  1. Does SuperAntispyware detect anything these days ? In the old days I used it to clean up computers. But later it would only detect cookies. It became a cookie muncher hahah
  2. Thank you I'll check it out when I get home. My problem happens with any software that crashes not just Firefox. I just mentioned it as an example.
  3. Hello everyone, I'm reaching out to computer veterans here. I own a Windows 11 laptop. There are many reasons to hate Windows 11 but sadly I can't use a lower Windows version on this laptop. There is one thing that really hate about Windows 11 and it's the inability to close non responding applications. For example Firefox crashes sometimes and the task manager isn't able to close any non responsive process like old Windows versions could. You click End Process and it does NOTHING! I have to restart the whole computer just to be able to open Firefox again. This didn't happen in older Windows versions. So is there a third party app that is able to really kill an unresponsive process on Windows 11?
  4. Some computers have problems with Wifi via USB. A fellow attorney from the building asked me for help with an old computer. He bought from a dude a Core 2 Duo desktop for $200. For some reason I get no stable Wifi signal on that computer. And it was running Windows 7. On other computers that same adapter works fine. I was using this one: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Nano-Archer-T3U-Wireless/dp/B09KTDXPY3/138-3872363-9753139?pd_rd_w=VCIQk&content-id=amzn1.sym.9cf17164-13e4-4652-96f9-f76b8f33fec0&pf_rd_p=9cf17164-13e4-4652-96f9-f76b8f33fec0&pf_rd_r=TRH0PR84S0KZXC3495GM&pd_rd_wg=0XZEU&pd_rd_r=860d8f4c-1a63-4971-a145-69136f4bb8db&pd_rd_i=B09KTDXPY3&th=1
  5. How is the performance with a Pentium D CPU ? Does Youtube play videos ok ?
  6. Did you slipstream the driver with Nlite ? It should work that way if it's the correct driver.
  7. There is also another thing that could cause hang ups in bios. Disable USB booting if you're not booting from USB. That could cause hang ups in some motherboards because they're checking if what you plugged is bootable.
  8. I've had trouble with Realtek in the past. They can be a PITA. Just use those cheap TP-Links. They work fine on XP and you'll have less headaches. TP-Link Amazon
  9. That's why I was avoiding having everything integrated. The motherboard that had that issue didn't had integrated video. And I used a separate PCI soundcard. But I guess it was time for it to die.
  10. I had this problem with a Gigabyte AM3 motherboard I bought back in 2014. In 2023 it started having those symptoms. It would go into the future. I would fix it and then the next day it was in the future again. Later I would physically see the clock moving faster and XP would behave weirdly like if it was in fast forward. Like even the Loading bootscreen would move very fast. Anyways it lasted for a few months like that until eventually it died and wouldn't boot anymore. I'm just giving the example because it could be a hardware issue. Linux didn't show the problem because it would sync online immediately at boot.
  11. Ahh ok. Now I understood what you did. There are some things you can try. 1- Call them to ask for it. 2- Use a key finder to see if it can find it on the system. Then you can download it again from MS servers. 3- Technically the Factory from the recovery partition should give you the Office back. The mistake was from the Dell Technician. He should've removed Office 365 before installing 2024. It's never a good idea to have different versions at the same time.
  12. I think since about 2013 computers come preloaded with 365 version. And it's not the same as the yearly version. I don't think you can use the same key to activate it. You have to uninstall 365 version and install the yearly version.
  13. I think Windows 11 comes with Office 365 installed. You have to uninstall it then download Office 2024 and install it because they're not the same. I think that's how it goes.
  14. The only problems are the drivers really.
  15. How did you disable Defender ? I tried editing the .ini but it still runs. I'm trying it on Windows 11 and no program can disable it. I was thinking about trying to delete it altogether but I don't know if that would give problems in other areas.
  16. USB 3.0 requires drivers on XP. It is not plug and play.
  17. The disk includes Windows Vista and 7 drivers. Maybe those can work on XP 64 ? My dad had that scanner and it worked ok on Windows 7 64. So maybe test those on XP.
  18. XP only has problems creating the partition in 4K format. But if you create it elsewhere it can read it fine. What I do is I partition and format the hard drive using any Windows 7 setup DVD. Then restart and install XP in that partition. It installs fine and is correctly aligned.
  19. The thing is that most of the people that do recommend disabling it do it with the assumption that it will make their computer magically fast. Like they got a new computer. But I don't think that's the case. In your case with 20 gigs, I think 4GB or 8GB is enough.
  20. Many people don't recommend disabling it. I got 8GB in XP 64 and I just set it to 8GB and leave it be. Many do recommend putting it on another drive though. I think that's the best solution and it won't make your main drive work on many things at the same time. https://lifehacker.com/understanding-the-windows-pagefile-and-why-you-shouldnt-5426041 https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/fdvyi8/do_i_disable_pagefile_in_windows_10_with_64gb_ram/
  21. You can also use the tool called autoruns. There you can easy find the startup entries and services in one place.
  22. I preffer DRM free. No hassle there.
  23. The AC adapter should be easy to find on ebay. My father had one of the newer ones that came with Windows 7. But as soon as the internet ditched Flash for html5 browsing the web with it was slow and it would get really hot. I put an SSD and installed Q4os on it with the skin that looked just like XP. With that Linux distro the sytem was actually very responsive and it was usable. It can be found here in case anyone is interested: https://xpq4.sourceforge.io/ It's not a perfect OS any means. It would work perfect for that laptop but for my desktop it wasn't so great. Just try it and see if it's compatible with your hardware. I think if it worked on my fathers laptop it would work with any netbook since they all had the same specs.
  24. I always heard that there was some sort of emulation going on if you partition a native 4K hard drive in XP. And that it would work but at lower performance if it was not correctly aligned. Obviously if you buy an external HDD today it will come correctly aligned and work fine on XP. But if for whatever reason you need to partition the hard drive again you should do it on Windows 7 and then use the drive on XP normally. At first when 4k native alignment was new there were all sorts of software that would check if the drive was correctly aligned. Even HDD manufacturers provided free software for that. All that was done for using the drive on XP. I remember using Acronis from WD just to check if they were correctly aligned. If you partition a 4k drive on XP it won't be correctly aligned and you would lose performance. I just remember reading about that constantly when 4K alignment was new.
  25. As far as I know even external ones couldn't be read because XP 32 bit couldn't handle partitions bigger than 3TB. Or at least that's what I kept hearing back in 2009 or something.
