That was going to be my next guess. I once had a problem with Symantec for Exchange and that shut down all of my email...

Try making the username and password the same on both the computer you are logging into and the Virtual server the same, also make sure it is in the trusted zone. This should allow for pass through authentication (as long as the computer is on the same domain)

The only thing you can do with GPO in terms of filtering is deploying it through content advisor but that will not do what you are asking it to do.. this will only filter based on content and not specific sites.. also.. sites that dont put content adivsor tags in their page will not work either and since this is mainly MS filtering.. not many people do.. So no.. Now this is not saying that it isnt possible.. BUT.. GPO was not built with web filtering in mind and there is no procedure in place to set this up BUT.. GPO is very powerful and if you get crazy enough with it it can probably be done, however i dont see how.

I was refering to the side that you checked(IIS on the FE) did the link i sent you do anything? I would definately try method 2 (adding default domain to logon.asp)

you want to telnet into yahoo or hotmail on port 25 from your exchange server.. here is a tutorial on how to do this. http://weblogs.asp.net/owscott/archive/200.../15/394681.aspx

Best way to test cables is a hardware cable tester. NIC's are meant for network communication and not troubleshooting. I know of no nic that has these capibilities. A DSL speed test also will tell you nothing about your cable. as far as the funny stuff with ping.. I would check your drivers and run system file checker to make sure nothing is corrupt.

User Group Policy User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Explorer -> "Hide these drives in My Computer" and "Prevent access to drives in My Computer" as for control panel User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Control Panel -> Prohibit access to the Control Panel This can be done with either Local or Domain GPO This is a Windows option and not a 3rd party tool.

It has been a while for me on Virtural Server so forgive me if I am way off.. Virtural Server runs off the web interface.. is this what you are talking about? if so you could just add it to your trusted zone, log in and have it save the password.

is the reverse DNS entry pointing back to your domain name or to the ISP? can the computer resolve external DNS names. you started off by saying hotmail, yahoo, all domains.. this means ALL domain names right can you telnet into yahoo or hotmail on port 25 and manually type in the commands to send an e-mail?

try deleting your normal.dot file from your computer and restarting word. Does it do this in any of the other office application? is the filename Normal.dot or is it another filename.. I had the same problem with my normal.dot and received the same error.. removing the file fixed the problem.

I just double click on the icons and the program loads.. crazy i know but its true are you having some sort of problem doing this... what kind of errors are you getting, any ohter information you can give us.. what type of user you are logging in as, what security permissions you have configured. Any restrictive GPO's. Even log errors. Application hangs. Nlited install. Service packs installed.. When did this stop working, what has changed since it stopped working. Error messages that come up when you click on the icons. Custom Security templates Most of us here are more than willing to give ideas back if we have something to go off of. It is hard to answer a questions like "my computer doesnt work.. any ideas.." how are we supposed to solve that?

I just recently had a similar problem when using form based authentication. I used method 2 and changed the logon.asp to include the default domain. Another thing I would look into is to make sure that your security settings on the exchweb virtural directory and verify that the security permissions are anonymous access.

GPO is not the way to go for this one guys.. your best bet is to get a linux box and set it up as a proxy server.. this will allow you to configure web filtering to your liking... Proxy servers are not easy to configure and it may take some time.. but GPO was not meant for web filtering and you will probably have a much harder time working with GPO than you will with a Proxy server

Installing new service pack over old one
chilifrei64 replied to kevarendt's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
you should not have a problem updating.. the service packs are cumulitive and contain all the files necessary to complete the update.. when you choose do not back up files ... that only means that you can not roll back from SP2 back to SP1 or no SP. It holds no problems with going forward with service packs... only backwards. Also.. I would try to make it a point to install hotfixes and definately Service Packs. Still running a Win2k computer at SP2 means your computer is at a great risk of being exploited. -
There is no way to change this. The desktop is nothing more than a folder view of the files and there is no permission called "change sort order" or anything like that... the only thing you will be able to set is weather or not they can delete it or create new ones but as for their locations.... I couldnt even imagine how this would be done... now that i think of it.. you could create a web page as your desktop and add the icons in there... This will require creating a web page and putting pictures of the icons on it as links on the page..I think that would be your only hope

when you ran smtpdiag.. what were the command line options you ran with it.. were you sending to your server or to yahoo's and what name were you trying to send to and from..... basically what did you type.... smtpdiag user@hotmail.com user@yahoo.com -v what was it. and honestly.. i wouldnt take into effect too much what smtp diag spits back out.. i just tried it with gmail and it didnt work but i can send to them just fine from my domain..
-
ensure that your external IP address that smtp traffic is going out on is configured with a reverse DNS entry.. If you can send to some domains and not others then it is most likely this problem. If it gets to some.. your stuff is working.. if certian ones dont go through they are blocking it.. most big name free mail hosting companies will perform a reverse dns lookup on your domain name and verify it is a valid somain.
