  1. Hey @Jaguarek62, since when did you start using Vista on your Dell Latitude e6330 and when did you get the laptop? Just wanted to know
  2. Planning to use it as your main Vista machine once you get it?
  3. The reason why I don't have Ivy Bridge is because here in India, it's quite hard to find old laptops and if you shop on eBay, it literally takes MONTHS to arrive. The Dell latitude e5420 was the only good laptop I could get for myself to use on Vista.
  4. I think the t530/w530 would do better than the t520/w520 because Ivy Bridge is 22nm and performs as well as Sandy bridge equivalents while using less power and also because Intel HD graphics 4000 is better than hd3000. If you hate the chiclet keyboard then you may be able to replace it with a t520 style 7row keyboard.
  5. Are there any Vista users who belong to the "THINKPAD MASTER RACE"?
  6. I am assuming you removed offline files using vlite, is that correct?
  7. Ok, so I decided to post my browser specs and also some other basic software specs of my Vista computer. Hope others also share their software specs so that we can know each other's computer specs better. Some of my softwares installed on my main Vista pc: Browsers: SRWare Iron Chrome 88 Portable, Mozilla Firefox 86 and IE9 (IE useless for everything except viewing XPS files lol) MS Office 2010 Pro Plus x86 VMware Workstation 12.0.0 Avast Free AV + Malwarebytes free 3.5.1 (I have automated malware scans using task scheduler) Windows fully updated till now (March 2021 as of the time of editing)
  8. Also, I think @win32 would work on creating KernelEx for Win7 and 8.1 when programs become incompatible in the future. Let's all hope for the best and support @win32 to the best of our abillity if at all he creates this
  9. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3567 (Intel core i3 6006u) with Win7 Pro that I put in place of Win10 Home. This way my daily driver until about a month ago, when I received a Dell Latitude E5420 which I installed Vista on. I'll answer all the questions in the poll in this post. Do you plan to upgrade to Windows 10 in the next 12 months? Oh no. Why would I want to upgrade (actually downgrade) to an OS that is HORRIBLY bloated, unstable beyond all others, and spies on me and my data? Are you paying for extended support? No, but I am keeping Win7 secured through 0patch and I encourage other Win7 holdouts to use this service that will continue to give Win7 and Server 2008 R2 security patches even beyond 2023 when the paid ESU program for Win7 ends. What is the main reason you haven't upgraded? Instability, unorganised mess of a UI, bloatware and ads, MS intruding into normal computer usage by FORCING users to create and sign in to an MS account, shoving Windows Updates down your throats (I was a Win10 home user who could not disable updates ANYTIME), the list goes on and on.. EDIT: I have moved on to Windows 8.1 on this laptop because I found it somehow faster than Windows 7
  10. Don't know why your VM behaves a little strangely, but on my main Vista laptop (fully updated till Jan. 2020) DWM always uses only about 30-40 megs of ram (out of 8 gigs). Maybe vmware tools causes memory usage to fluctuate.
  11. Anyone using Vista Business purely because you need the aero interface, the handy backup and restore center with full functionality and presentation mode but do not care about Bitlocker (who even uses Bitlocker these days?) and media center and don't mind sacrificing them? I do.
  12. Hey @win32, could you try to get Kingston SSD manager working on Vista with extended kernel (it is a Windows 8+ only application) ? I don't know whether it is purely x86 or x64 as Dependency Walker says that the .exe installer and one .dll are x86 in nature. I think all the other dlls are purely x64 (I'm not very knowledgeable with dll customisation and kernel extensions lol)
  13. Wow, that's what I'd call a completely future-proofed machine (1200p glass panel!)! Your Vista is up to date? Using Chromium with extended kernel is what I recommend instead of browsing on Mypal. You have lots of advantages such as better content viewing on most sites and google meet also works with chromium on Vista. It does not work on mypal/ new moon or similar browsers.
  14. Hello all, I have installed and have been using VMware Player 6.0.4 for virtualisation on my main Vista laptop. I created Windows 98, 2000 and XP VM's but cannot install Vmware tools which @WinClient5270has provided in his Last versions of software for Vista list. When I tried to connect manually to the update server it generates an error. Where do I download the winpre2k.iso and winprevista.iso files manually?
  15. And is Vista your main os with Win7 as an auxiliary os?
  16. Have you installed all drivers (audio, graphics etc)?
  17. Does Vista run correctly without login initialisation bugs?
