  1. During my little journey in failing to find a version of Odyssey Client older than 3.0, I still found some great finds. WLAN Expansion 2.0 Advanced Wifi Manager https://wi-py-wireless-network-management.soft112.com/ ManageEngine WiFi Manager 5.6 Easy WiFi Radar 1.0.2 (Compatible with even WinNT 3.x and 98, 95 support unspecified...1.0.5 version here) LucidLink WiFi Client 2.2 (WPA2 for Windows 2000) Once I get enough free time, I'll try testing these to see if any of them are 9x-compatible, most of them claim to hold Windows 2000-compatibility Now Windows 2000 users are no longer restricted to Boingo Wireless for WPA2 ^o^ Would it honestly be difficult to program our own wireless network manager for Windows 9x? Last year, I recall a user that did do the task, but it did not detect cards correctly. He pretty much disappeared afterward. The software was also lost in the crash.
  2. Alright, this is what I found. I believe it's just a trial. I did not get to even test it yet, so feel free to put in on your Windows 95 Virtual Machine. Keep in mind this version does not yet support WPA2. https://anonfile.com/e8I4c2v7b4/Odyssey_CLIENT_3_zip
  3. I'll be honest. I do have a version 3.0 of Odyssey Client, but I'm not sure if sharing it would be legal... Its document says 98 is the minimal requirement, nvm...boingo wireless never had a 95-compatible version according to the archive. Also, Buffalo Manager has versions down to 1.0 that could work (I'm not sure which year they were created though).
  4. It's time MSFN users experience their own live chats when they need it. PM's and forum replies just aren't always efficient enough! I aim to create a discord replica of MSFN right here! https://discord.gg/ezvJmgH
  5. A bit late, but has anyone managed to test this browser on vanilla w2k?
  6. I am sure the porting is possible. It's not an easy job! Examples of browsers that successfully ported a newer version of Chrome back to XP are Advanced Chrome (54), Chedot (51?; can't remember), Citro (52?), and Slimjet (50) Advanced Chrome is also open source
  7. I've been experimenting a bit using Paint.NET. It's been pretty fun, I hope to one day become capable of creating fun remixes of the logo. https://imgur.com/a/cZIrOaa https://imgur.com/a/1fQ7CG5
  8. It seems KernelEx may have broken something in my Windows 98SE installation. The folders will not display anything despite setting them to view everything. I had to install total commander to get around this problem. EDIT: NVM I just had to set the view to icons xD K-Meleon does work with the new updates and no longer gives the .db file error (tested on vmware).
  9. Is there a version that doesn't cost money? Finding a link to it alone seems difficult...
  10. This is a Windows 9x topic, I use XDM for XP and later.
  11. Title pretty much says it all, as usual. I am seeking a program similar to Star Downloader or IDM, except the program is completely free, has good browser compatibility, and preferably works on even Windows 95 systems. Older computers need a little boost to keep up with modern file sizes these days...
  12. I finally got time to test this newer version of KernelEx...hmmm, something's not right. I originally installed KernelEx 4.5.2 + v18 updates (I made sure to mix the v18 updates with a folder of updates up to v17). Once Windows rebooted, it gave me an error message that the drivers cannot be found. KernelEx gives me the newer options, but only resets after being applied... I am also installing this on Windows ME
  13. Title says it all. I am looking for software so I can read epub books on my ancient Dell Latitude D600 w/ Windows ME. I've heard of Balabolka, but there is no information available of the last version to officially work on Windows 9x (I'm also unsure if the program included epub support as well before support was ended)
  14. Does anybody know some good older devices still supported by modern websites? I'm hoping to find a decent useragent string to spoof my browser with. Web pages will likely render better under the impression the device is a low-end android phone.
  15. After installing version 17, uninstalling then downgrading to 16, completely uninstalling and reinstalling the initial version, all my web browsers still cannot create their .db file...I've tried changing compatibility settings as well... Is there a fix for this or will I be required to reinstall Windows ME?
  16. Excuse me, are you aware if changing the INF name would effect its ability to find the proper .sys file? Currently have a name conflict with two completely different drivers (Realtek RTL8019 and Genius LAN GE2000III SE ISA PnP Ethernet). While I'm at it, if any user can guide me in forcing a system resource change, that would be perfect!
  17. This sounds like a great idea, but I gotta confirm a couple things: Will drivers meant for other languages be ignored in an English installation or break it? Will the names conflict? If so, is it a big deal if I change the file names? Will the drivers be unable to find the proper .sys file if I do? If one of the above are true, then I must make the driverpack its own to prevent conflicts within the English (default) driverpack
  18. Have you tested these drivers on an English installation of Windows 9x? I just need to ensure the drivers will work regardless of potential language differences. For anyone on MSFN, let me know if leaving the .sys in a separate folder while leaving the setup file in the root of the folder is sufficient or not. I'm assuming Soporific downloaded the driver files then just did as I spoke.
  19. As a Windows 9x-enthusiast, I still find a bunch of hardware unavailable in the driverpacks listed here. After three years of fighting to get my laptop to run Windows 9x, I hope to contribute to making driver installation less difficult. I am currently focusing on network drivers for the 9x systems and hope to do the following for now: Update Network Driverpack Currently adding major brands; finished with Realtek for now Make a pack for printer and fax drivers Modem driverpack Update the existing driverpacks Add newer chipset drivers such as 845 and newer Add PROBLEMCHYLD's custom Dell Wireless 1450 driver to network Add drivers from Vogons.org Hopeful future plans: Turn the program into something similar to driverpack solution Make a driverpack devoted to Windows 95 Download Links Chipset (Coming Soon!) Video (Coming Soon!) Audio (Coming Soon!) Networking (Change Log) Modem (Coming Soon!) Printer and Fax (Coming Soon!) Instructions: Extract Go to Menu>Control Panel>System>Device Manager Click desired hardware which requires a driver Direct to folder location If a message pops up about driver file not available, go to the folder with the exact name required (exception being RTL8019 and ge2000iii cards which had to be renamed to avoid conflict!) To contribute to this project, please list the brand, hardware (ID too is preferred), and send a link to the driver Feel free to inform me of any mistakes! I'm a newbie at drivers!
  20. I got a belkin cardbus which is supposed to work on 9x, but I'm still having the same problem...the model is a F5D7010 with 802.11g. My cardbus' drivers are installed and my Dell Latitude D600 makes a beeping sound whenever I insert my cardbus. However, the belkin utilities I've used refuse to see the cardbus after prompting to be inserted. I tried a manual installation with no luck. I'm currently attempting to use newer driver versions as well. https://www.belkin.com/us/support-article?articleNum=5005 While I'm at it, does anyone know of good driver packs? For example, I found one which contained "500,000" apparently, it fixed my Windows ME's chipset problems! If anyone is aware of these, please tell me of their names! The problem is they tend to be bundled on warez sites despite the fact they contain NO WARES... EDIT: Turns out my Dell Latitude D600's PCMCIA slot is BROKEN like most units...I have to look for a Mini PCI Wireless Card... The Dell Wireless Pro 2100 3A and 3B models don't have WPA2, 2200 is not 9x-compatible...so I have to look for other cards! Has anyone tried Realtek RTL8180L?
  21. I previously tried these with no luck. Thanks anyway.
  22. Currently comparing the INF file for the Realtek driver with PROBLEMCHYLD's modified broadcom and the T42...I gotta say, I'm quite overwhelmed. What exactly needs to be modified?...the driver (top) you linked me to only has ndis5 when I searched the file. Do I just change ndis5 to ndis3? EDIT: Changed ndis5 to ndis3...it installed! But now there's another issue...The NDIS.VXD and NTKERN.VXD device loaders can't load the driver (Code 2)...
  23. I purchased a wireless usb wifi adapter (Realtek RTL8188CU USB Adapter) off Ebay and I'm hoping to get it working on Windows ME! Kinda struggling at the moment to find a driver...even if the manufactuer lacks them, similar WIFI adapter drivers should work, right? Despite the driver being Realtek, it looks more like this The hardware IDs are: USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8176&REV_0200 USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8176 If it helps at all, the compatible id's are: USB\Class_FF&SubClass_FF&Prot_FF USB\Class_FF&SubClass_FF USB\Class_FF I also tried soporific's driverpack with no success...
  24. I've been searching the internet for helping myself to learn C++ and understand the Windows 9x architecture. I'm hoping to contribute one day to this wonderful operating system It would be a dream come true to compile drivers for newer systems, fix Windows 9x altogether, modernize it, and backport modern software! I need to start from the beginning: are there any good books you would suggest to learn Windows 98 coding and architecture? Thanks!
