KernelEx 2022 (Kex22) Test Versions (4.22.26.2)
FantasyAcquiesce replied to jumper's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
After installing version 17, uninstalling then downgrading to 16, completely uninstalling and reinstalling the initial version, all my web browsers still cannot create their .db file...I've tried changing compatibility settings as well... Is there a fix for this or will I be required to reinstall Windows ME? -
Windows 9x Driverpacks 2018 Update
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Excuse me, are you aware if changing the INF name would effect its ability to find the proper .sys file? Currently have a name conflict with two completely different drivers (Realtek RTL8019 and Genius LAN GE2000III SE ISA PnP Ethernet). While I'm at it, if any user can guide me in forcing a system resource change, that would be perfect! -
Windows 9x Driverpacks 2018 Update
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
This sounds like a great idea, but I gotta confirm a couple things: Will drivers meant for other languages be ignored in an English installation or break it? Will the names conflict? If so, is it a big deal if I change the file names? Will the drivers be unable to find the proper .sys file if I do? If one of the above are true, then I must make the driverpack its own to prevent conflicts within the English (default) driverpack -
Windows 9x Driverpacks 2018 Update
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Have you tested these drivers on an English installation of Windows 9x? I just need to ensure the drivers will work regardless of potential language differences. For anyone on MSFN, let me know if leaving the .sys in a separate folder while leaving the setup file in the root of the folder is sufficient or not. I'm assuming Soporific downloaded the driver files then just did as I spoke. -
As a Windows 9x-enthusiast, I still find a bunch of hardware unavailable in the driverpacks listed here. After three years of fighting to get my laptop to run Windows 9x, I hope to contribute to making driver installation less difficult. I am currently focusing on network drivers for the 9x systems and hope to do the following for now: Update Network Driverpack Currently adding major brands; finished with Realtek for now Make a pack for printer and fax drivers Modem driverpack Update the existing driverpacks Add newer chipset drivers such as 845 and newer Add PROBLEMCHYLD's custom Dell Wireless 1450 driver to network Add drivers from Vogons.org Hopeful future plans: Turn the program into something similar to driverpack solution Make a driverpack devoted to Windows 95 Download Links Chipset (Coming Soon!) Video (Coming Soon!) Audio (Coming Soon!) Networking (Change Log) Modem (Coming Soon!) Printer and Fax (Coming Soon!) Instructions: Extract Go to Menu>Control Panel>System>Device Manager Click desired hardware which requires a driver Direct to folder location If a message pops up about driver file not available, go to the folder with the exact name required (exception being RTL8019 and ge2000iii cards which had to be renamed to avoid conflict!) To contribute to this project, please list the brand, hardware (ID too is preferred), and send a link to the driver Feel free to inform me of any mistakes! I'm a newbie at drivers!

Searching for a WPA2-Capable Card
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I got a belkin cardbus which is supposed to work on 9x, but I'm still having the same problem...the model is a F5D7010 with 802.11g. My cardbus' drivers are installed and my Dell Latitude D600 makes a beeping sound whenever I insert my cardbus. However, the belkin utilities I've used refuse to see the cardbus after prompting to be inserted. I tried a manual installation with no luck. I'm currently attempting to use newer driver versions as well. https://www.belkin.com/us/support-article?articleNum=5005 While I'm at it, does anyone know of good driver packs? For example, I found one which contained "500,000" apparently, it fixed my Windows ME's chipset problems! If anyone is aware of these, please tell me of their names! The problem is they tend to be bundled on warez sites despite the fact they contain NO WARES... EDIT: Turns out my Dell Latitude D600's PCMCIA slot is BROKEN like most units...I have to look for a Mini PCI Wireless Card... The Dell Wireless Pro 2100 3A and 3B models don't have WPA2, 2200 is not 9x-compatible...so I have to look for other cards! Has anyone tried Realtek RTL8180L? -

Currently comparing the INF file for the Realtek driver with PROBLEMCHYLD's modified broadcom and the T42...I gotta say, I'm quite overwhelmed. What exactly needs to be modified?...the driver (top) you linked me to only has ndis5 when I searched the file. Do I just change ndis5 to ndis3? EDIT: Changed ndis5 to ndis3...it installed! But now there's another issue...The NDIS.VXD and NTKERN.VXD device loaders can't load the driver (Code 2)... -
I purchased a wireless usb wifi adapter (Realtek RTL8188CU USB Adapter) off Ebay and I'm hoping to get it working on Windows ME! Kinda struggling at the moment to find a driver...even if the manufactuer lacks them, similar WIFI adapter drivers should work, right? Despite the driver being Realtek, it looks more like this The hardware IDs are: USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8176&REV_0200 USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8176 If it helps at all, the compatible id's are: USB\Class_FF&SubClass_FF&Prot_FF USB\Class_FF&SubClass_FF USB\Class_FF I also tried soporific's driverpack with no success...

I've been searching the internet for helping myself to learn C++ and understand the Windows 9x architecture. I'm hoping to contribute one day to this wonderful operating system It would be a dream come true to compile drivers for newer systems, fix Windows 9x altogether, modernize it, and backport modern software! I need to start from the beginning: are there any good books you would suggest to learn Windows 98 coding and architecture? Thanks!

Transfer Files from an android phone?
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x/ME

Summer has come and I'm trying to make blackberry seed oil. I just need to obtain a press and I can do so. However, I have one question: how can I properly sanitize a bottle and the oil as well so I can store it for a while?
-
Windows ME has been quite problematic with modern technology...ever since android got rid of the ability for the computer to read the device as USB storage, direct file transfers are no longer possible! Does anyone know of a MTP driver for Windows 9x? Or better yet, a way to enable usb storage mode on android? If all fails, a good FTP would work. If an indirect file transfer is all that can be done, I'm content.

Title pretty much says it all. I'm hoping to make installing certain patches onto 9x less manual. While not Windows 9x related, I would also love to create an installer for Diyba's ram patch as well.

Windows 9x CDs not providing the proper files
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Yes, my intention was to install Winsock 2 so I could test the custom Opera 10.63 program by ToastyTech. Unfortunately, Microsoft just loves to leave legacy users behind...thank you so much for the advice! I will test it once I can obtain a proper Windows 95-compatible computer or virtualization. VMWare just loves to freeze, crash, and create problems on Windows 10... Have you tried copying files with a physical disk during the Windows 95 installation? I tried copying the Windows 95 CD's files onto a directory I created, but as written earlier only two files would even transfer. Watching a bunch of youtube, it's plain too obvious most videos copying the files are of modified, downloaded iso's (though the creators are likely unaware a physical disk may not automatically give you a format screen). Do physical CDs have some sort of copy protection? It's because of this problem I prefer Windows ME out of the three...it's just more user-friendly and works a lot better with modern hardware than 98... -
Microsoft's artificial blocks are pretty annoying, luckily renaming a couple files allows the user to install and execute the program. Now an annoying error message tells me "The Virtual Machine Monitor Driver required by Virtual PC is missing". Anyone got a solution to this? If not, are there any software recommendations for virtualizing Windows 9x? VMWare likes to make machines "busy" and undeletable, VirtualBox cannot properly emulate Windows 9x and allow internet.

I've googled this issue and there seems to be no fix to this common problem! During initial and driver installations, Windows prompts me to insert the disk so the proper dll's, exe's, etc. can be obtained, but stupidly Windows refuses to work with me. I tried copying the CD files onto a created directory before installation, but only two files were copied over. Is it my Windows disk version causing this? I'm using a Windows 95 Plus CD (Windows 95b) to install the TCP/IP protocol and as usual, it continues refusing to cooperate.

KernelEx 2022 (Kex22) Test Versions (4.22.26.2)
FantasyAcquiesce replied to jumper's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Assuming these all have their own separate updates which possibly override and leave older files behind, could you compile this file into an exe? It compiles all updates from 9 to 17. https://uploadfiles.io/8mfrc -
Backporting newer browsers to Win9X with KernelEx

I'm pretty sure the unofficial updates don't function unless you specifically drag an application to the compatibility layer application. -

Works on W2K Now, time to see if I can recreate Siria's steps to making youtube work on Windows 98SE/ME Ik this is off topic, but has anyone successfully got WMP 10 on 98SE or ME? I tried it and still have version 9 on about. -
Backporting newer browsers to Win9X with KernelEx

I can now confirm K-Meleon 74 (2.2 Goanna) works on Windows ME with the KernelEx extensions available ...but the text can end up looking funny on certain pages. Luckily, text don't always look like this on all pages. In order to do this, DOS must be enabled on Windows ME before installing the KernelEx updates. This is the menu you will have, if you install DOSFix 2 Instructions all right here https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2018/06/dos-for-windows-me.html -

Backporting newer browsers to Win9X with KernelEx
FantasyAcquiesce replied to roytam1's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Unless any of us besides roytam1 know how to code browsers or update KernelEx like jumper, I doubt we could get Firefox 21 working. Keep in mind roytam1 backported Firefox 3.6.28 (with a couple things that aren't working) to Windows NT 4.0 and (unsuccessfully) NT 3.51. It would probably be much more difficult with 9x, since the system doesn't function the same as NT. Retrozilla 2.1 is based off Firefox 2.0.0.2, I believe. There is also Opera 10.63 available on Win95, Firefox 2.0.0.22pre, and Seamonkey 1.1.20pre. -
Backporting newer browsers to Win9X with KernelEx

Has anyone tried changing the user agent string to a mobile phone? Youtube does not work using the W2K-friendly version of K-Meleon. I've tested K-Meleon on both a W2K and 98SE installation to find W2K loads pages fine, but youtube videos don't play despite loading. On Windows 98SE, youtube's video playback is blank and crashes the browser unless javascript is disabled. -
I already have the Kernel32, I need a IE6 Security Update because the thing won't let me install the Kernel32 otherwise...
