  1. I think Cent Browser is also Chinese, but information about it is extremely scarce.
  2. I guess you meant to write “Friday October 30,” since September 30 was a Wednesday. I didn’t realize that WU was up in October. It sounds like M$ detected suspicious activity and took preventative action. Wonder how long it will be before M$ takes down all updates for XP?
  3. Not by default, and not the final version. I’m really just guessing that it’s a TLS issue, but maybe have a look at these instructions: https://www.ghacks.net/2017/06/15/how-to-enable-tls-1-3-support-in-firefox-and-chrome/
  4. Those browsers are all dinosaurs. The URL gets grade A+ at SSLABS, which tells us that it does not support TLS 1.0 or 1.1. I believe the browsers mentioned in previous replies support TLS 1.3, and wonder if you ever enabled support for the draft of TLS 1.3 in Firefox 52.9?
  5. This tutorial for vanilla Vista might help: https://msfn.org/board/topic/180052-tutorial-how-to-install-vmware-workstation-11-or-12-in-vista/
  6. Sorry, it looks like no one here wants to help you.
  7. Doesn’t Ripcord still work on vanilla Vista? It’s still listed as ONGoing in WinClient5270’s vanilla post under Instant Messaging/Internet Communication Software.
  8. Compatibility with Windows 6.0 was reportedly restored when engine version 1.1.17500.4 was released earlier this month, apparently after complaints from paid users of System Center Endpoint Protection running Server 2008 SP2. However, there has been one recent report of trouble with another mpas-fe file, namely MpSigStub. Any comments?
  9. Running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt might be a good idea, especially if your Vista was restored from an old factory image. Platform Update components would not be applicable if you are not running SP2, or if they were already installed. (If you have installed IE9, then you should have KB971512 and KB2117917.) Regarding “net framework 4.5,” are you referring to KB2901983?
  10. Then I don’t really know why 4.0 wouldn’t install. If you just installed Vista sometime this year, then it might possibly be a certificate issue, since certificates seem to have stopped updating automatically on Vista earlier this year. I do know that you can only have one 4.x version installed, and 4.0 was only a high version from an XP perspective. I also know that Windows Update has been discontinued, but it was still working when I installed Vista and it seemed noteworthy that it gave me 4.5.2, which I later replaced with 4.6 for the sake of one program that I wanted to update on vanilla Vista. If you intend to run Windows 7 software with the aid of the extended kernel as mentioned in your Roblox post, then you may need an even higher 4.x version.
  11. Have you checked in Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program to see if a Microsoft .NET Framework 4.x version is already installed? (.NET 3.5 SP1 is not the problem - you can have that and a 4.x version installed at the same time - and btw there is no SP2 for it.) Windows Update (with appropriate settings) used to offer 4.5.2 to Vista. The last version to officially support Vista was 4.6, but 4.6.1 also worked without any issues. Wonder what reason there could be for wanting 4.0?
  12. I thought of you because you’re a gamer (I’m not) and are familiar with extended kernel (I’m not). Hope I haven’t offended you in some way. Have a nice day.
  13. A solution that did not require extended kernel was posted more than a year ago, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it no longer works: https://msfn.org/board/topic/179888-roblox-is-ending-support-for-windows-vistaxp/?do=findComment&comment=1169828 Perhaps @asdf2345 might take an interest in your question.
  14. Has any MSFN member actually used this to update a new installation of XP? (That’s obviously all that Windows Update is really needed for now.) Might be related to the fact that a new installation of XP would have IE6 rather than IE8. That’s probably why the instructions quoted by max-h on the previous page said to “Enable Use TLS 1.0 in IE6 -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Security.”
  15. If you want YouTube’s classic layout (which btw might cease to exist at any time) in NM27, have you tried a user agent override with “googlebot” as discussed in https://msfn.org/board/topic/181184-yt-may-not-work-on-old-browsers-anymore-starting-march-2020/?do=findComment&comment=1183860? It seems like someone mentioned in this thread that the same method worked for NM27 - probably within the last 45 pages, but I don’t feel like searching for that today. Edit: I missed the part about such SSUAOs stopped working weeks ago.
  16. This is a really big story, for example https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/20/technology/google-antitrust.html. Of course the European Union has already taken action against Google, but nothing comparable has happened in the United States since the antitrust suit against Microsoft more than 20 years ago. Granted, the timing might be seen as political; but let’s try to avoid political commentary here. Yesterday’s articles seem to make no mention of Google’s browser dominance, but earlier articles have suggested that Chrome might be a target, for example https://www.techspot.com/news/87071-doj-targets-chrome-over-probable-google-antitrust-violations.html.
  17. You figured correctly IMO. There was already some discussion on October 9: https://msfn.org/board/topic/180462-my-browser-builds-part-2/?do=findComment&comment=1188777 I’m sure that 32-bit Basilisk 52 will continue to be a topic of interest here.
  18. Version number sounds correct, but is there still an official download link? (I don’t think there is, but wouldn’t mind being proven wrong.) I know what you mean about unreliable system requirements at Comodo’s website, but there was an announcement last year.
  19. Thanks for answering. That confirms what Dylan Cruz said earlier about R2.
  20. Sounds good! Was SP1 the only update you manually installed? Were you then automatically given the SHA-2 updates, for example KB4474419?
  21. Thanks for that! I see you were interested in the thread about a PCSX2 backport for XP. We have a short list of Console Emulators in the original post of this thread that shows PCSX2 support for vanilla Vista as ONGoing. I wonder if that is still true of v1.6.0 considering minimum system requirements now call for Windows 7 or newer? (If not, then either the backport for XP or extended kernel for Vista may be needed now.) Looks like the BIOS file from a PS2 console is needed. I’m not a gamer and don’t have a PS2, and in any case my old Vista hardware seems to be on its last legs these days.
  22. Slightly OT, but I wonder if Yandex 17 with (once) experimental JavaScript features enabled might still be useful for GitHub users running XP or vanilla Vista?
  23. No, PicoTorrent is not yet listed in the original post under BitTorrent/P2P Clients. In the same category, eMule should still have ONG support, since October 2020 v0.60a reportedly works on XP. It looks like 64-bit builds are a new feature for eMule, so someone running Vista x64 may want to try it.
  24. Welcome to MSFN. Discord does not support Vista, but you might still be able to use the web version with certain browsers and user agents as discussed in the old thread web version of discord doesn’t work. If you prefer Chromium-based browsers, Discord is more likely to work well with Yandex 17 than with Chrome 49. I don’t use it myself though. Edit: Assuming vanilla Vista of course.
