  1. I love it! I'm using it as a primary OS and I'd never go back to XP SP2 (even though it's not bad!). Vista on the other hand, I can't stand it all. Finally, Microsoft does something good for the home user (I love Win2k3 and Win2008 but I can't install my **** HP 4355 AIO on either one!). I can't wait for the BETA and the RTM. As an pre-BETA OS, it's awesome: no BSOD, no sluggishness, no slow boot-up nor shutdown. And the GUI is great.
  2. @spacesurfer: use comodo internet security and select only the firewall. Works great! @Innocent Devil: Winamp 5.541 works 100% like in WinXP/Vista What I have installed so far and works: Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition v10.2.1000 (for Vista) works 100% Comodo Internet Security (select only the FIREWALL to install) works 100% Firefox 2.0.0.18 works like a charm! WinRAR v3.71 works 100% Total Commander 7.04 works 100% Adobe Reader 8 works 100% UltraISO v9.3 (this version has the option to install a virtual CD/DVD drive - i use this instead of DaemonTools) works 100% Office 2007 works 100% BSPlayer v2.32 pro works 100% (to be able to view the movies go to PREFERENCES ->VIDEO ->VIDEO RENDERING ->check the box to DISABLE YV12 FORMAT and as rendering mode select INTERNAL RENDERER DIRECTDRAW SURFACE) ACDSEE 3.0 CCleaner Regcleaner freeware RealOne v11 Prasi ONES (I use this app to burn my CDs&DVDs) DiVX xvid AC3Filter I installed the drivers for Vista for my mobo (nForce based) and ATi drivers vista version and works awesome. I also installled the vista drivers for my HP AIO 4355 and works 100% on build 5696 (this wouldn't install on build 6801!)
  3. I'd like the option to toggle between clasic and new start menu.
  4. MagicAndre1981 I respect you choice, please respect mine. I don't like the new start menu in WinXP, in Vista and in Windows 7, but in the first 2 mentioned OSes I can switch back to classic menu, in Windows 7, you can't...yet! I'll dig into the registry, maybe I'll find something.
  5. Unified CP? WOW! It's sooo dizzy! The classic Win98 CP is the best. I'm not an old-fashioned, but "why change it, if it works?" type of guy.
  6. I've installed Windows 7 build 5696 and everything works fine, except one thing: I don't like the new Vista-like start menu, but the old classic start menu (Win95-98 style). Is there a registry tweak to enable it somehow?
  7. I hate when legal issues intervene in good things. One more thing: is Microsoft affiliated with this forum? If so, MS should give a **** that people still think about Windows 98 (It's bad for business, I know).
  8. geese, did you follow this tutorial? http://win2k8.msfn.org/
  9. Search Google for this KlmSOftware's CDR.EXE 1.2 and you'll get a softpedia link to download it. This works with all Windows versions.
  10. Is it possible to "shrink" Vista SP1 ISO image with vlite, or it will mess it up?
  11. I've tried everything, but without luck. Crap! I'm forced to install WinXP SP2 or Vista!
  12. I've searched the **** net to find a driver for this AIO, but it seems there isn't. The morons from HP didn't consider to make a driver for this OS. Is there any chance to use this device with this Win2k3? Pleaseee...
  13. I just can't wait for Win2008 to be RTM! Yupeee!
  14. I highly recommend Knoppix 5.1.1 which boots from CD/DVD and if you like it you can install it on HDD.
  15. I really hope they will improve the file system and the registry and a better memory management in order to be able to disable at all th use of virtual memory or a pagefile on systems with much RAM (e.g. 4GB). That's all I want from the next generation of Windows, but I don't think I'll see a version of Windows like that soon enough.
  16. Renaming the Administrator account in Vista: Right click on MY COMPUTER - go to manage - expand Local Users and Groups - click on Users in the left pane - in the right pane, right click on Administrator and click ‘rename’. That's it!
  17. An easy way is to use a Knoppix/Kanotix livecd which you can use to delete all the partititions on the HDD of the laptop .Both linux OS'es have a GUI which is very intuitive. All you have to to is take ownership of the respective partition and delete it. Once you deleted the partitions you wanted you need to create new ones and format them FAT32. When you install WinXP you can format them using NTFS. Another way is to use a WinXP live CD [you need BartPE from http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/#download and a Windows XP CD], but youy still need to take ownership of the folders before beeing able to delete the files&folders you want. How to take ownership of a file/folder in WinXP:
  18. I don't lock it, 'cause I have no kids (yet ) and my wife works on the PC only under my close supervision.
  19. A good firewall (and free also) that supports Vista [x32/x64] is Comodo Firewall v3.0. Jetico,Outpost Firewall, EndpointSecurity also support Vista, but are commercial.
  20. I've searched the net for it too, but had no luck. Hopefuly, someone will have mercy and tell us this. P.S. I've found the Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Ed. Service Pack 1 VLK CD label if you're interested: ARMEVOL_EN. I'm using this one since I don't have it for SP2.
  21. I use SAMInside. It shows you users&pass on Win2k/XP/Win2k3. It can run from a Windows live CD.
  22. You can use to integrate the S-ATA driver Windows Unattended CD Creator 1.0.2 beta 10. It's far more easier to work with and more intuitive: 1.copy the Windows CD content into a folder on hdd 2.Open Windows Unatended CD Creator and click select and choose the folder you copied your Windows files 3.Press Work in source directory 4.Go to the driver tab, choose "driver for raid, scsi ....", then click add to add your s-ata drivers 5.Go to the done tab and press "save" then "create iso image". Burn the iso image on CD and you can install WinXP. That's easy as saying...5!
  23. I don't know if Vista stores the passwords in the SAM file, but if it does you can use SAMInside from an XP Live CD to recover/modify your password(s).
  24. I use Paint for screenshots and basic stuff. If I want something more complex then I use PS9.
