My Browser Builds (Part 5)

And to think I've been disabling SVG for decades now. Have I missed much, I wonder. -

Yeah, if I were to start afresh (I won't), these counters do nothing (I can see) on performance. Maybe the opposite. I would then disable and would re-enable some required for my apps, including office for find and replace, excel is some complex formulas, etc, as I find issues. But I'm on non-vanilla XP, and closing some of those counters generates issues.
-
There are a number of ways in which those counters are entwined with the work of core apps of an all including OS (office suite, internet explorer and media player, games, you name it). Also on checking registry tweaks, booting arrangements, overclocking and such. So I concur with @jaclaz in not closing them all. I will instead go counter by counter and see what affects the behavior of a still effective OS, for desktop, (but increasingly no for internet, expert office suite, and python reliant applications). The surplus fun some of us get just for the heck of it. Hell! I own it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRfoIyx8KfU

Hi there. I still get the same error than when extracting the setup previously provided in this thread: "You need to install AOMEI Partition Assistant on the computer to run.If you want to run the program without installation, it is recommended to create a Portable Version, then you can run the Portable AOMEI Partition Assistant on other computers without installation." Short of someone being able to create a portable version, I wonder if the issue is in AmAnacfg.ini, with contents that (in my system) are not being created on install (probably due to the program stopping after the above error).. usercfg=C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\AomeiBR\usercfg.ini Cache=C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\AOMEIPA\PA_OF.dat Address=https://a.aomeisoftware.com/api/v1/soft/collect Thanks!

"But ... then, why?" Wow. Funny how you learn new stuff all the time. 10 years ago I would have disabled them all and see what happened. But not without before researching here or elsewhere: what are the likely consequences of doing so? I never look at performance counters, and never have had an error saying "you're way down in performance in X", probably due to my stripping XP of useless tricks, functions and spyware/attack surface. So, I wonder and seek illustration on what do I lose by disabling those counters, anyway. I imagine I'll loose the performance tab info in the app "system explorer"? some functionality in "process lasso" and other process monitor tools? Any ideas? Thanks.

Have upd open, relax all common sense restrictions, and your momma will be able to hack you. A ridiculous video (couldn't stand more than 5 seconds of it, to be true, so maybe there is something to it I haven.t found in over 20 years of XP use). I tremble at the thought.
-
Yeah. But your last official release is good on my set up. One issue, though: linkedin now spits a lot of "undefined" tags where the text of posts used to stand. Cheers!
-
This one actually makes a full crash in my system, reboot and all.

Binaries are back, source issue is clarified: IDA-RE's dll is also closed source.
-
@66cats, save your breath. Apply the ignore settings in the forum. They are not perfect but, well, es lo que hay, we say in Argentina.
-
The ida-re binary (downloaded this morning from github) for the dll now only offered in source is attached - but run at your own risk. MODERATORS: please advice-delete as you see fit -like you always do EDIT: As per @NotHereToPlayGames, the source is a mere readme, so I deleted the binary in the attachment. If you are using it, do it in a VM.
-
I don't follow your logic. We are talking about IDA-RE dll. It offers source (therefore, provided you build it, open source), but the binary has dissappeared from the server. As per supermium, for what I have heard (I have not looked for source) it may only offer that dll in binary from, no source. So that particular dll, if the hearsay before is true, would probably be (or is) closed source.
-
I welcome the alternatives and the open source (initial) input of this new developer, though. Let's see what transpires.
-
Hi there. I'm sticking to supermium. I've been trying this IDA-RE thing, but I'm unsure I will make it my default. Reasons: (1) I know who @win32 is, and even though his particular dll is (I understand) closed source, I kind of trust him. Hopefully he'll revise this policy. (2) This new dll seems to be an improvement (can't really judge, though), but generates debug errors ([0509/163849.000:ERROR:registration_protocol_win.cc(136)] TransactNamedPipe: The pipe has been ended. (0x6D)), without apparent effect on performance, but I don't have the knowledge to understand why. (3) Today in the morning I could download the binary, while as of now the binary is gone -what is left is only the source-. Just sayin.

As per https://superuser.com/questions/1738597/how-to-disable-all-chromium-animations, also adding the switch below may help. Will test. Thanks! --animation-duration-scale=0
-
I will try that, thanks.

That's process hacker. Yup. In (a)process lasso the equivalent is "priority class"/ "always". In (b) process tammer is a bit different, where you can create a explicit rule "force low" which activates when a user defined Cpu User Trigger High is set. I think a combination of (a) and (b) work well, which is particularly noticeable in supermium, less so in mypal or basilisk, in my set up.

My Browser Builds (Part 5)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Sorry. I meant to put that comment in the supermium thread. -
Yup. Disabling the ungoogled supermium mode in flags AND deleting the --ungoogled-supermium switch makes GM and YT work again. In the previous version, they worked even with ungoogled supermium mode in flags.
-
GM and YT work in vanilla profile, albeit with all the adds and scripts I don't like. In my usual profile (with tweaks, switches and flags with which they used to work) they don't work anymore (with ungoogled switches or not). In GM, the problem is non-functioning buttons next and such, which prevents login. In YT, empty portal, no search bar. The compact-ui switch now cuts tabs heigh in half, but without adjuting fonts, so the titles are also (vertically) cut in half. With my tweaked settings, I managed to get rid of google.com altogether from the list of search engines. Still, I can only use bing or yahoo. I would like to know how to add and make default searches of my choice. On the bright side, chrome processes close on exiting supermium. PS: a previous version of this post just dissappeared.

Wrong thread -
Using BOTH process tamer 2.14 (which comes in the portable zip of the app), together with process lasso (set supermium "always" priority class to below normal) works in my set up to tame processor usage peaks, making supermium quite stable, actually (compared to using either app separately or, needless to say, none of them).
