  1. Nero works great for me with CD-Rs and RWs. Its compatiable with Xp and i have not noticed any sort of bugs -drew
  2. As far as i know, if you have MSN messenger installed and you goto a .net enabled site....it will login, i dont think there is a way around this. Heres an idea remove it using this links methods http://xp.modrica.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74 Then use a program called trillian found here-http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/, which uses the msn chat program as well as yahoo, aim, icq, and irc. With out msn messenger on your system the sites with .net enabled will not auto log you in..but you will still be able to chat with your friends and you will get the nice little email notification :beer -drew
  3. Try 2 update it...there is a new version 4.6. But if you dont use it then you might not want to bother -drew
  4. The only way to dual boot with Xp is to not have it on the fist partition. So, if you want to run both Xp and dos 6.22, you must create 2 dos partions in fdisk..C: DOS D:XP Goodluck Ps if you need help with this process use the search key..there are many tips and step by stey guides to do this. -drew
  5. Im not to sure what you want to do...Do you want to remove MSN messenger? or just change the account that you login to for msn? Can you plz clarify what you mean? thankx:cool: -drew
  6. As far as i know there is no settings with in Outlook to stop this. This is M$ way of trying to stop worms and virus' from spreeding, and is making a bigber more damaging reaction then planed. I read through the newest MaximumPC and they say the same thing; however, there are a few ways to work around it. (1)Change the extention to .doc....then tell your friend thats recieving it to chage it back to the correct extention(.exe,etc). This can get ugly so i recomend not doing unless totly nessary. (2)Compress the file in a ZIP. This will always work and is not dificult. (3)If you want to do away with the problem go here http://support.microsoft.com and look up article #Q290497. Do the 12 step reg edit method. If done correctly this with enable you to send and recive any attachment you plz. But if waht i expect is true..then you most likly dont know alot about your Registry, so if this 12 step reg edit makes you a bit nervious use option # 4 (4) USe a different E-mail client, there are plenty to choose from. Goodluck :beer -drew
  7. Im not sure about mandrake being simpler to install but it would be a good server Os..if your not bothering with linux then i would use Win2k advanced server. Its decently simple, and if you have used Win2k befor you should have no problems. -drew
  8. Well if you can use trillian, just stick with it..it combines all you chat clients..and its the best looking/working one out there! :beer -drew
  9. In order to solve this problem you must give a description of you situation. For example, Are you on a Network? DSL?Cable?Dail-up?Software installed? XP updates? etc. This way we can understand exactly way you are having this problem. -drew
  10. I would scrap Zone alarm and use a firewall called Tiny..Get it here-http://www.tinysoftware.com . I have found it to be the best firewall program out there, plus it does not interfer with any chat funtions. -drew
  11. Im positive that Zone Alarm is blocking it. To test this close it and start up trillian...see if you can chat. Then close trillian and start Zone up again, go into the rules and allow trillian(or any other chat program) to gain access(just like you did with IE or any other application that uses the net).If you cannot gain access with out Zone running state futher description of the problem/situation. :beer -drew
  12. A bit off the topic..but why the hell would you guys use Xp with out NTFS? whats the point? -drew
  13. [b:c11c19ff79]Steel[/b:c11c19ff79]-Plz read the forum rules, just click on them under my sig...thankx :beer -drew
  14. If you make it heavy you will have to add postage, just put a few things in, no need in wasting money on this little prodject:D -drew
  15. Dude..thats f***ing halarious....im going to start doing this asap! and i hope all you guys out there will to, maybe we can get some type of responce out of it..what total comedy :spaced -drew
  16. Ok, i understand now....Fist off dont use Roxio..i know many people say it works, but in my xperience of this forum i have seen way too many peoples computers geting f***ed over their software, just use the most recent version of Nero and be done with it.In my opinion its a better program any way. The reason that you cannot boot to me, is becasue haveing a NTFS drive as the C: terminates the posability of having 98 on another partition. If you want Me/98 and Xp...Me/98 must be on the c drive, its that simple. goodluck :beer -drew
  17. The first thing i would do is make sure that the version of compuserve you are using is compatable with Xp, then goto the modem manufactuers web page and see if there is an update to the current drivers. -drew
  18. Try using Trillin http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ they integrate several chat programs into one. Its skinable, eats up very little resources and is just NICE! -drew
  19. Well now that i think about it, the Xp set up does offer to format the drive, so i guess you dont have to really format it in DOS. Just pop in the Xp cd and do a fresh clean install. Yo will get the option to format the drive in NTFS, do so and i think you will be all set. I gave you the other directions..becasue thats how i have done it forever...since windows 3.1. If anyone has any objections..let me know, i have never done straight out of 98. -drew
  20. Well inorder to get a smoothly running Xp on your system, i would format the harddrive and reinstall Xp on the drive. To do this pop in a 98 start up disk and restart your hard drive, you will then get the options to start your computer with or with out cd support, choose without. at the prompt type "format c:"(without the "") wipe the drive, when it asks you for a "volume" just hit enter. Restart the comp without the 98 disk but put the Xp cd in , hit delete and get into your bios ..and make you cd drive boot first. If you cannot make you cd drive bootable, get these boot disks for XP http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q310/9/94.ASP Once you get into the Xp setup, follow the instructions and when it asks you where to install the Os pick your C: drive, then choose to format the drive in NTFS(Dont to the quick one) After that just continue to follow the onscreen directions..and you will be all set. goodluck :beer -drew
  21. Well in that case, take a look in your Mobo book and find "slot#1" of you mem banks. Some times not having a ram stick in the #1 bank can cause problems. -drew
  22. In "My Computer" got to the particular drive that you want to share on the network, right-click on it, select the sharing tab, select the "i undersatnd that its dangerious blah blah" link, they you can use the Network wiz , or just click the "i understand blah blah" link and set it to "just enable file sharing" either way will work :beer -drew
