb (Original reference board). Having the occasional issues with it completely blanking out when changing to a dos box however. Might be likely due to my PSU not being strong enough (9amps on the +12v Rail ). Closest image I can find of a frontal image of the exact card I have.
  2. Nothing special, haven't changed it much as of late but here goes nothing.
  3. Axialis Icon Workshop can do that. When you save in the other formats, ensure you uncheck the icon compression. Additionally, if you are including any icon size larger than 64px-128px, you must remove all colour depts lower than 32 bit. That means it will not work with such sizes if you also include 256colour icons and lower.
  4. 1) I do not have another PSU available at the moment. Current PSU is a RaidMax ATX12V [Model RX-380K (KY-480atx)] [ Link ]. However, I'd thought at first it could have been a power shortage. I'd disconnected/removed all but the essential of devices (HD, CPU fan), all other add-in cards, etc. but to no avail as the issue still occured. Furthermore, I'd underclocked the card some to reduce power use/requirements even more but to no avail. The drivers have an indicator if there isn't enough power and clocks as neecessary but that has yet to occur. There was never an issue under any load during gameplay regardless of the such. 2) Motherboard is an EPoX 9nda3-j [ Link ] 3) I do not have another system available with AGP4/8 capabilities, my other system is actually a laptop. 4) Yes, I've also tried multiple other fresh installs each with differing driver versions but to no avail. Note: Newer bios' seemingly have issues regarding fastwrites being enabled. Therefor I'd disabled fastwrites through the Motherboard BIOS thinking it would hopefully resolve this issue on an older bios but alas, it didn't. Additionally, this issue also sometimes occurs when booting into windows. Once it loads DOS to boot into windows the screen will have the same symptoms instantly without the flickering (perhaps the card having an issue with VESA support?) such as Monitor lowpowerstate and full system lockup. ...So could be a board+card incompatibility or gfxcard bios issue since it even occurs prior to loading any actual video drivers. The Motherboards BIOS has been already updated hence my seeking out an updated card bios in hopes it resolves this issue.
  5. Alrighty, here's a tuffy. I'd gotten an Nvidia 6800 Ultra 256mb off ebay a while back. It works.. for the most part save for a rather disturbing issue. Intermittently, without a set timeframe.. it will be just fine untill it comes down to opening any application that involves the use of the commandline window after running for a while. Be it cmd/command, php.exe, etc.. doesn't matter. Differing driver versions do not seem to resolve the issue either. The issue being, upon doing so the screen flickers every 5-10 seconds about 3-4 times as if struggling to set to a different resolution (but isn't).. then completely locks the PC as well as producing a 'no signal' type response on the monitor (as if in full monitor powersavings mode). The core temps are normal (53c idle 67c under load) so it couldn't be an overheating issue. Tried whatever I can to fix the issue to no avail so decided to begin searching for an update BIOS. This is where the tough part comes in... The board was intially labeled as an original Reference Board from the buyer so was touted as being a regular NVidia-Branded card (not that of any other sub-company such as XFX, BFG, etc). Additionally, googling the boards BIOS version came up with not a single match. As if the BIOS version is such an odd number nobody has ever made mention of it. It's a reference design board, with Nvidia logo on the fan, Nalu character faceplace, dual MOLEX power connectors, dual Digitial Output. Being used on an NForce3 Mainboard (EPoX 9nda3-j). Bios version (according to nvidia control panel and sticker on back of board): 5.40.02.05.11 Additional numbers found on the back of the board: Nvidia 180-10201-0000-A02 Model: P201 900-10201-0300-000 A 600-10201-0008-200 W (barcode stickers) 00629040001040 47F20100080293 2W Questions are: - Is this really an original reference board or an unknown brand just strictly based off it? - Additionally, what would be the newest or 'best' bios for it? I've found alot of NVidia BIOS's for the 6800U on MKVTech but unsure which NVidia 6800U bios to use since I am not 100% sure of the exact card manufacturer.
  6. If the letter shows up during boot in DOS, you can try this utility to remove the drive letter assignment altogether. DLMANIP: http://sta.c64.org/dlmanipdoc.html Can use in your autoexec.bat as needed with 'DLMANIP DELETE <driveletter>'
  7. The 82.16 drivers don't seem to have the shutdown issue whilst also providing alot of widescreen resolutions. Perhaps try using them as well? http://www.bfgtech.com/CMDocs/BFGTech/NVID...x(82_16)int.zip
  8. Using ADVAPI32.DLL from ME->98 conflicts with GameGuard/theMida when trying to load an online game called "Mabinogi". The following error as as follows: Reverting ADVAPI32.DLL to v4.80.0.1675 resolves this issue. Another issue with gameguard/theMidas was resolved and linked to the following thread for completeness: 98 SE 3.0BETA 3 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=787892
  9. Trying to figure out the exact cause but installing any form of the USP (2.0a, 3.0b2/3) causes GameGuard/theMida to fail when loading the online game 'mabinogi'. Installing kernelex or rp causes no issues, it's only on the installation of the uSP that causes it (even as the first install on a fresh install of 98). it only happens with the installation of the Main Updates. Trying to go through some of the files and narrow down what it could be but I haven't any idea where exactly to start other than working file by file individually. edit: Updating kernel32.dll from 4.10.2222 causes the following error with mabinogi gameguard/theMida: Restoring kernel32.dll to 4.10.2222 resolves this issue. Could be either a block on version number or an incompatibility with its gameguard w/ kernel32.dll v4.10.2225 . I doubt it being a checksum check as its gameguard/themida has nothing against kernelex being installed.... Another issue with gameguard/theMidas was resolved and linked to the following thread for completeness: 98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=787902
  10. Am I the only one to experience this issue of no sound from java applications? All this time I've used the microsoft Java for all my needs but now a few online games and utilities require the use of Suns Java now. I've tried several versions starting from 5.0 update all the way to update 16 and as far as 6.0 Update 7. I cannot seem to get any sound whatsoever. Even SUN's JavaSoundDemo fails to produce sound. It seemingly skips over the audio samples or not even play them at all. I've additionally tried it on my other system with no avail. Has anyone discovered any solutions to this or am I stuck in a rut? Been doing heavy googling to find solutions on a *nix install but nothing for Windows 9x/NT. Platforms both use uSP3.0b2/3, Revolutions Pack 7.11, KernelEx 0.35. Audio output on system #1: USB Audio Device / Yamaha DS-XG YMF-724 Audio output on system #2: Soundmax Digital Audio (integrated)
  11. Decided to give ME->98 another try due to odd experiences with it last time which I haven't had now. However, I ran into a couple issues relating to an audio device after installation. I'd installed packs in this order: USP3.0b2 / 3 (tried both in different installs) MD's usb 2 drivers ME->98 Ater installing the ~700 file option, my 'USB Audio Device' cannot be loaded through NTKERN / MMDEVLDR. When I manage to rig it load without errors, it does not show at all under multimedia properties (MMSYS.CPL). If the device was previously installed prior to installing ME->98, the device will work but I am unable to change the preferred playedback device under mmsys.cpl. I can change all the other options (including midi device), but trying to change the main playback device does not stick and will not change. I use 2 audio playback devices for different reasons and so frequently change between them daily, so this issue is causing alot of frustration. Is there any way to install it without installing the USB/driver INF updates and only the network stack and other files? Installing ME->98 fixes an issue I was having with Trillian astra and stablizes a few other things otherwise and really want to get it working without issues. The multimedia device issue is the only issue I'm having. For note: the two devices I'm switching between are: (WDM) USB Audio Device (Plantronics USB DSP v4 audio interface) (VXD) Yamaha DS-XG PCI Audio CODEC edit: I tried transplanting the files dated from 2000 (assuming those were the ones from the ME install) from c:\windows & c:\windows\system, the audio worked fine but the Control panel applets locked up on any changes afterward. Have yet to figure out why.
  12. So far I'm trying it out and it works like a charm. Additionally, it seems to have little to zero impact on resources as well according to the resource meter. This is a great treat due to the little to zero resource impact for what it does. Just keep note of a few things when using it: 1) On startup, it samples whatever is on your screen at the current moment for it's "transparency", so for a cleancut effect - make sure it loads up on a clean desktop. If you move any gadgets or whatnot around, you'll need to exit and restart rainmeter for the clean-look again. 2) You may need to add 'rainmeter.exe=1' under [AdvancedGDI]in kexver.ini if you run into rendering isues with it's background since it doesn't update the background due to lack of real layering in win98. (Note: This is noticed using RP7 on my lappy.) 3) If you wish to remove a gadget or 'skin', its best to right-click the object and select 'close skin' under 'skin menu' from there. Closing a skin/gadget using the right-click on rainmeter systray icon to close them causes them to be closed from the top down in list, not the one you intended to close. 4) For a 'gadgets only' use, simply uncheck anything checked in under configs -> sidebar 5) FOr any skins/gadgets you use, I'd recomment you right-click -> skin menu-> position -> 'On Desktop' to keep from overlapping anything with its 'faked' background transparency.
  13. My reasoning still stands. However, I stated it rather agressively in this rather old thread. Though to summarize my statement (I apologize for the agressiveness in it ahead of time), here is the main part of it:
  14. My primary desktop which runs double-time as a web/file server had about 4.5 months of uptime till power had gone out due to an accident down the road knocking out the power for our road (someone ran into the telephone pole hard enough to knock it over) . Another time was around 7 weeks but the PSU fan had failed and needed replacement. .. I really need to get a ups. -.-'
  15. Ah, bloody beautiful! Been looking for the such for quite some time but had no such luck. I tried to convert win2k xb360 drivers over in the past (controller only worked as far as detect but controller buttons showed half down/pressing on their own ) . Can finally use one of these babies over my older ps2->adaptor for ps2 controllers now. Only need my desktop back now to give it a try. -.-' Hope you don't mind but I've mirrored a copy of these drivers on my site as a 'just in case' measure.
  16. My Win98 Lappy, for the month of June.
  17. The easiest way I can see this being done is to have your shell32 you want to use somehwere such as C:\replace. Then goto start -> run -> sfc-> select 'extract file from installation disk' and type in 'shell32.dll' and click start. In the restore from path, enter C:\replace and save file in C:\windows\system . it may then ask if you want to make a backup, go ahead and do so. Then OK. It will likely ask you to restart to apply the changes so do so.
  18. If i'm correct, that shell32.dll is updates by the unofficial service pack from these boards. Additionally, you might want to install the KernelEX project as it patches in unicode API's into some files. Long ago, mabinogi worked just fine for me really back when I was playing on the JP servers before it went international.
  19. You know, it JUST occured to me. Have you checked your router settings to ensure 'AP Isolation' is not enabled?
  20. Ack! I apologize for that! The only one that appeared to be or construed as warez I have removed. The rest that I have are mostly win98 enhancements/add-ons/patches/dummy files (stubs)/ & debug tools provided by projects from MSFN here which I'd archived. Others are simply other freeware and misc tools. It was my fault on the part of that single file that raised flags. I'd done a straight copy from my localhost and didn't think twice about what I still had locally in there. Link has been re-added and I appreciate the heads up. The text/ads at the bottom are tossed in by the free host I'm temporarily using (t35.com) and annoyingly break validation as well. I will put a wee bit more work into those as after looking hard, the gray-on-gray doesn't work as well as I'd wanted. Thinking of changing the text to more of an off-blue to more match the logo. All but the text was hand done using MSPaint and the text / format conversion was done using PaintShop Pro 7.0 so, roughness will be expected. I might need to change image editors as PSP7 seems to be overall poor with small font sizes as the anti-aliasing blurs them badly. I will put more work into clarifying them this week once I get the chance. I really appreciate the criticism as I'm trying to get it 'just right' for once. .. I was just never too great with buttons and converting to 16-colour images tend to kill some gradation. Hopefully my next pass with making the buttons will come out better with a clearer text. ^_^ Edit: T35 seems to be having server issues again. The PHP interpreter they are using is throwing out blank output with nothing other than their advertising.
  21. Just throwing this up here to see what others think of it really.: http://asakura.t35.com It is a new personal site of mine after having run the 'MechWarrior Resource Depot' for years and feeling the need for a fresh look and more usable layout. Priority is for a clean look, small page size and low bandwidth friendly (16-color GIF's for minimum size impact). All the while being PHP based (till now relied more on pure html-based pages than server-side scripting). It validates normally through W3C, however - due to the free host I'm on it throws 3 errors (sloppy ad-code insertion by host). That will change once I can get back onto a reliable connection and getting my desktop/server back as well as restoring the MWR. Thoughts, Feedback, Criticism?
  22. Set your gateway to your router IP and enable DNS (set your router IP in the dns search order). See how that works out. I've not used netBIOS in years really so rather rusty on setup.
  23. Strange as it is - I reinstalled to correct a corruption on my drive earlier today and found out a small issue (again) cropped up. I didn't seemingly have it untill I installed SP3b2 and then KernelEx. AFter installing both, use of a command prompt will cause the dos box to cause a fault at random intervals (could be within 10 seconds or within 5 mins). If it happens during say , a ping or ipconfig; it causes the whole windows session to lockup. So, anyone else notice this or am I just losing it? I get the same thing on my desktop from one of the earlier 3.0 beta's as well. I never mentioned it before because at the time I wasn't sure what was roughly causing it.
  24. I can't reproduce that! Any particular pages causing those issues? Just tried it on a virgin install of 98 w/ kernelEx and both issues seem to have been resolved in that instance. I have a feeling it had to do with using RP7.11 as well although I am not firm on that thought yet as my install was heavily 'tweaked'. Once it gets to the point where it happens again I'll be able to root out the cause.
  25. It should work since it's just another mass storage device. However, although doubtful - you might end up with one formatted using NTFS which would mean a reformat into FAT32 but that could be the only real drawback. As far as listed as win98/etc compatible, most usb thumbdrives nowdays for example list win2k/xp as minimum but work 100%. A few aren't even listing win2k anymore for that matter but still work fine. So, should be the same for USB hard-drives. Only *cough*'real'*cough* requirement for an OS is due to the software that comes pre-loaded onto the drive which is often not used anyway. Such software may not be compatible such as the U3-Software on a [specific manufacturers] drive (junk anyway; loads on drive insert and takes forever to even load). Why not consider getting a Hard-Drive enclosure instead? This way if the drive dies you can easily open it up and swap out the hard drive itself. Also versatile as you can also swap it out for 'adapted' laptop drives or cd drives. Which even further makes it usable to swap-in an HD from another PC for drive cloning/imaging or even recovery. As for driver, your best bet would be Maximus-Decims USB drivers. From personal experience, they've yet to fail me. Your Mileage May Vary...
