NO authority could be contacted for authentication
chilifrei64 replied to rakem's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Microsoft has 6 methods for fixing this type of error 1. Method 1: Fix Domain Name System (DNS) errors. 2. Method 2: Synchronize the time between computers. 3. Method 3: Check the Access this computer from the network user rights. 4. Method 4: Verify that the domain controller's userAccountControl attribute is 532480. 5. Method 5: Fix the Kerberos realm (confirm that the PolAcDmN registry key and the PolPrDmN registry key match). 6. Method 6: Reset the machine account password, and then obtain a new Kerberos ticket. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837513 lemme know what you find with these -

"Did not assign a network address"
chilifrei64 replied to tomars's topic in Networks and the Internet
This could be a number of reasons.. Ensure portfast is not enabled on the switches you can statically set the port speeds. you can use group policy to force the computer wait for the network connection. Is the Voyager handing out the addresses? If so.. how many devices does it go through to get to the computers.. Is this happening on any other computers on the network or just these 2 -
I think what you are looking for is a site to site VPN. These work great... I use them all the time because it is far less expensive than a point to point line. If you want something simple, cheap, and fairly reliable, use a SonicWal TZ170 with 2 vpn licenses(now this does depend on the number of clients.. i wouldnt go over 75 clients with this device). But get one of these for each end.. go through the wizard and it is pretty simple.. I have had a few misc problems with it which are kinda glitchy. If you want something reliable, go with a cisco PIX 501e with the vpn/3DES bundle. It is a little harder to configure but much more reliable and secure. I have never used the DrayTek Vigor 2600Plus but it looks like it is its own VPN concentrator. Check and see the availability site to site vpn on those otherwise you should be able to implement either the pix or the sonicwall and just put it on the DMZ on the NetGears and run the same.

Windows Server 03 dhcp problems
chilifrei64 replied to demon-knight's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Do me a favor and explain a little more in detail the equipment you have in place for this. Routers? Firewalls? Server Services? Other than that... DHCP serves only the subnet that it is on unless a device in its path supports DHCP relaying. My guess is DHCP is relaying onto the other subnet and handing out addresses. That would be the first thing I would look for. -
I think you just answered your own question
-
This can be done.. It is sorta a combination of everything everybody said.. RRAS will do it.. you will have to add a route and why dont you just use a switch are all valid responses.. A switch would make things sooo easy on you.. Is there a major outstanding reason why a switch cannot be used... are you trying to add security to the computers or filter the packets?

Control Internet access in Active Directory envmnt
chilifrei64 replied to JasonGW's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
If this is a corporate infrastructure then I would use something along the lines of either websense or SurfControl. Both offer AD integration. http://www.websense.com/global/en/ http://www.surfcontrol.com/ -
Windows Server 03 dhcp problems

make sure you dont have the dhcp relay agent enabled in RRAS -
Create a new group policy and name it accordingly (TS_Access) Under Group Policy Management, navigate to: Computer Configuration-> Windows Settings-> Security Settings-> Local Policies-> User Rights Assignments-> Allow Log on through Terminal Services. Select your user groups or users which you want to have access Hit OK Apply the Group Policy to the OU that that the server is in By default it is going to be applied to Authenticated Users. Doing something simple like this wont be much of a problem but i Would create a group for the users (can be Domain local or global) That wont matter in your situation. and add the users you want to that group.

yes you will be able to share them.. Why use Enterprise edition as a workstation.. Use either standard or WEB.. Enterprise edition will offer you no added functionality unless you have more than 16 gigs of memory or more than 4 processors... or if you plan on clustering them
-
Yes is is possible... aslong as the KVM has the right connectors on it.
-
sounds silly but you didnt specify.. are you logged in as administrator? have you located the key in regedit and verified write permissions to that key?
-
is there any way to determine what version of power point it was created in. Office 2003 is not as backwards compatible as one would hope with the older versions of office
-
Is the help and support service enabled and running?
-
With that being the case.. I would start reading.. or get them to purchase all the same equipment (all sonicwalls) the routers wont matter. I would prefer to use all PIX's for site to site (actually setting this up tomorrow morning at one of my clients) Very strong and reliable and most of all secure If you are about to try to set up VPN's using multiple vendor equipment and are hoping that these will interoperate.. you are kidding yourself. VPN's are very complex systems when you get down to the nitty gritty. And using multiple vendor stuff amost certinately requires you to get down to the nitty gritty.. I agree with it_ybd.. have you company send you out on a refresher course or start pickin up some books cause you'll be in for a ride. Or better yet.. you could hire an outsourcing company to do this for you.. it helps bring people like me more business.:-D

OMG... Dont even get me started.. SP2 is proven. I am no n00b and I use SP2. As in all my previous posts.. Install SP2, it is a proven featureful SP. Some Apps have been broken by it but there are fixes for most all of them on the manufacturers website.. However these applications are few and far between. In all the networks that I manage, I ran into a problem with 2 applications and both were business type apps not home apps. Here are a list of all the features/ updates.. Obviously dont read all of these.. This is just my way of proving that it fixes more than it breaks. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...%5bLN%5d;811113 I use SP2 on ALL my machines and my computers arent slow or anything of that nature. If you dont like a feature.. turn it off. There are plenty of websites that can show you how to do this.

DNS server in windows 2003 standard
chilifrei64 replied to realized's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Go to add or remove programs -> Add or remove components -> Network Services -> Domain Name Systems(dns) Then just go to dns management under administrative tools You can add forwarders to query external DNS Servers otherwise they will just query the root servers -

maybe this helps http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=220143 -
are these branch offices sonicwalls also? If so.. purchase the Sonicwall VPN License for each of the Sonicwalls and set up a site to site VPN. And honestly.. just run the wizard from within sonicwall. It is really easy..

setup a GROUP to remote login to any workstation
chilifrei64 replied to realized's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
The code is written version>=4 which means if the version is greater than or equal to 4 The way you wrote it, it would mean if the version is less than or equal to 4 I can see how you might be reading it but the word "version" is an actual variable in the equation -
XP has built in support for .zip files.. Just open it with windows explorer
