  1. Per Server Licensing Under the per server licensing approach, you must purchase a license for each user who connects to a specific server. If a maximum of 50 users bill log on to Server A, 50 client licenses must be allocated to that server. If 25 users will log on to Server B, 25 licenses must be allocated to B, for a total of 75 licenses. Per Seat Licensing If you choose per seat licensing, you must purchase a license for each computer on the network. If you purchase 100 licenses allocated on a per-seat basis, 100 users can access an unlimited number of servers. Per seat licensing tends to be the more economical approach if users routinely access multiple servers. With per seat licensing, licenses are installed "from the top down."
  2. that might not be a good idea.. if your user is working in outlook, the user will lose the data they are currently working in. If emails are not sending there is probably a problem somewhere else.
  3. you need to boot to the CD to change the password..
  4. Try uninsatlling ALL your symantec products then reinstalling them and see if this helps. The computer is still finding a symantec product referenced to the error.. Might as well reinstall all of them
  5. you can set your "Server" up with windows 2003 Server and install remote installation services. .. make sure when you install the server that you create a second partition to store your OS Images After your Server is installed.. go through the wizard and create an image Use pxe on your workstation and install over the network Now there is MUCH more to it than this but I i find this to be the easiest way. This can get you started
  6. ServerName -> IP Routing -> Static route go there and add a static route to the destination you want to access
  7. I would be very carefule with the ones that the virus scan said had a virus. You will want to make sure you have up to date AV on whatever computer you move the files to and scan them before copying them.
  8. try replacing your network card.. you can take it out of one of the working ones for the install then take it out when it is done. It sounds like your card is hosed though..
  9. Windows adds more overhead in tcp communications for error checking and session control. Ill see if I can dig up the article I found that explained it in detail. I saved it somewhere. I noticed it too when me and a couple of guys from work were testing network bandwidth stuff. We were only able to max out winodws network utilization at arount 72% while we installed Solaris on the same box and received mid 80% network utilization transfering the same files on the same hardware.
  10. I know what he is trying to say... I am just trying to give him options.. he showed a screenshot of taskmanager with exe's running.. maybe some will work in different ways but not interactively with the user. that is why i gave him the reg file.. anyways.. it looks like he has bigger problems. Looks like you lost alot of files.. the best bet now is to reinstall then try and clean your files with AV
  11. Download this txt file and change the extension to .reg http://www.danfrei.com/exefiles.txt this contains 2 lines: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command] @="\"%1\" %*" OK 3 lines
  12. LOL what i actually wanted was not an export of all the errors but the "Error" Errors.. the one with the red circle and the white X Double click on the error and it will give you description of the errors. That is what I wanted to see
  13. I know that it is not letting you run exe files but here is a shot in the dark see if you can open regedit.exe (start -> run -> regedit) make sure your registry value in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\Shell\Open\Command The REG_SZ entry in the right-hand pane should read: "%1" %* Quotes included, and a space before the second % this entry tells XP how to handle exe files
  14. click start -> run -> type eventvwr or right click on my computer and click manage. then under system tools you will see Event Viewer.. Check Application and System and let us know if you are getting any error messages and post them up here
  15. Just brows to the computer name \\servername\ and you should get not only the shares on the computer but a default printers and scheduled tasks folder. to give specific permissions you will have to use the cacls.exe utility to change the permissions since explorer doesnt give you this option
  16. Depending on the permissions of the user they may or may not have permissions to add the computer to the domain. Please be more specific as to what you are trying to accomplish
  17. specifically what error message are you receiving?
  18. what does your event log say? any errors. Does your WMI Service start?
  19. Go to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and copy and past the one in this directory into your C:\windows\system32 directory If this doesnt work them PM me and I can send you one of mine
  20. Do you have any other Symantec programs in add or remove programs like LiveUpdate or ClientSecurity?
  21. Navigate to C:\Program Files\ and let me know if you can see the folders As opposed to clicking on the shortcuts in the programs menu.. what happens when you click directly on the exe itself?
  22. Your picture is not showing up.
  23. batch file
  24. Not without a 3rd party program... If the site you are trying to connect to is running a version of the WebDAV protocol then you will be able to connect to it using http but that is about as close as you are going to get. ftp is a no go
  25. make sure you show hidden files and folders and i think protected operating system files.. navigate to the boot.ini file.. right click on it and select properties.. uncheck where it says "Read Only" hit ok then do what you need to do. when you are done.. do the same thing and RECHECK the read only box
