  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the case that the lower latency of anything, the better? Yep. And most DDR 1 will do at least 2.5-3-3-7 or 2.5-4-4-8. But I recommend Memtest86 to test the RAM. Run Memtest86 after applying setting changes. I recommend that you try these settings: 2.5 (CAS) 3 (for both tRCD and TRP) 3 7 (tRAS)
  2. It's likely because that RAM can't handle stinkin' CAS 2.5! It may require 3.0-4-4-8 or higher!
  3. Windows 9x users need to be on the lookout for web sites with .ani files! This is the dreaded animated cursor vulnerability bug I'm taking about.
  4. Probably a bad overclock or overheating.
  5. It's likely unstable with more than one RAM module, because of a motherboard circuitry issue. But it's even more likely because of latency setting issues or chipset issues. It's likely that you're forced to run the RAM at performance crippling settings, just for data corruption to stop occurring!
  6. That shall never occur. Because nLite don't touch the virtual memory or any quota settings, AFAIK.
  7. Likely a bad IDE cable connection! Especially if the BIOS gives the HDD a weird and random name. Also, especially if Windows gives you error messages about a parity error of the IDE channel in the system event log!
  8. It probably isn't because of the sound card. Sound cards causing a POST failure is unlikely. If the motherboard itself fails to boot after putting in a sound card, then it probably got damaged, because you weren't careful enough when putting in the sound card. It's probably because you touched something on the motherboard or processor.
  9. That's likely because you have an AMD processor. Likely because it don't support the microcodes for Athlon processors. Also, Windows 98 is more likely to be optimized for a POTS (56k and lower) internet connection.
  10. Yep. Just like when a 20 GB HDD on a PC that was at the group home I used to be at 5 years ago was 18 GB, according to Windows.
  11. What type of networking woes? It's less likely to have problems with broadband. Are you still using a POTS (56k or lower) internet connection?
  12. I've removed IE and: Comodo works fine. I don't play website games but I have played on shockwave.com which uses flash, no issues. Skype works fine, so does PD, O&O and every .NET app I have used. I mentioned Comodo Firewall, because when I tried to use it under Windows 2000 Pro with the FDV fileset, AFAIK, the Comodo Firewall installer didn't display any error messages and thus seemed to be fine, but after I rebooted, error messages popped up and Comodo Firewall was terminated. Also, about the internet games, I talked about that, because I worked on a PC for someone that does use pogo.com and I decided to test it with Firefox and when I tested it with Firefox a while ago, gotten nothing but a box! nLite, even with Internet Explorer stripped, has good compatibility, AFAIK. I rarely, if at all, see an application complain about Internet Explorer not being installed.
  13. Windows XP crashed with STOP: 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA when I tried to disable the scanning, because Windows XP was slow.
  14. Apparently, you also have another problem. You're at 1.0 Ghz! Your processor apparently is underclocked. You're gonna have to go in to the BIOS and check the frequencies.
  15. There's a bad link at GameSpot.
  16. Is Norton known to cause BSODs by anyone here?
  17. So the 200 GB shall have been 20 . 0 GB! Sounds like that host loves to act like malware!
  18. Yep. Megaupload.com sucks, too. Does mostly the same thing as Rapidshare.de.
  19. I wouldn't trust that if I were you. It's easy to get zero-day vulnerability attacks! Windows leaves ports that aren't required for internet access wide open!
  20. When I was working on someone else's PC, when I clicked on the Norton AntiVirus 2007 (or probably not far off) tray item, Windows XP BSOD'ed and rebooted! When I checked the SaveDump entry in the event log, found out it was STOP:0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA, which I saw occur before because of buggy software. I never gotten a crash when doing other things. It appears to be Norton's fault, because the crash occurred when I tried to unload the real-time protection by right clicking. But I was preparing to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on that PC. I made another partition, a FAT32 partition to back up the pictures on, so I can reformat the system partition.
  21. nLite usually does remove it properly and leaves some registry entries so that some applications won't refuse to continue. But expect the following if you remove Internet Explorer: 1. Comodo Personal Firewall will fail. It probably fails with generic errors and is terminated. 2. You're not able to play the games at pogo.com. Because the games at pogo.com are known to fail to load with Firefox, you probably just get a white box. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Applications that possibly have problems with Internet Explorer removed: Skype AIM Perfect Disk O&O Defrag .Net Framework Any application that uses the .Net Framework -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There aren't many issues with Internet Explorer removed. Especially if you're a gamer. I haven't came across any 3D game that fails because of Internet Explorer being removed! Games are more likely to love you for removing Internet Explorer.
  22. I get hardly anything! http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs413&d=07110&am...e!!.JPG
  23. Warning, there's another barrier, too, known as the dreaded 32 GB limit, with pre-2001 PCs.
  24. I agree! Because on one of my PCs, with Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2 with Internet Explorer 7, seems to be faster. Internet Explorer 7 on that PC, which I'm typing this post on seems to be faster, even with 56k.
  25. That sounds like the multiplier you're talking about. Athlon 64s, according to people over at ocforums.com, are known to be locked upwards. According to them, at least you're allowed to lower the multiplier, unlike with Athlon XPs. Also, the Vcore is *NEVER* known to be locked by any processor manufacturer. If you can't change the Vcore, then it's probably because of the motherboard. Chaintech has been known for the Vcore option being missing and Asus has been known for setting arbitrary Vcore limits. If your motherboard is a Chaintech, then you may be required to RMA it. If your motherboard is an Asus, then you're likely required to mod the motherboard for a better OC.
