Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
I'm sorry to repeat myself again, it's not the picture I was talking about. Here's the one, in webp format, it says it's jpeg, when if fact it is NOT, I don't know how else to explain it to you, ask the website supervisor to check it then! It only pretends to be jpeg, it's NOT jpeg, it's WEBP, are you familiar with WinHex, open the file in it, you will see it's WEBP, (link to my screenshot) here the link to the picture with FAKE jpeg, click on it to save, you will get WEBP (not jpeg!) https://media.greenmatters.com/brand-img/A9FOjrk4U/2160x1130/super-natural-disney-plus-1663705823978.jpeg?position=top- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
No, I'm talking about the first picture, the one that has ‘Super/Natural’ text in it, this screenshot shows the second one, you need to right click on it, choose save, it will save as WEBP.- 126 replies

No, there was a fix suggested by @Jakob99 "Navigate it to C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Inside here, find a file named IntelPEP.sys and delete this." https://msfn.org/board/topic/184348-solved-windows-81-on-swift-3-kaby-lake-failed-and-blue-screen/?do=findComment&comment=1238073 Perhaps he was trying to achieve something from there, looks like we have to wait for the precise description.

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
That said, I don't know if the served format depends on the browser/user agent used, I'm on a laptop with Chrome 109 (with the official webp fix) at the moment, if anyone wonders.- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
I don't know what's all this talk about doctors, the fix doesn't prevent webp from getting into your system, at least for me. You may check it yourself. Go here, don't worry, it's a legit site. https://www.greenmatters.com/news/super-natural-disney-plus Then right click on the picture with ‘Super/Natural’ Animals (Exclusive). The name is super-natural-disney-plus-1663705823978.webp. It saves the pic in WEBP format. Still don't believe? Look at the screenshot below.- 126 replies

You forgot to include the instructions or any precise explanations. Besides, not everyone with older monitors will see that function. Most importantly, you forgot to tell - it's mostly HDMI. Here. lemme help you. Correcting HDMI Colour on Nvidia and AMD GPU https://pcmonitors.info/articles/correcting-hdmi-colour-on-nvidia-and-amd-gpus/

People on github wrote: it's on the contrary. It now adds some file(file)s to the system32 folder. https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/98

Vista on Ryzen - vista might like bluescreens wayy too much
D.Draker replied to Aiek's topic in Windows Vista
I'm just afraid Ryzen will do the same as Kaby, and the USB3 board, I already have it, it's a bit different, but with that exact chip. Does your Ryzen with win7 go into the idle 800MHZ mode, or whatever the lowest state? -
Vista on Ryzen - vista might like bluescreens wayy too much
D.Draker replied to Aiek's topic in Windows Vista
With Kaby-lake based board - Vista doesn't BSOD for me, but has the black screen at startup (like Dixel wrote), Windows 7 can't properly utilize CPU C-states, it can't even downclock the CPU to 800MHZ, like it should. So the CPU stays at higher frequencies, runs hotter. -

I tried to switch OFF all USB3.0/3.1 devices and controllers in the BIOS of my Kaby-lake board, it didn't help. I even tried to use only PS/2 mouse/keyboard. -
1.9Mb is so 1990s.

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
Not every member prefers PMs, I can even relate to this. But why won't you ask him in public then? I mean, it's a clearly on-topic, public issue, most importantly: that member shared the patch publicly! Quote from his post. "For you who use browsers that are probably not already patched, I am including the fix that is valid for Chromium-based browsers": https://github.com/webmproject/libwebp/commit/902bc9190331343b2017211debcec8d2ab87e17a https://github.com/webmproject/libwebp/releases/tag/v1.3.2 Link to the original post. https://msfn.org/board/topic/185031-webp-virus-fears-nightmares-suggestions-or-exodus-from-the-internet/?do=findComment&comment=1252144- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
"Telegram Messenger uses WebP... claiming they are displayed 5 times faster compared to the other formats usually used in messaging apps.[666]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebP One more reason to avoid Telegram, in addition to the obvious security concerns.- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
Does the 12 years old Opera even know about webp? It was only announced on 18 November 2011, I guess it didn't got widespread in 2012. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebP- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
D.Draker replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
WebP's custom lossless codec (with that well known bug) not only extremely rare, but most importantly isn't relevant to this discussion, since none of the websites serve it.- 126 replies

There's even more. "My Epic Experience" "Easy Anti Cheat is a virus that makes games unplayable" https://www.reddit.com/r/f***epic/comments/14ffhxs/easy_anti_cheat_is_a_virus_that_makes_games/ But if you still want to run it, try this fix. Right click the game, go to properties, installed filed, browse, look for a EasyAntiCheat.exe, run it from there. https://steamcommunity.com/app/671860/discussions/4/6717729343875250884/

easyanticheat looks like a not nice thing to have on ones PC. Probably some of the later Windows 7 updates simply blocked it, like it was at some point in time with securom, which was declared to have a rootkit and officialy removed from Vista and disabled from running with some of the later Vista/Windows 7 updates. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/8uweej/easy_anti_cheat_malware/?rdt=54594

Windows Media Player 11 : Good Alternatives To Use
D.Draker replied to legacyfan's topic in Windows 11
I think it's way faster to just grab any portable release from github and compare. I'd still blame it on the drivers though. -
Vista on Ryzen - vista might like bluescreens wayy too much
D.Draker replied to Aiek's topic in Windows Vista
Liked your review, thank you! So, basically you're saying Vista will not BSOD with the 5th gen.? I mean, of course if we are to assume I already bought the USB PCI board. -

Maybe off-topic, care to tell how it performs? AMD still makes 3.6Ghz CPU, it looks low when we almost in 2024. -
It's at value of 4. With Nvidia panel the setting value is also 5 or 4. My monitor was very bright at its default values of brightness 50 and contrast 50, too. I have a 24 inch Fujitsu Siemens from 2006. (It a has a Philips panel inside). All German assembly. The current refresh rate I use is 60HZ. Soon to be two decades old, runs like a clock, I may recap it later (change capacitors). It's hard to buy German made caps nowadays.
