what's with the 'look below' business, people?? i see nothing but a blank box.

Yes, you're right about corp not needing to be activated and pro does. However, the CD key for pro does not work in corp, and vise-versa

Is that someone's pants on it's right horn?

Desert Combat.... Is this game only available in the US? or is it available in the UK too. I cant find it anywhere. Looks interesting. I wonder if it can be an alternative to CS in terms of weapons and graphics. Any idea where I can find this game in the UK (London)?? Edit: Hang on, is Desert Combat an expansion pack to some other game? I really hope it isn't!

Directx 8.1b, Is This Better Than The Default
R600 replied to Marztabator's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I'm sure you had DX8 installed when you had a GFX card that was released before DX8. On the contrary, I don't like DX9 very much... causes problems when I play some games. -
There's a IEAK6 or something like that, which allows administrators to make IE load up in kiosk mode only (i.e. no address bar, no internet option access)

OK, so I've installed HyperOS and got Windows XP running now. From what the manual tells me, cloning C: to say drive E: - any changes made to the system files (deleting them) will also delete the ones in the C: too. A bit strange, but lets not go there. HyperOS is highly overpriced in my opinion because anyone wanting to make test copies of windows available can always install one on to a separate partition. Talking from a Windows XP (only) user point of view, I think there is absolutely no need to purchase HyperOS unless 'Time' is the deciding factor. You'll have no benefit of using HyperOS if you're only running XP because there is no 'fast switching' between each 'test' copy. If you're wanting to have test copies of Windows XP, you might as well install a clean copy of it in C: and make a ghost image (using Norton Ghost) and restore it into D: E: F: drives as this is what HyperOS requires you to do anyway. Any Windows 9x users will most probably see the most benefits from HyperOS since Windows 9x uses a different kernel from the NT versions. HyperOS has managed to take advantage of this and allow Windows 9x users to switch between copies of Windows 9x without the need of rebooting. Not only that, the OS can run off your RAM (HyperDrive). However, it advices that you should only install the bare minimum if you want to use the HyperDrive feature as this eats up most of the memory on the system. I'd say go for HyperOS if you've got the money, disk space and will be running Windows 9x versions on your system, or you seriously need to stop wasting time on installing Windows every 2 weeks. Otherwise there's no point of getting it if you're only running NT/XP versions.

Can you make another copy of the ones you got already in less than 60 secs? As I said earlier, I won't get a chance to install HyperOS until tomorrow (afternoon when i go home). Once, I've installed it, I'll be testing the features on it. It says you can clone copies of the OS in less than 60secs... which is a good thing since I've installed XP countless times in the past 3 months.

Haven't used VirtualPC, but I think similar in the sense that you can use the 2nd copy to test software.
-
Anyone got HyperOS at all? Or have interest in this software? I received mine this morning, but won't have a chance to install it until tomorrow afternoon. If it runs the way I expect it to, then I can say bye bye to the 40-50mins of setup of windows... until Longhorn comes out. It also allows you to run any copy of windows at any time without having to reboot first (need to install each version thru HyperOS). If anyone is interested, PM me with any queries and I'll get back to you asap.
-
Erm, maybe this is a stupid question... but how do you turn it ON? rofl. I've never seen a logo on mine except the BIOS bit.

where can i get SAV from? or where do you guys get yours from rather?

This poll has been done before. And winrar ownz!!

I'm not sure whether it's to do with the sponsor's as I've never used msn plus!2 before. It's a possibilty that there is a link between them, but it's more likely to be adware or something like that.
-
I friend has that bar on his machine... checked everything but couldn't find any signs of the source of the problem. He thinks that it got on there after he installed MSN plus. Any other suggestions?

Null vote! I don't know why people vote WinXP. If we were all still using windows ME, I'm pretty sure everyone would have voted for ME. lol As you all know, every new MS Windows is better than its predecessor. So I can't really give an opinion of which would be best.

Very informative answer.

Hi, are there any MSDN subscribers in here? If so, is there anyone that is testing the beta version of Windows XP 64-bit Edition for Extended Systems (Windows XP for AMD64)? I'm just curious what's in-store for this new OS since MS plans to release the final version in early 2004.

Haven't you heard of male nurses or something? What planet are you on? lol
-
You can't really say it's converting XP to Longhorn except in the sense of a theme change.
-
cool. i was wondering why we only had pc cases designed the way it is for ATX boards only. now that they've got the reversed design, it'll be quite interesting.
-
One thing I'm a bit confused on about the BTX boards is the layout. Are the PCI slots placed at the top now?
-
Oh right, Cool!! It's not dejavu! They've been building the BTX for 8 years already. LOL
