  1. @WhtKnight: The directory naming conventions are "defined" by Microsoft, and can be found in the Unattended Guide ... somewhere. The actual names is not so important, the importance is in the (alphabetical) order in which they will be processed. First should be Motherboard Chipset drivers (001). As I remember, Mass Storage Devices, i.e. Disks, are number 6 (006). The reasoning behind this is to avoid conflicts. If you are only installing the RAID drivers, there will be no conflicts, and the naming will become less important. I would suggest installing only the RAID drivers until you have mastered that, to avoid confusion and ease debugging. The Drivers Forum has a few threads that discuss RAID drivers, and TXTSETUP.SIF modifications. The method XPCREATE uses, and I believe (obviously) is the best is discussed on the GreenMachine Web Site, I have yet to see it fail ... http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/READING/addraid.htm As for installs using ISS files, that is a horse of a different color. You are not simply making the drivers available for Windows during install, rather running the vendors installation package. I have tried that once or twice, but really have very little experience with it. Again, I would direct you to the Drivers Forum, but remember it is more of an install than a driver question. I hope this gets you going. So much for obscurity!
  2. @enuffsaid: I would think that the screenshot you'd like to see is a one shot deal, and that gabriel_buc cannot reporduce it until he re-installs XP. He also mentions the "mini-setup" of WMP upon first run. Perhaps you've disabled that mini-setup using some registry setting (I have eliminated it by removing a reg key called StubPath, as well as a few others). I don't have that option either, but I'm on Windows 2003 Server. EDIT:: While I'm at it ... Happy Birthday, gabriel_buc!
  3. DEL "%AllUsersprofile%\Desktop\Alco*.lnk"
  4. As I've said earlier, test one modification at a time, and you will find the guilty party. I believe that the hives are read right at the begining of installation. I tend to suspect the modifications that you make to the hive, and not the fact that you have modified them, especially if you are adding values, not just modifying existing values. In any event, diligent trial and error always works ...
  5. I suspect you are in the same boat as noted in this post: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=23246 I don't have an answer at the moment, nor any time for the next couple weeks, at which point I will be listing an update. I can only sugest you do a fresh install of a "real" english version (accepting defaults from the start, not changing them back later), and try that. Sorry ...
  6. Actually, DisabledTrucker, I have found the file I was looking d=for, thus my BIG THANKS to Bilou_Gateux. Whether that is the best file for what I need remains to be seen. As for Pest Control, I really dislike Anti Virus programs in general, and only use one when I see something has gone amiss with my installation, and I am quite sure I have "caught" something. Thanks for your help and suggestions, particularly the links to similar files. For what it's worth McAfee does pick up WGET. I don't know if it would "clean" it: never tried.
  7. Yes, CDSOURCE becomes the original CD plus Service Pack slipstreams. CDROOT becomes CDSOURCE plus hotfix, etc., slipstreams. As for speeding things up, I have no answer. You can use CDROOT, and make modifications there, and create an ISO each time. I think things should be tested one by one, so I make a few modifications, start up VPC, let it run while working on the next modifications. If the last run is OK, I go on to the next. The key for me is planning, and having something else to do while VPC is running. I don't know of a guide, but I believe you can press Shift-F11 during setup, and see the billboards of the install process. Good luck ...
  8. Thanks again, DisabledTrucker, but CMDGet really was what I was thinking of. Strange part is that I still don't find the first link I saw for it.
  9. Actually, I knew I left a copy on someone's machine, so I had them do the command line McAfee Virus Scan to find it. Just wasn't the correct version (or name). On the other hand, it did not find CMDGet ...
  10. Never too late: checking it out now. In fact, I am leaning towards WGET at this point, for many reasons, but I was going out of my mind looking for that other one. Who said I was stubburn?
  11. Thanks again, urgan, for your ideas. We are far from the limits of a Command Script, it's just that they scare most people from going further. The Type I hotfixes are renamed according to their hotfix number. The Type II presented a problem, so I dropped that. I'm not sure yet which route I'll take, but there are certainly many options. If named with 8.3 conventions from the get go, the names will be kept. I think ... at least for Type I and Type II hotfixes. In any event I am certainly not too picky what the name is, as long as it doesn't create a conflict. I am not one that wants to remove directories or change names just because they are not pretty: I've learned long ago to simply direct my attention elsewhere. So, thanks for the food for thought. I'm not sure this will make it into the next update, but even minor bugs do merit correction!
  12. Just wanted to put everyone's mind to rest: I was wrong about the WGET name, and Bilou_Gateux did get me what I was looking for. Thanks!
  13. BIG THANKS go out to Bilou_Gateux for ending my 2 day quest. I was wrong, it was CMDGET that I was thinking of, not WGET.
  14. I've seen something like that recently running an English version of XP, using a non-English local settings. (Estonian in the example I saw, posted in the last week or two.) I suspect your case is similar in Latvia. I still do not have an answer. Perhaps you can provide a bit more information for when I have the time to debug it.
  15. I'm afraid I need to give you my standard reply: make a XPCREATION with desired hotfixes and service packs, and then take that as the baseline for nLite. If there are any problems afterwards, please post them in the nLite thread: I cannot debug that part.
  16. Thanks, urgan, for pointing that out. Sounds logical, but strange that I've not run across it earlier. I must admit, I wish it wasn't true ... I guess my easiest option is to copy them all together with long file names first, and then with short file names after. What's a few more hundred Mbytes: XPCREATE already needs a couple Gbytes ... Thanks again.
  17. Sounds like a lot of trouble for such a small requirement ... Anyway, that's another one of the reasons I insist on using a real, authentic, original CD. Glad you got it figured out.
  18. The easiest way to tell the difference is by the icon. Type I is blue and white, Type II is not. There is some more information about how to make the list here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=139066 Good luck!
  19. I cannot remember what you posted before you edited it ... but most of the drivers can be integrated one way or another. Looks like you did find whatever information you needed, though, even if it was non conclusive. As for "sneak back into anonymity", not a prayer! Welcome, WhtKnight from down under, to MSFN!
  20. For the many of you that are certainly wondering ... I still haven't found it! Gotta be here somewhere ...
  21. That's it, RaveRod. Since I already dug out my cleaner, here it is: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ais\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bfc\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.8\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\Access.Application.10\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.8\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.psd\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xls\Excel.Sheet.8\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip\CompressedFolder\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mpp\MSProject.Project.9\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.6\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\Access.Application.11\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pub\Publisher.Document.11\ShellNew] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.vsd\Visio.Drawing.11\ShellNew]I have on link to that file to run it, and another link to edit it, and just click on it when a program puts back my modification. The worst offender id Adobe Photoshop, which adds the entry everytime it is run.
  22. That's it: UnattendSwitch. Causes Windows to skip that whole "Connect to Internet, Register, Make User" stuff. Implemented for SysPrep, I believe: you are not supposed to ship it out that way. Common error is to call it UnattendedSwitch.
  23. @war59312: Thanks. I saw that one, and that's not it. But thanks for taking the time. @decoy5657: I'll have tpo check out that robocopy. I'm not sure why I have this fixation for one specific file/version ... but I do. Thanks all, for your suggestions and help. I've just read the last 3 months of XPCREATE posts to no avail. So ... I'm still looking. It was just so small, and seemed to do exactly what I needed.
  24. Thanks, Chaos2, but that wasn't it, either. I wish that the person who posted it was around ... but I suspect they are off on vacation. Thanks again.
  25. Numinous did post a method for this, but I can't seem to find that (either ... ) at the moment.
