  1. Thanks, Ziggy! I kind of suspected something like that. On occasions where I have found errors in Microsoft documents, I "reported" it to them, and they were most gratefull. It'd be great if you tell them, and I'm sure they will update it. You could also add a pointer to this thread to help them "understand". Again, thanks for sharing that!
  2. As I understand it, Microsoft's Policy has always been to support the current SP, and the current SP-1. All new hotfixes (yes, there will be some even AFTER and FOR SP2) will have versions of the updated files for both SP1 and SP2, and no longer for XP Gold. SP1 should thus be supported until SP3 comes out, scheduled for sometime in ... 2007/2008? So, if there is someone willing to do the updating, this thread can certainly be used for quite a while more. My suggestion would be to create a similar thread for SP2. For the non-believers, wait a month or two, when XPCREATE and the new hotfixes will be back in business!
  3. Odd. I haven't looked at the Dutch Hotfix List. The non-English lists are either blank, or those contributed by users like yourself. The simplest workaround is to put SP1A in the SPACKS directory, set DLAUTO=NO in XPCREATE.INI, run XPCREATE once, and it will create a local source, with SP1A integrated. From there you can set DLAUTO=YES, and do the rest, assuming the rest of the list is OK. However, manually slipstreaming the SP has already accomplished this. As for the XP Home error, not sure either, but it could certainly be something as simple as using an XP Pro hotfix in XP Home. This would, again, be due to a faulty list. And again, the best way to test is to set DLAUTO=NO, and find the correct set of hotfixes. Sorry I cannot be of more assistance ... Welcome to MSFN!
  4. Typos. I hate 'em! Thanks for sharing that, ank. At least the answer was simple, though I imagine the search for it was tedious ...
  5. Wow. Looks like SP2 sent hordes of users to MSFN. 641 users on line at once. From the looks of things, either it was American insomniacs (5:09 AM EST), or the European/Asian side really showed up in force. Thanks, again, xper and co., for making this possible!
  6. Thanks, ank. It's always a pleasure to see those that are ready, willing and able to help out!
  7. Initial tests show that XPCREATE works fine with both a slipped SP2 source, or by setting DLAUTO=NO in XPCREATE.INI, and including SP2 in the SPACKS folder. Fret not, Wraith, I remember ... In fact the error was so ... careless ... that I was too embarresed to ever post what it was. Have a few (too many), and you'll see you are safe now! But it did make me pull some hairs out, and even re-write the whole thing.
  8. You got it! I used to spit out more frequent updates, but the June 11 one is holding up pretty nice, the only real error's coming from those troublesome hotfix lists, and determining the local source version. Now that I think of it, perhaps that should be a user defined setting, or at least a user overrideable setting. Anyway, as my Old Man has long taught me ... patience builds character!
  9. I think he's just trying to make me nervous! I also thik I will prefer to do IE first, and then the RunOnceEx purge. Or maybe a purge, IE, and another purge. To be continued ...

  11. Hmmm. Never thought about it, as SVCPACK.INF is kind of the heart and soul of XPCREATE. As suggested, you could expand, edit and compress the SVCPACK.IN_ file in I386 of the final output (CDROOT), and burn your CD from there. I would think you could also just place your compressed version in FILESCD\I386, and it will overwrite the XPCREATE version at the last moment. Give it a go, but I'm afraid you are on your own on this one! It is deleted, along with all the other files in NEWFILES at the begining of an XPCREATE run. Not that it matters: files are only placed into NEWFILES, never used from there. It is just a place you can look at the files that XPCREATE has modified: they are all moved there after XPCREATE completion.
  12. I know how you feel: I cannot understand the Estonian version, either! More seriously, I should have paid better attention to the log file. I really wish that happened on a foreign version. The next question is what version are you running this on? It looks like English sometimes, but other times it seems to be a mixture. I think the problem lies there somehow. Specifically, look at the output of the directory listings. The text is English, but the numbers have strange characters instead of commas: 2ÿ604ÿ769ÿ280 bytes free Any more clues you can give me?
  13. As I recall, I never got this one to work cleanly from SVCPACK.INF. There have been some workarounds, from ToBe as I recall. The problem is basically that part of the DX install completes upon reboot, and wipes out the update. However, DX9C renders the update obsolete. XPCREATE, when updated, will be using DX9C. As for the "/integrate" switch, most, if not all, of these newer updates are backwards compatable with the old, single letter switches that XPCREATE still uses. I also prefer to manually integrate, as opposed to the built in "integrate" option, as it gives me better control over the integration process. Welcome, funnyguy, to MSFN!
  14. Perplexing, indeed. I cannot help but think that this is not XPCREATE related, as XPCREATE does not mess with any of the settings as such. It integrates the updated files, and then runs the updates anyway. An interesting test would be to use the SVCPACK.INF file and directory on a standard (e.g. non-XPCREATED) source, and see if the problem persists. This would narrow the problem down to either the integration, or the execution of the hotfixes. If I think of any thing more, I'll let you know. If you figure it out, let us know!
  15. Interesting. I haven't tried the both of them together yet. I really don't want to install IE6SP1 at GuiRunOnce. One part of my getting it working from SVCPACK.INF had to do with forcing a purge of RunOnceEx. It seems that SP4 puts some stuff there (I think it was SP4) that conflicted with 2KCREATE additions. We'll soon see! I am one of those non-XP people myself, using 2K3 server most of the time. However, with a combination of firewalls and care network behaviour, I manage to hold off on the latest updates, and have even been able to go over six months without a re-install. My key is not installing any software, and a secure IE.
  16. Indeed, SP2 has rendered much of this useless, at least for XP. DX9C has also eliminated the need for the DX updates on 2K and 2K3. I've not yet added the code to use DX9C, but I have an old version around somewhere that does have it. It seems that the redistributable DX9C CAN be installed silently, which was not the case with DX9B (Thanks, Spheris!). However, the file size is considerably larger. Then again, we will be able to download this directly from MS. So ... it's a case of give a little, take a little. I expect to have this sorted out sometime in the begining of September.
  17. On that subject ... the way the boot sector works is that it will prompt with the "Press any key to boot from CD" message if a bootable partition is detected, otherwise it will boot directly to the CD. Thanks for the input, MicjustMic, and ... Welcome to MSFN!
  18. Indeed, that is slated for the next release. Just for fun ... could you cut and paste the text portion of your PRODSPEC.INI file? (Sorry, Vel Straty, I cannot remember if you already did that.) By the way ... Welcome to MSFN, adeu!
  19. Times have changed since the 60's. If athieism could be considered "radical", I guess I'm, safest hiding out on the Internet. Hindu is cool: I actually have two first cousins are Hindu, who have had mixed, and opposite, reactions adjusting to the U.S. culture. Anyway ... I hope your XPCREATION problems are NOT endless!
  20. Geez, last again. Guess I gotta get a faster computer and connection (this mobile/laptop combination just ain't cuttin' it!) For what it's worth, I've had pretty good luck recommending OnTrack's tool. Can't remember if it's called Data Recovery, or Data Advisor, on deleted files. Fortunatly, I've never had the need myself. Winternals Disk Commander has saved me more than once on disks that headed south, you know, the one's that make that "click click" noise. In any event, glad you've got something, Bâshrat the Sneaky. That must be a pleasant feeling after bumming out all morning!
  21. Welcome. I remember it, because I was as happy as a pig in poop when I discovered he shared it.
  22. Add this to the [Display] section of WINNT.SIF: [Display] ConfigureAtLogon=0 AutoConfirm=1 Thanks go out to enuffsaid for this one.
  23. Aw, come on Alanoll: Why, just last night I posted something in the Unattended forum thinking of you, and how there hadn't been any clean up for you for a while! (I guess I ran out of beer too early!)
  24. Hey, how come it says prathapml in Green now?!?!? Cool, another one to ask favors of!!! Just kiddin' ya, prathapml. Thanks for the links: I was waiting for the "official" word.
  25. @homiebrah: No kiddin'. Now if we could only get a mod to move it over there! @Peabody: Just replace the existing UXTHEME.DL_ with the one linked to in the first post of this thread AFTER slipstreaming SP2, and (obviously) before burning your CD.
