FYI: WinSxS is Windows Side-by-Side, which has nothing to do with .NET. It contains different versions of system files, so that older applications with older dll's will run properly without overwriting newer dll's. Surprisingly, it works perfectly, however, it takes up a good chunk of disk space. It's either that, or have severe problems with dll files, like we had years ago with Win9x. I thought they were more linked. But I guess all .Net framework 1, 2, 3 files can be found in winsxs. dotnet 1 was 150MB, dotnet2 was 250MB and dotnet3 I don't know. And anyway, I don't think a 1GB folder is needed nor wishable. What would be the worst thing you could get ? Error such lib was not found ? Google and that's fixed within one single minute.

Makes sense : XPize (and reshacking in general) is long to install. And everything takes more computing time before T-9.

how f***ed up is this next generation?
Camarade_Tux replied to ripken204's topic in General Discussion
A 10 yo boy cries for anything. Also, if you want the mtv of 20 years ago, you'll also need the musicians and groups of 20 years ago. I've been a lot fatter than I am now (>80kgs at 16 or so). I slimmed down to less than 70kgs but now I'm 74kgs (I think). I never played video games a lot but I was fat. The thing that made me slim was maybe The Matrix. This probably sound strange but it was funny to see them do all these moves and this made me realize I just couldn't move or handle anything; I was really weak and I simply couldn't stand this. In fact, I now realize I had no reason to move. In today's world, everything can be done without harass. But now I appreciate being able to do fast everything I want. -
this is expected behavior for all your apps, since all these applications were installed under XP, why would you expect them to work in Vista? there is no registry information telling vista how to load the programs let alone where the applications reside. if you were to boot back in to XP, your XP drive will be C: again. Then all your apps will work in XP. if you want your apps to work in vista you have 2 options 1. reinstall them on your vista Partition 2. Upgrade your XP partiton to Vista, i did this with my XP install and 98% of my apps came back working the upgrade proccess has radically been changed, if you still don't trust it though, reinstall all your apps in you Vista partition. As far as I'm concerned, the problem remains : why aren't drive letters kept. When I browsed my drives for the first time under Vista, I really 'ed.

I saw a list of updates that were not needed anymore when slipstreaming IE7. However, I can't find this list again. Could someone help me ? Thanks.

Blue screen STOP 0x000000 A5 when testing WinXP slipstreamed package

I visited hardware-update.com and this is only ad. I'm wondering if one of the driver/program itself is not faulty. -
Had the same thing. And I used Vista's setup to create the new partition. Of course, the swap only appeared under Vista. @kombucha, try to run diskmgmt.msc. Right-click on your volume, select change drive letter and select add, and last add a folder. You may have to change XP's drive letter first.

I said "not necessarily your UPS" : maybe the company you're buying power from. And for Autoruns, File -> Save. -
And find SVCPACK.INF in I386. Open it with notepad. And, depending on the length of the text, copy it or attach it.

And attach your lastsession.ini, the list of addons and hotfixes you added. Maybe because of some buggy driver. Deificient power supply (no necessarily *your* UPS)... -

Please use Autoruns and save a report of what you got. Then attach the file. -
Updated file versions.

iconpackager maybe ?

Wow, that's huge for an OS... 5 CDs Even if the product key determines the version, you could still remove the files that are only required in the versions you don't need. Vista 32bit is less than 3CDs in fact; Vista 32&64bit is 5CDs. But I agree this is huge : for the same source size, OpenSuSe gives me IDEs, two x-window clients, many servers apps, frameworks......... Imho the reason lies in .net framework; winsxs is 1GB. @evisu, basic. But stick to XP/2K if you don't absolutely need Vista.

Have a look at the bottom of this screenshot from vlite.net, if all components are selected you can slice a massive 4666.9MB of stuff from an install http://www.vlite.net/img/shots/ss2.png With everything selected. No matter you choose maximum or fast compression, you will get a 1GB iso (assuming you selected Ultimate Edition). Once installed Vista will still take 4GB. (speaking of x86 version of course) PS: maximum compression is really not worth the time compared to fast. Don't use it. Here it saves 40 to 60MB and needs an extra 20 minutes.
-
Don't get it : what app threw this error : DT or windows ? I can tell you isos are not the same as the ones for XP but it works when you boot from it. Also, try to burn on a CD/DVD-RW and see if it works.
-
To add something to what booogy said, there's a wim* folder in vlite. If you can't get it to work, right-click on the inf and select install. Can't you choose the fist option when starting the process ? I've never used it but help says it's instantaneous.

I can't believe it : I was right, the new version has been released on a monday! Anyway, thanks for your work. I'm sure it's already wonderful.

You just need to be a 18-yo french student, you have plenty of time. But this doesn't last long : now I work all day long.

I'm not sure what you're talking about (precisely). Would you mind taking a screenshot ? -
I can translate it to french if nobody's on it.

SoftPedia says the publisher is F-Secure. This makes me think I should reinstall VMWare.
