I think this is gonna be an opinion discussion. I would say we could stick with the fact that it is a hybrid With that being said.. my opinion is If you cant join it to a domain(the main item that seperates home from pro) then it is based off home With that being said.. It is a hybrid:D

preventing corruption on Network brige
chilifrei64 replied to kurt476's topic in Networks and the Internet
are you receiving corruption? Using a network bridge in windows is TCP oriented which means it is connection oriented and is doing CRC checking. What are you bridging? How can you tell that things are getting corrupt? What is it exactally that you are trying to do here? -
You can try deleting all the ntuser.* files or manually editing the registry for the user hive. If the gpupdate /force dont work then there is no other way to "Force" and update. There would have to be another reason why it isnt applying. Not sure why you dont want to redirect the My Documents A good thing to do when doing roaming profiles it to have redirected desktop, My Documents, and Application Data. This stops ALOT of data from being transfered when the user logs on and will help speed up their logon time. I have seen users with more than a gig of documents sometimes. It can take a while to transfer that...

Ok here is the situation. Local American company moves to my location and parent company is in Germany. Each Company has their own IT Staff Since a lot of the people at this new location are new to the company as well, the Parent company constantly sends over their people from Germany to work in the local American Office. Problem: Germany has CheckPoint FW-1 as their VPN Server We have Cisco PIX 501(IOS6.3(4)) This is where it gets tricky. When they connect to the VPN, the connection is established, they authenticate and FW-1 shows a connected status. HOWEVER I cannot see or talk to any host on their network. They have NO access to their file shares or Exchange E-mail. So even though it says they are connected, they still have no access sounds like a problem on their side right?...... Wrong. When they go to the hotel at the end of they day, they log on from their rooms and do the same thing and have full access to Exchange Email, their drives map and they have network access All computers are a mix of W2k/XP Pro/XP PRO Tablet Since this works in their hotel with no problem, this tells me this is a problem on my site with my firewall. If I setup a static translation one to one NAT,(I have plenty of External IP's to do this) I have no problem, however, these guys seem to come and go faster than I am even out there. It would almost be a full time job re-writing the pix config. I am pretty familiar with Cisco Pix however I have NO experience with CheckPoint FW-1. Finally, after all this time.. here is your question: What do I have to configure in my PIX to allow these VPN connections to act like they do when they are at their hotels? *pfew* that was a long one

the workaround is to either add a second ip address to the file storage computer and map to that OR ..... and i just tried this.. kinda silly.... Map one to the computer name and map the other to the ip address... I just tried it and it would let me do one AND the other but not both of the same.. Hope this helps you:-D

Interesting... do you have any custom logon/logoff pages The default logoff page is exchweb/bin/USA/logoff.asp and to my knowledge it doesnt redirect to anything else before this page. I guess verify permissions for the logoff page specifically. The only other thing i can think of is if the stylesheet was in a Non-Anonymous directory.... but that is in the exchweb folder too. Do you have anythign special with your logoff page? or is it default? EDIT: You got me curious so I did some searching.. I found an EXACT MATCH on MS knowledgebase... here is the link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;325906 lemme know if it works

microsoft has a free utility for this, it is called Windows Server Update Services http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversyst...es/default.mspx
-

Safe Web settings through Group Policy
chilifrei64 replied to Bad boy Warrior's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
InTheWayBoy in right.. you can do as much as you want with GPO but if the user has administrative privleges, stuff will still get installed. Within GPO you can do stuff like put permissions on the filesystem and registry keys, even disable windows installer, but... .... if the user has administrative privleges, this can and will be circumvented. -
Yes, Exchange can do EVERYTHING for you. Exchange is very powerful and in my opinion is the best collaboration and email system available. If you are looking for JUST EMAIL then you could use the built in smtp and pop3 services in Windows2003. I have only used this once for a small company I set some stuff up for.. not sure what the limitations for this is. If you can get the company to go for Exchange, DO IT. It may be a little hard to understand things but it sure will make things easier in the long run...

I am only assuming here... With 150 machines i would assume you maybe have a domain controller and with that being said you could deploy these permissions via group policy very easily. This assumes you: 1) Have a domain 2) Have all Windows 2000/XP/2003 Machines 3) No Win9x/ME machines
-
Of all the things it could of ben ... it was APC Powerchute Business edition that was causing the problem.. after i uninstalled that it works perfectly.
-
make sure the exchweb virtual directory has anonymous access enabled
-
for the device drivers... use this http://www.driverguidetoolkit.com/ you install the program. then you can just hit back up device drivers and it takes all the currently installed drivers and places them in a directory. pretty neat utility

Here is a utility that I use http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsLoggedOn.html

does the event viewer say anything? is this XP home or pro do you have administrative privliges? What happens when you manually download and install them?
-
after you connect, go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all and post the output sounds to me like a dns issue though.

I cannot get the Windows Rollup Package for Win2k to install on 2 of my servers. Network: 1 Domain Controller (Rollup installs find on this server) - 2k 1 Member Server - just holds accounting peachtree datafile - 2k -on domain 1 IIS Web server - 2k -not on domain All are completely up to date as far as windows updates and anti-virus updates except for Win2k rollup package on the member server and iis server. It goes through 3 quarters of the installation then it gives me an Update Rollup 1 installation: access denied. Yes I am installing with domain administrator account already recreated administrator profile on both machines. Tried running it in safe mode All "regular" services start and stop with no problem (Automatic updates, BITS, windows installer, WMI, ....) reinstalled windows installer redist 3.1v2 Reinstalled windows script host(lead from another website) Everything on the system runs fine. no other errors.. but the rollup will not install. I have been working on this for 2 nights now and would like to get this fixed before that new exploit hits me. The 2 errors I receive are: EventID 4373 Windows 2000 Update Rollup 1 installation failed. I only have 6 Win2k machines on my network and 3 of them are servers. It deployed all except those 2. Access is denied. and EventID 4379 Windows 2000 Hotfix Update Rollup 1 installation failed. Update Rollup 1 installation did not complete. I have tried running through winodws update, automatic updates and manual download and install. Any other ideas..

Auto install/run program when loggging into domain
chilifrei64 replied to realized's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
well without getting too creative.. There is a utility that I use for legacy apps that are virtually undeployable http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsExec.html you can run the command from your computer and it will remotely execute the program. The hardest part is getting this psexec onto the remote computer (only a simple batch file) Obviously you will want to practice with this command a little to get used to it but I have used it a number of times with files that are incapable of using msi's and that need administrative privledges
