@roytam1 I very much have the same question! -
YT may not work on old browsers anymore, starting March 2020
XPerceniol replied to reboot12's topic in Windows XP
Turns out its something in my prefs.js file because when I removed it and ran New Moon 'as is' there is no banner for YT. Thanks for the help guys -

Yes I've tried changing the YT specific UA sting all the way up to Firefox 71 and its still there. The only browser (for XP) that doesn't have this issue is Maxthon and I'm not really keen on using the browser because of privacy concerns. But if New Moon won't work with YT work after March, It will still be my main browser and I'll just use Maxthon for YT only I guess. -

Is there a workaround for New Moon or Basilisk yet? I've tried changing the UA string to various firefox versions and nothing changes. The yellow banner is still present. Thank you in advance :) -

No issues thus far with both New Moon 27 and 28 and this forum. The only thing is dom.storage.enabled needs to set to true to post here. -

My Browser Builds (Part 1)
XPerceniol replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hey guys.. I realize its likely already been said here countless times, and I know I also read where there was a setting to make New Moon - Portable (something like pointing the program to specific appdata directories); but darned if I can find it and I've been looking for hours here. I don't care much about using a portable loader rather I prefer have the directories and the program (New Moon) all on a flash drive and have nothing saved on the computer. Again, I recall seeing something, but I could be wrong also. Sorry guys for asking and thank you in advance to anybody that would re post instructions again. Take care. -
Just did that check and 445 is listening on my system. Appreciate that advice

^Thank you for your suggestion of hardentools - I wasn't aware of it until now
-
So long as they are still in working condition, I'll leave it on my 2 machines with New Moon browser and use them for my games mostly and do only cautious browsing with them. I made the jump to Windows 10, and while there are many things that put me off about the OS, at least its secure and up-to-date. I guess all things must change, and since windows 7 will soon be past it prime, I couldn't see investing time and money in that OS. I think XP was by far the best OS I've even used and enjoyed.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response!

Windows XP security after POS Ready 2009 updates cease
XPerceniol replied to sparty411's topic in Windows XP
I wasn't aware of much in the way of settings other than default configuration for the XP firewall. Maybe restore defaults; untick exceptions; and 'don't allow exceptions'. Are there ways to beef up the existing one, or do you recommend using a 3rd party firewall solution to replace (and disable) the existing one completely? -
Lol.. I just did it Thanks for reminding that was what it was. Somehow it changed along that way of updating from the last time I did it.

Hello everyone.. Am I the only one having trouble again with MSE after the last POSReady updates? I noticed the reg key above went back to its default: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Signature Updates] "FallbackOrder"="MicrosoftUpdateServer|MMPC" ...after I changed it to only MMPC - now using regedit won't let me edit the value anymore. Is this link as posted by member MaterSystem still currently working to manually update it? http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=121721&clcid=0x409&arch=x86&eng=0.0.0.0&avdelta=0.0.0.0&asdelta=0.0.0.0&prod=EDB4FA23-53B8-4AFA-8C5D-99752CCA7094 Thanks in advance

All good here as well, thank you! Even though I hardly use IE8, guess its good to keep it updated since its pretty well woven into the OS.

YAY!! Been dying for an update for 55, I'm still using the last one from last August. Error 404 - I'm sure just a glitch until roytam1 fixes it EDIT: Now I'm getting Error 522 ---> All set now, working great.. Thanks again Roytam1; you rock :-) -

Was having this problem with Norton Power Eraser deleting the exe files for both New Moon and Basilisk (false positivee results) - Thank you for the clarification Roytam1. -

I agree!! So long as this system is working I see no logical reason to just junk it. Just be cautious is all. There still (and will be for a while) are good software alternatives to use with XP. Just stick with New Moon and you can't go wrong. Even if I do get hacked, Acronis True Image will get me back to right where I am as I write this posting. Mainly your IP is all and avoid shady sites and you should be fine. Thanks you roytam1 for your hard work and worry not about haters! -
^TBH... it doesn't really matter, only thing the security center does is give you the yellow shield. I have mine disabled and manually update my system each month, also it gives an annoying warning that I don't use real-time antivirus as I've given up on MSE due to endless problems. No needed unless you like the notifications. Otherwise, can free up some resources. FYI.. the only services I run with are the following: Cryptographic Services (Set to automatic) DHCP Client (Set to Automatic) Network Connections (set to automatic) Plug And Play (Set to Manual) Print Spooler (Set to Manual) Remote Procedure Call (Set to Automatic) Shell Hardware Detection (Set to automatic) Windows Audio (Set To Automatic) Windows Firewall (Set to Automatic) [only because I'm not currently using zone alarm firewall] Windows Management Instrumentation (Set to automatic) Windows Time (Set to manual) I try to keep my system with bare-bones basic to only do what I need it to - Its much faster as added bonus Disclaimer - - Please don't change your setting as I don't want to be responsible if you ruin your configuration - my settings work for me and what I use this computer for only
-
BTW.. got my laptop up and running and thus far, seems just ok to me, but, updating is going to be a problem as I can not just leave it on connected all day as I'm on limited connection and my bandwidth is not dedicated to only me...shared connection. Perhaps I can only update the previous build with security fixes at the very least. Don't like that part at all
