  1. This works fine for me.. I just tried it.. I just moved SAV Corp CD from local CD-Rom to Server 2003 Standard share.. it copied everything and the autorun.inf.. I would make sure the autorun.inf wasnt in use somewhere...
  2. Yes.. ISP NIC.. ISP DNS Server LAN NIC.. LAN DNS Server EDIT: Scratch me.. i should of read the last page.. But yeah.. what jcarle said is 100% true.. that was the problem
  3. I assume you have a router between your subnets This being the case... just a route or gateway of last resort pointing to the internet connection and another route to the other subnet
  4. Yeah.. I would insert them one by one and let them rebuild. Then repartition them using Partition Magic. (ServerMagic for Servers) If you do a backup then restore.. it kinda sounds like it is easy.. but you can run into complications...especially with Exchange
  5. That tool you mentioned was what I was thinking of after reading the first 2 posts only to find that you said it first.. This utility should take care of your problem
  6. Best bet is to just get a legal copy of Windows...
  7. Yeah.. make sure IE can get out.. if it can then it does sound like a software firewall problem.. have you modified any settings in firefox?(about:config)?
  8. it didnt show that i replied (0 replies...not sure why) so bumping to show I replied Edit: And ofcourse.. after I do this it shows 2 posts...
  9. Network communications really only run on 2 of the 4 pairs of wires(orange and green) orange is send and green is receive. for like devices to communicate. it needs to be reversed.. this is why you would use a crossover.. becasue it crosses over the wires The only physical difference between a striaght through and a crossover are you switch wire 1 and 2 with 3 and 6 1(orange/white) 2(orange) 3(green/white) 6(green) 1 becomes 3 2 becomes 6
  10. To get explorer to come back up to to taskmanager and click on file then run and type explorer.exe and hit ok. this will bring back your desktop. As for the problem.. I recommend if explorer.exe is taking 99% cpu usage to kill the process to leave processing power for AV and Spyware programs to run their scans.. while your at it you might as well run sfc.exe /scannow to fix your system files
  11. Are you talking about running MSDE on the local Machine by users with non-administrative rights? If yes please specify.. it is possible and I will go into detail if you verify. IT requires setting user rights assignments and changing permissions on some registry keys and permissions on specific folders
  12. The PC doesnt need to be logged on to access the registry remotely. Infact.. if you are trying to load a userprofile hive then you dont want the user to log on.. As long as the remote registry service is turned on and you have administrative rights on the machine you can access the registry remotely.. How to do this: Open regedit on the other machine Click-> File -> Connect Network Registry Type in the computer name and go from ther As for you MadGutts Open Regedit Select HKEY_Users so that it is highlighted Select File -> Load Hive It will prompt you for a name.. this can be anything.. name it anythign you like. Edit it from there and select File -> Unload Hive when you are done NOTE: This only works on an XP Pro Machine to my knowledge.. I have never tried it on any other, cant remember off hand it it is possible on another OS
  13. 2003 has no such thing as a PDC or BCD I we need more specifics.. you say they can get into one DC.. is this the one they dialed into or another one.. How did they "Get into it"? If they dialed into the one DC and cant access any other network node then RRAS is not routing their requests onto your lan. What are the servers rolled and which one are they dialing into?
  14. If you are using Exchange 2000 then YES it needs to be on the domain.. Exchange 2003.. NO that DOESNT need to be part of the domain.. it can be part of a workgroup. Front end only.. Backend always needs to be part of the domain. Useful link: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...ry/febetop.mspx
  15. Go ahead and end the explorer process and hit control alt delete to bring up task manager and click file -> run and run your AV software.. Best bet is to do this in safe mode.
  16. Make sure your primary DNS Server is an Active Directory DNS Server for your network.. If it isn't It will spend a lot of time looking for your domain name and will be unsuccessful
  17. No default gateway means no communication with devices on ANOTHER subnet.. Local subnet still accessible Default gateway is your doorway out of the lan into the wan..if you dont have one then you cant fine your way out. Routing is non-existant on a single subnet lan anyways
  18. Remove the default gateway from the servers you dont want to have access to the internet.... No Default Gateway.. No Internet Access

To find out if auto updates are working.. uninstall a critical update from add or remove programs (I know, probably not the safest way) and it will prompt you to restart your computer after you restart I would give it about 5 min or so to see if the little globe pops up.. if it doesnt, restart Automatic Updates and the BITS service that will get it started again.. if it doesnt pop up then it probably isnt working......................then manually download the critical update and reinstall it. as for the plugin.. that is a little odd. add microsoft.com to your trusted sites and reset your web settings then try going to it.
  20. XP registry editor has the ability to edit the registry remotely Open regedit-> click file -> click "Connect Network Registry" The remote computer will need the "Remote Registry" Service started for this to work and you will also need permissions on that machine
  21. You will have to slipstream the drivers into your windows installation CD *Anybody* I thought I saw once a program that would do this automatically for you.. I can't remember it now. Anybody know?
  22. if it is a setup type driver installation. it will create a temporary directory somewhere on your computer (each one is different) most likely %userprofile%\local settings\temp copy the contents and install it manually. All you really need for most driver installations is the .inf , .sys , .drv and the .cat if it is digitally signed.

Where is your "Usual Spot" did you check Tools-> Internet Options-> General-> Settings-> View Objects Do you see "WUWebControl Class" this is the active X control that MS uses for Windows update... if you have it there.. does it say damaged or unknown.. heck.. even if it is there.. right click on it and hit remove and go back to windows update and download it again.
  24. I had the same problem when my network card was bad. I pulled a NIC out of one of my other computers and put it in and this fixed the problem. Try adding another NIC and disabling the other one and see if you get the same results
  25. Make sure you have the latest drivers on your computer.. What I recommend is to uninstall it in every way from your computer.. Here is a link to the website for the drivers you need Follow the readme.txt instructions The instructions give a "How to Install" and a How to verify installation" http://www.siliconimage.com/support/downlo...s=1&sataraid=0&
