  1. This looks like your error.. give this a try and let us know if this helps you.
  2. agreed.. i have used this tool and have been very successful you say this is a domain... does the admin password that you are using work on the other computers?
  3. First create an AD structure.. Secondly.. never apply something like restrict access to drives at the top of your domain..(yeah it is only a test network but still) You cannot apply a group policy to the default Computers OU so create another OU called test computers and apply it there. You can restrict access to drives in 2 places.. via machine or via user.. which one are you using. I recommend restricting them per user.. this way you can still get to them as admin. create a group called restricted_users and apply the policy to them and remove authenticated users.
  4. it is whatever you purchased.. check your bill i guess... or set it for dynamic.. if it gets an IP then you are ok.. if it doesnt.. then you will need to find the address that they assigned to you.. Can I suggest something... buy a regular gateway.. Server 2003 Enterprise edition is essentially not meant to be an Internet router but meant for larger memory addressing for SQL Servers and for real high powerd network computing and is seemingly out of your range of knowledge.. If you purchase a regular gateway from the local BestBuy or CircuitCity it will auto detect your connection type, and configure your internet for you.. With mail in rebates you can find them for as little as $30 and you will have this thing working in a matter of min.. Otherwise I would suggest doing a little bit of reading on Server 2k3. I am not trying to be sassy but if we cant even get past the type of IP addressing you have.. this thread will be miles long when we are done.
  5. It is a great program because it is free. I however do not use it in a corporate enviroment because of lack of support for the product and most of my customers run like exchange server adn other MS products If you work with Databases and can learn how to use dynamic content in your documents.. this software is great.. you have the ability to pull information out of databases via odbc from ANY of their open office programs. (IE. pull customer addresses out of live database for address lables in OpenOffice's version of Word) OR even edit live data in a database via the software. That is about the greatest feature that others dont have.. with this being said... I have used this feature once and never again..
  6. what is the mac address of the nic that isnt working... if it is all 0's then you wont get an address. Try finding the most recent up to date drivers for the network card.. have you tried anohter network card?
  7. that all depends on your internet connection. If it is dynamic.. you dont put in anything.. if it is static.. you will have to enter it.
  8. It pulls the information from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0 You will want to edit ProcessorNameString As for the processor speed and amount of memory.. those are calculated at runtime and cannot be edited.
  9. not sure if you are mistyping it on the board here.. what you want is sfc.exe /scannow there is a space between the command and the switch.
  10. Sounds like somebody likes VMWare... Care to elaborate I have used a produce called Doubletake.. I have it implemented at one of my clients and I have been pretty satisfied. Luckily none of my servers have gone down so that is about all I know.. But when testing.. I pulled the plug on my live server and I was down for about 5 min until the other picked up ... but when it picked up.. it ran as expected. We replicated multiple servers to a single server running doubletake across an internet connetion about 8 miles down the road. Exchange, MSSQL and Pervasive SQL.
  11. Just give it a little time.. they will be removed from the cache.. One thing you could do would be to restart every computer on the network to remove their cache as well. I would just give it a day or so though and it should disappear
  12. do you have a firewall running or just windows firewall. Basically there is something keeping it open.. kinda like how you cant delete a file when it is in use.. you cant disable the interface if something else is grabbing ahold of it. Try booting in safe mode with networking and see if it still happens.
  13. Honestly that is the first time I have heard that. Please reveal your source for this. I am no expert on wireless standards so I started doing some research and found some specs on Netgears site about their technology and it does specify file transfers. Most sources I could find said that 108mbps technology improved audio/video streaming and gaming but not that that was what it was meant for.. here is Netgears white papers on 108mb technology. http://www.netgear.com/pdf_docs/108Mbps_Su...r_29Apr2004.pdf Either way, I know I am not gonna get 108mbps out of these routers.. I was happy with the 40% when I pulled from my server. I am just want to know why I can only get 2% one way and 40% the other way.
  14. first thing I would check is to navigate to the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall Use Security/Permissions to insure that you and System have Full-Control permissions on this and all subkeys.
  15. rjz.. I hope you dont mean reinstall the whole server. Just the fact that hongt said front end server should indicate that this is a corporate enviroment. Reinstall should be the last option A few things I have notices about exchange is its inability to work with AV software. a few things I would try would be to stop AV scanning on The M: drive. (Exchange 2000) Exchange databases, logs and checkpoint files across all storage groups. By default, these are located in the Exchsrvr\Mdbdata folder. Exchange MTA files in the Exchsrvr\Mtadata folder. Directory Exchsrvr\server_name.log file which contains the tracking log. The Exchsrvr\Mailroot virtual server folder. The working folder that is used to store streaming temporary files that are used for message conversion. By default, this folder is located at \Exchsrvr\MDBData, but you can configure the location. The temporary folder that is used for offline database maintenance with Eseutil.exe and Isinteg utilities. Site Replication Service (SRS) files in the Exchsrvr\Srsdata folder. Microsoft Internet Information Service (IIS) system files in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv folder. Also.. the stopping and starting of those services are characteristics of the code red worm and nimda, so I would check for those. As far as nntp.. i know exchange requires it to be installed when you install exchange.. but if you dont use it.. just uninstall it through add or remove components. It is not necessary for normal exchange functionality. I assume you have the latest service packs on not only Windows 2000 server but on exchange server as well?. Can you link this problem to some type of system change?
  16. I have a laptop with a Netgear WG511T wireless card in it. 108mb features enabled. I also have a wireless router which is a WGT624v2. 108mb features enabled on this also. Have already downloaded latest drivers for network card and latest firmware(NON-BETA) for the router. Laptop is WinXP Pro SP2 w/o firewall enabled I have a file server(win2k3) connected at 100MB at my house which stores.. well files.. If i transfer a large file.. lets say 200mb plus, from my laptop to my file server, My network utilization doesnt get much higher than 2%. However. If I terminal into my Server and pull the file off the laptop and transfer it to the server disk, I am able to get over 40% utilization. This is the only wireless device in my house(except PDA) and all hardwired computers in my house transfer equally both ways. I guess I dont really know what my question is other than why is this. Why is it that I can pull from the server faster than I can push to the server?
  17. This wouldnt happen to be a Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop would it? Otherwise, and people may have their own opinions on this, remove all network options except for Client for Microsoft Networks File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Sometimes the additional stuff listed in there (QOS, Agis, Network Monitor,......) can cause an error like this to happen. Obviously if you run a network that requires QOS or Agis or anything special, dont remove it, however if this is a home network, you probably dont need it.
  18. In almost all scenarios I have seen. DSL uses a modem. Most of the modems now a days offer configuration on there. In all scenarios I have encountered, I was able to set PPoE configuration on the modem and then point my gateway to modem. In this case your gateway is your Win2k3Ed. So the first thing to do is to see if you have that option on your modem Secondly, as far as the NAT connection. There are many articles on the internet as to how to do this.. however.. I have found that the wizard really can do a basic setup like this almost without fail. IF Fail GOTO http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...figuration.html
  19. Just go back to the same spot that you removed it from. Add or Remove Programs -> Add or Remove Components -> Check "Fax Services" and hit next once that is done. Open the printers folder and right click in a blank area and select "Set Up Faxing" Go through the wizard and you will be all set
  20. I think you have your terms mixed up. It sounds like you want to set up your Win2k3 server as your networks internet router to allow your lan clients to access the internet through the server Install routing and remote access Go the the connection wizard Set up the connection as a NAT connection point your clients to the server as its default gateway
  21. If I can understand you correctly: When you browse to the location, and select something.. it is going to take that item.. since a link is a file on the hard drive, it will take the link, How is outlook or msn messenger supposed to know weather or not you want to send the link or the actual file. It just takes what you specified, which is the link. Pending some crazy 3rd party utility which I would imagine does not exist, this wont be possible becasue this type of thing would make it so the computer chooses this for you and not you choosing. End result, if you choose a link, it will send a link, if you choose the exe, it will send the exe
  22. For starters... if you have Windows XP.. you have sfc... verify the file is there(c:\windows\system32).. and that Windows file protection is turned on. Was this an nlited installation?
  23. the nlite forum might be a good place for an nlite question http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89
  24. download and install the latest windows installer package http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
  25. well crap...I feel stupid... it is easy now.. I remember searching for a few hours once about 2 years ago right after MS discontinued support for it.. I havent bothered since.. looks like many people found it and have links to it now...
