  1. You know.. also.. to really answer your question Quote: "How do I edit a registry key via GPO" GPO's are essentially registry settings.. so anything that is contained in the registry can be modified by creating custom adm templates. This site got me rolling.. hopefully it will shed some useful information for anyone else.. Once you learn how to do this it gets easier and very powerful. http://thelazyadmin.com/index.php?/archive...s.html#extended
  2. Since you have "Switched roles" of the servers... I am assuming that you installed SUS fresh and re-downloaded all the updates Did you try downloading the new WSUS and using the adm file to push down the settings using GP?
  3. Putting something under restricted sites only locks down the web browser from potentially unsafe sites by locking down the permissions.. it will not stop users from accessing the site
  4. If this is all internal then just dont give it a default gateway then add an entry to the host file. I like the offline idea also.. that would work well Other than that... you can get creative with a proxy server or get rid of the address bar and everything else ... kinda like Kiosk mode..
  5. Make sure the service "Help and Support" is started... Are you getting any funny errors in event viewer?
  6. Do you have a blackberry or a pda or anything else that "Opens" your email
  7. No problem... please pose and let us know if you are successful with what you are trying to do
  8. Not sure what version of outlook you are using but if you download the Office resource kit for your version there should be .adm files you can import.. (if you install the resource kit it will automatically put them into the c:\windows\inf folder) and you can import them into your group policy by using Add or remove templates.. The one you would be interested in is OUTLK11.ADM (if it is Office 2003) then you would just have to navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 -> Miscellaneous -> PST Settings -> "Default Location for PST files and change your location to c:\
  9. Make sure WMI Services and Remote Registry services are enabled.
  10. Needs to be on a server OS ie: Server 2k3, Server 2000 Exchange 2003 CANNOT be installed on Windows 2000 because of the security requirements which are not available in IIS5 Exchange 2000 can be installed on either 2k3 server or 2000 server
  11. What is this message coming from... are we talking outlook pst to network folder... outlook pst to a network pst file... exchange to pst... exchange to network file.. What are you saving the file as on the network.. how big is the file What version of outlook are you using.. Lot of questions i know.. just trying to get some more insight
  12. what is this registry setting changing.. what will changing this accomplish?
  13. ALG.exe is not needed to run another firewall.. You can safely disable the service along with the windows firewall services and install a personal firewall of your choice with no problem.
  14. Check for a file called Nail.exe in the C:\windows\system32 directory (or maybe it was just c:\windows\) I had the same problem and it was because of this nail.exe file. If you get this however then yeah I would just reinstall. I have encountered this exe on 3 different computers and each time i thought I would counqure it but with no luck. Was able to find many tools now to fix it but none worked. Your best bet would be to reinstall. A repair installation WILL NOT WORK... Tried it already
  15. Activate over the phone, MS has gotten tougher on the OEM systems. If you call them they will let you Activate.
  16. Please elaborate a little more on your question. Give is a better idea what you are trying to accomplish...
  17. My Fav exchange site is http://www.msexchange.org/
  18. Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_a.htm and scroll down until you see "Add or Remove Programs Restriction" Click on that and download the reg file and run it then reboot.. This should take care of your problem
  19. Yeah... what he said... Ethereal Or is you want something very simple and transportable on a USB Drive try PacketMon http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmon.htm
  20. Not for Windows that comes along with the tag "cheap and headache free" Linux has a few different options..I walked into a client about 2 months ago and ran into this http://www.postfix.org/start.html with an antivirus add on. It is based on the linux shell. Not sure how you feel about that. It uses the ClamAV as its virus scanner. Other than that you can get a SonicWall TZ150 for about 350 then get the AV upgrade package for just shy of 200... This is meant for SOHO use. those prices will get you about 5 connected clients.. you could always put a regular linksys/netgear router behind that to get more clients though... That is about as cheap as I have seen it though
  21. do you have a 98 floppy boot disk.. sounds like this would be easier.. set your bios to boot to that and fdisk the partition It sounds to me you are hitting F8 to get advanced troubleshooting options... try not to hit the F8 key during the boot process
  22. your still not booting to the CD... you need to boot to your windows 98 cd and use Boot with CD-Rom Support.. once you get to a command prompt FDISK the partition
  23. For starters... turn off Simple File Sharing then you need to make sure that your 2 computers have the same usernames configured on them PC A: If you for example have a username John with a password of doe .... then on PC B make sure you have a username of John and a password of doe... Also make sure you are part of the same workgroup... when you access a pc across the network.. it will pass on the credentials that you are currently logged on with.. If pc B doesnt have the same credentials then it will prompt you for for the correct ones Example: PC A Username: John Password: doe PC B Username: Billy Password: joel PC A accesses PC B with username John and password doe.... Does pc B have a record of that name... NO. Basically just make sure both computers have the same username and password used on each machine.. This will stop the prompting for passwords
  24. Safe mode wont work if you want to use fdisk.... Boot to your windows 98 CD and use fdisk on the correct partition
  25. you shouldn't have to add a helper file.. once the one program is complete it will start the next one... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q198044/
